ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK - Casting Draft - Sign-Up/Discussion - Page 6

I was debating between Keanu and Chris Evans but ended up going with the younger actor. Kudos to Atom.
I thought of a Maggie. No one steal my Maggie.

I was originally going with a very different Snake, but Keanu came to me in a flash last night. Had to follow my gut.

I'm outta rep already.  I owe a bunch of you some points, especially Dickson.  I'm not sure who would make for a better female Snake than Katee.

Half of the main Hateful Eight cast has now been claimed.

Were you going with Goggins too? He was my number one choice.

I can't believe that the 2 actresses I talked about before are still in the table. They're better actresses than Rodriguez or Katee for sure.

Leigh's a great pick for Brain. Nice one, Pither.
The one I had in mind hasn't gone yet, but I've already picked my Snake.

I think a fun Snake is someone who has actually never had the chance to play a badass before. You might have to work to picture it in your mind, but I think that's better than having someone repeating same notes. I mean Katee and Reedus are TV versions, and Keanu kind of JUST did this with WICK.

That's why Zak was on my radar, and who I think is best choice so far.

Well, maybe Wyatt Russell. I mean, come on. Kid's got the genes.

That's the logic with my Evans pick, his Cap can be considered a badass but it's the total opposite from a mercenary anti-hero. The closest thing he had is Snowpiercer and it's still far.

Yeah, I started to mention that. I really like that pick, too.

JHP, are you trying to pull a Dreamscape on my draft picks? First Ice-T, now Rockwell!

Unfortunately, not one lineup has them all.

I had Starr on my list too. He'd nail it.

That was kinda my rationale on Efron as well, in addition to the fact that I needed someone who could sing.  He really feels like someone looking for that transitional movie right now.

Same with my rationale for Dan Stevens, who hasn't really had the chance outside of The Guest.

Starr has that perfect "Who the hell cares?" attitude about him. I definitely have a Banshee-like fight envisioned between Starr and Woodbine on the bridge.

That's a fine approach conceptually, but you're just trading in one pre-set criteria for another.  Personally, I'd rather pick someone who I'm sure can play the kind of character Snake is than pick someone whose career is in a similar place at the time of casting.

I figured Elba would be a day one Duke or Snake.

Well, I'm about to pick my Snake. Have at it. You might have to strain to see it. But I think my pick has physicality of an Action star, and the subtle humorr, I'm just hoping he can pull off the cunningness of Plissken. With Kurt you always sensed he was 2 steps ahead.

I saw Wyatt Russell in Everybody Wants Some and Cold in July and think he's a pretty decent actor in his own right. Definitely more charisma and range so far than someone like Scott Eastwood.

I actually had someone else lined up as my Duke when I observed that Idris wasn't taken.  I did a quick search to verify that he can sing and did a swap.

Can't believe he was still available.  I know he's a draft cliche, but he's also perfect for the role and adds just the right amount of twinkle to the role to make it fun.

I just realized Tatum was in GI JOE (never saw it), which kind of shoots my exact gameplan/ theory, but he's who I had in mind from the get go. I want to see his nasty srteak.

And now, Cabbie.  He was the easiest character for me to cast when I went into 80s musical mode.  Even in a non-singing role, Meat Loaf would be perfect.

ELVIS!!!!!!

If there was anyone I suspected would pull my Nic Cage idea away from me, it was you! I should've known!

I'm kind of Cage nuts in these things. But I'm a superfan. This is the kind of movie I'd want to see him in.

"Just one thing, right now... don't call me Harold!"

Which was exactly the moment I was imagining him selling the shit out of.

Cage is a great Brain. He'd actually make an awesome Duke, too.

Like the Koteas pick. Don't see him enough.

Before I settled on the gender-swap, I had DeVito in mind for Cabbie. Good choice, Moltisanti.

I thought DeVito would go day one.

DeVito and Pesci are tied for best Cabbie.

Meanwhile, Paxton could work for so many parts in this thing.

Rick Ross was someone I was thinking could be The Duke. There's another rapper who, I hope, someone takes.

I had another rapper thought about for the part that I think could do it. He's not much of an actor but has the smoothness and charisma, if not the malevolence, of the Duke.

Margo Martindale! Justified is getting a ton of rep in this draft.

The Duke doesn't really have much to do in the film, he's mostly just a presence. Ross could definitely do that.

Martindale. That's a fine choice.

I almost went with Common for Brain. He's good.

Henry D: I had Common dialed in as my Duke from day one and only switched him to Idris Elba at the last minute.  Great choice.

Baldwin was my first thought for a Donald Trump like president. I ended up going for a more traditional route but I bet I wasn't the only thinking about it.

The idea is that it was his idea for the prison, and I don't want to reveal the social commentary angle... but let's just say he has to experience the hell hole he created.

I almost had Tilda as a Hillary type, but I couldn't think of anyone else who could do the same thing, so I went dark and put Baldwin as a Trump type. Plus, the last Purge movie stole the obvious Hillary surrogate idea.

Seeing a lot of authoritative Presidents. I always saw him as a turtle without a shell.

Keaton was my backup Cabbie and President!

Agreed. Pleasance is a total weanie President whose only "hero" moment comes more from deranged hysteria than heroism.

Fuck. Gugino and Baccarin are the only two Maggies I had. Perfect choices.

Which is why, IMO, someone parodying an asshole like Trump would be amusing in the end. His spine would be ripped out the second he's trapped in his dystopian dream.

Gugino was on my Maggie shortlist.

Keaton is a very fun Brain.

Love the Baldwin as Trump surrogate pick.
