This might be the right kind of role for Delevigne. I think she might get to be a bit goofier, like when she went shimmy-shimmy bugnuts as Enchantress but this time it fits within the frame of the story.

It certainly looks lush. None of the CG characters had any lines, though. They must still be bashing out the ADR.

As to whether this borrows from Lucas or the other way around, here's the artist's take on that (two decades into Valerian's run):

EW Poster

Delevigne looks a bit like Rebecca Ferguson in that poster.

That poster isn't gonna sell anyone on this who wasn't already sold on it.

V for Valerian

From the director of LEELOO DALLAS MULTIPASS!
I liked Jupiter Ascending and look forward to Ghost in the Shell so...there's really no way I'm not gonna check this out..
I was sold on it after the first trailer hit.
I like the way Delevingne shimmy-shimmies so I'll be seeing this.

The tone of the trailer is at odds with the footage it actually contains. Much too serious.

Still, looks pretty. I can't wait.

I like the score Besson is using here.

It certainly looks visually interesting. I have never heard of the comics. Is the plot as generic as it seems?

Looks wild.

I'm in.

Now I want proper Flash Gordon, Dan Dare and Buck Rogers updates, together with a 10 film/10 season Banks' Culture film/HBO series, pleaseandthankyou.

Wow.  That was certainly the visual feast (like the comics).  Have to say I was a bit disappointed in the Valerian comics I got out of the library.  Admittedly they were later ones, and the first ones are the ones highly regarded, but I'll be seeing this on the biggest screen I can, regardless.

ooooh working with Oldman is like driving a Ferrari for the first time!
Valerian sounds like the name give to a post-menopause medication.

So I'll be seeing this.

Trailer looked sugar coated as hell, though "THE LEGENDARY DIRECTOR OF LUCY" was a bit too much.

Avatar Ascending

Seriously

But yeah, looks neato..

Hm, interesting.  I admit I thought this was some obscure teen-lit adaptation post Hunger Games.  INstead it appears it's (based on) one of the ur-space adventures comics.  Something that joins Flash Gordon to Star Wars.

Is that concept of the Alpha place from the comics?  Looking at the trailer I'm seeing a lot of Mass Effect going on there.  I guess it wouldn't be surprising if it too was heavily inspired by the comics.

So what's it like driving Gary Oldman for the first time?

New Poster

The creature on the bottom looks like Gary Oldman's office pet in Fifth Element.

Will Bruce Willis cameo as Korben Dallas in the film? The main poster has a bar sign in the background that says "ORBEN'S" with an alien obscuring what could be a K.

Uh oh K-tron. Get ready for people to call him a K2S0 ripoff. Especially if the characters call him K.

Maybe Korben died, and his spirit was transferred to that alien via the Force.

that cap of Willis's face looks like he's about to cry for an Oscar clip

K-Tron looks cool as hell.

This probably gonna be Jupiter Ascending all over again. I'm sure I'll dig this..
It can have Willis, not have Willis-- just as long as human migraine Chris Tucker doesn't show up. Because then I will set fire to the theater.

Does it remind you of the Destroyer from the first Thor movie? Because it reminds me of the Destroyer from the first Thor movie.

Hey wasn't there a The Fifth Element creature that looked like this?

This movie will fail.

Yes they really look similar. I think I'm gonna enjoy this a lot. I also think Freeman's right and it'll be on DVD by about the time I walk out of the theater..

It's the vertical central face thing, right? And the flat-ish top of the head thing.

This will tank at the US box office but everyone will be mortified when it somehow still ends up making 500m+ WW.

Probably. As a fan of Luc Besson i hope this does well.

I hope I can get past the two leads enough to enjoy the explosion of imagination and big budget crazy science fiction wonder we don't get enough of.

Just pretend they're Leonardo DiCaprio and Rebecca Ferguson..

That doesn't make it much better honestly.

No it doesn't. That was just who they most resembled to me...I think I at least nailed that part. But so could anyone else with eyes..
Wow, the trailer for this was the highlight of my Fast 8 viewing, it looks brilliantly insanely imaginative, but I've no idea what it's about.
Besson needs to cast Delevigne in an absurdly expensive new take on BARBARELLA.
A gust of wind could literally carry her off never to be seen again.

I think K-Tron's head is a little more Robocop 2:
