ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Casting Draft

From the guy who won the Fish Called Wanda casting draft comes a chance to make your own modern vision of John Carpenter's seminal 1981 post-apocalyptic classic. Who will be the new Snake Plissken? Will your President still have a British accent?

We'll be doing five days, two picks a day for the first four, one for the final day.

Primary:

Plissken

Hauk

Cabbie

The President

The Duke

Brain

Maggie

Secondary (Your Choice): Rehme, Romero, Chock Full O' Nuts Girl, Secretary of State, etc.

Directors are non-consequential, but you can absolutely present them at the end.

The plan is to get the ball rolling Monday, August 1. Please sign up below.

What if you're a little late? No more Hartford Summit... and no more Snake Plissken!

Gotta get Dickson in on this.

Yeah, gotta bring him in.

Ah hell, I was gonna pass on this because Escape just isn't the touchstone for me it is for some of you and so the idea of recasting it -- especially as in depth as we seem to be going -- didn't hold a lot of appeal for me.  But since you've all been asking so nicely, I'll come in and muck things up.

Just rewatched it for the first time in about a decade. What a wonderfully efficient and yet weird movie it is.

I don't think it would've been complete without you, Dickson. I think you've been in every draft I've done that I'm aware of.

And a testament to the greatness of Carpenter that even a slightly lesser director would have it as his best film, whereas for me, Escape is his fifth best film and still iconic and cynical. His first stab at politics and satire, and remarkable that it works so well as that since it's deriding Watergate-era America as the Reagan administration came in.

Plus, it's basically his middle finger at Star Wars.

Dickson's here?  I heard you were dead!

Too late to get in on this?

HypnoToad is another one of the essentials.  Gotta have him in there if possible.

As to this draft...I'm either gonna win this thing or crash and burn.  I don't see any middle ground.

Oh, I got signed up for this? But Prince is dead. Now who'll be my Duke of NY?
That reminds me, thanks to this year we'll never get the Ming the Merciless musical starring either David Bowie or Prince.
At least I can still cast Anton Yelchin as Snake... Oh, wait.

A quick reminder that it's two characters a day. Snake, Hauk, Cabbie, President, Duke, Brain, and Maggie, plus two secondary characters of your choice (Rehme, Romero, Chock Full O' Nuts Girl, Secretary of State, etc.) with the remainders as bonus, non-consequential picks.

Times will be up soon.

Romero.

When we've done two characters a day before, we had two separate times for each pick. I like it a lot better that away, makes things move faster and the first ones to go don't steal all the good picks.

Worth considering among us.

Meanwhile, you guys are killing it in the list thread. Tons of funny stuff going.

I honestly enjoy that movie.

Do we have to pay some sort of licensing fee to Carpenter for this draft? I'd rather do it now than down the road with added legal fees.
