THE NICE GUYS (2016) - Discussion Thread - Page 7

We rewatched this the day (it's on HBO now) and it played much, much better the second time around.  This might be another one of those movies that plays better on the small screen vs the big screen...whatever, it's a gas.

It's a little bit better every time I see it. The Nixon bit kills me every time.

That said, whoever said it felt like a pilot for a TV show was right. Especially when seeing it on HBO. And damnit, it's a show I would watch the hell out of.

This movie is the most Shane Blackish movie ever.

Yep and to me that's a great thing. Looking forward to his Predator film.

This and Inherent Vice, am I right bro?

This is on right now and i enjoying every minute of it.

Appreciate it better this time and picked up a few details that i missed the first time around.

Why didn't more people come out to support this? I would've loved more Jackson & Healey adventures.

I would have liked to see a sequel set in the 80s. I watch this every time it's on HBO, and I own the bluray.

In my world Crowe and Gosling reunite every couple of years to take us through the 80s and 90s with Healey, showing the long slow decay of the social fabric in the post-Watergate and Reagan eras, each film a different example of how corporations are out to fuck the little guy. The second film would be set around 1980 and focus on the Reagan presidential campaign.

I'll say this, though - the novelization for this is fantastic, and can stand on its own as a tight little crime thriller. I'd settle for Hard Case Crime working out a deal where the characters continue in print.

I'm pretty sure Black is a Republican, or at least a "Hollywood Conservative".

I don't see what that has to do with the themes of THE NICE GUYS, which is very clearly a condemnation of large corporations and big business.

And I think most moderate to mainstream republicans and/or Hollywood conservatives can point towards the Reagan and Clinton years as a turning point in American culture.

So, this is a little weird.

This has to be about the daughter as a grown-up PI, right? Because otherwise as described this has absolutely nothing to do with the film.

If Terriers couldn't make it on FX, I don't see this making it on FOX if it's actually going to be quality.  If it's shit, I'm sure that it'll be huge.

"Yeah, I know."
