ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK - Casting Draft - Sign-Up/Discussion - Page 8

Poor Hammerhead.

Romero is both the Duke's prison bitch and his Rasputin. As Kurt noted, it's the performance that sets the tone. Even though HT has character amongst the bonus choices, I feel like it's a pick essential to everyone's Draft. I'm really curious to see which direction people go.

It's a small role but a memorable one.  Gotta give the actor who played Romero credit...he ran with it and made it memorable beyond just the hair.

I have no idea who to cast as Romero, so please don't take my idea.

I'd forgotten how essential Romero is. So few lines, but he stands out greatly.

A shame about Pantoliano. Would love to see him do more.

And I wondered if De Niro would show up.

Is Romero required or optional? 'Cause I have no idea where to go with that one.

He's your choice.

My god, Molt's pic for Woods.

Would love to see James Woods doing the whole 'You're the Duke! (blam blam blam) You're the Duke! (blam blam blam)  You're the one!' scene.  Pleasance is awesome here, but someone with much more manic energy like Woods would make that moment an all timer.

That's from the interview where he gave his chilling account about witnessing the 9/11 hijackers on a "dry run."

While he was still a staunch Democrat.

I'm pretty sure him and someone I don't want to say, but isn't much an actor, were subjected to alien plant pod exposure not long after.

He's a great actor. But first and foremost, he's a great American.

But not in the tradition of great Americans like Eddie Dodd and Richard Boyle, more the Lloyd Hopkins, Marvin Walker type.

Too bad we don't have a modern day Lee Marvin.  Just imagine him as Hauk.

DeNiro was a Cabbie that I'd considered for obvious reasons, but I figured someone else would also consider him for the same reasons.

Damn, I had DeNiro pegged for Romero.  Back to the drawing board...

Jim Jarmusch!

(Given that my mom married my dad because of his resemblance to Lee Marvin, I consider myself an honorary member. I owe my very existence to the man!)

I can't stop thinking about Kathy Bates with a machine gun now, Richard.

Okay, I got two ideas for Romero. One, however might be too, I don't know, unimaginative.
Who's the bearded wrestler that Snake fights in the ring? Is he in the draft?

Cylon just made the list.  I had Katy Perry as a possibility for Maggie or the Chock Full 'O Nuts roles.

Aw man, I had Paula pegged for Maggie. Kathy Bates is incredible too.

He's also in "Battle Creek Brawl."

I was waiting for Jeff Bridges as Hauk.

I would have killed to see Bridges as a Dude-seque Cabbie.

I had Remi Malek as Romero...now, I don't know what to do!

I was thinking Al Pacino for the New York connection, but to be honest, he deserves a meatier role than that.

Hey, Louis C.K.

I was wondering if someone would take him.

I had a few Cabbies on my list but when I saw no one took him I had to grab him up.

Glenn even looks a bit John Carpenter!

Ricci is a nice Maggie. She hasn't done much lately, which is a shame.

I sorta considered Louis C.K. as Cabbie, but had bigger ideas.

Louis C.K. would be a fun, but different kind of Cabbie.  Scott Glenn comes  close to my original choice for Hauk.  Like it a lot.  Wilikinson is aces as the Prez.

I wish she could get a project like Stranger Things. It was nice seeing Winona Ryder in something again.

I'm surprised on the crickets for Scarlett Johansson as Maggie.  The role needs an edge to it that's kinda in line with the Black Widow.  It's a small role but it's also one that can't be messed up with a bad actress not engaging with the material, so you'd want someone with real ability in there...that's Scarlett to me.

Also, she can sing, and I could see her belting out those Scandal songs with ease.

Wilkinson was my backup President, he's a really good modern-day Pleasence analogue.

You already won this draft. WHY YOU GOTTA RUB IT IN?

Great pick, that you posted a second before my Christina Ricci pick, and made me doubt everything I ever knew.

I draft Scarlett Johansson a lot. I just didn't think she had the hard edge and world weariness for Maggie.

Johansson is great.

See also: Michael Pitt as Romero. Goddamn!

The best thing about Adrienne Barbeau's performance is her sneer/smile.  Very few actresses can pull that off, but that one look tells you EVERYTHING that you need to know about the character.  Scarlett can pull that off, and her acting in the Marvel movies as well as UNDER THE SKIN convinces me that she make Maggie work as a character.

Everybody is having a very solid draft, so I'd be hard pressed to define a 'winner' at this point.  Regardless, thank you for the vote of confidence; it's nice to know that somebody is digging my theme.

Hmm, I didn't think Pitt was on anybody's radar.  I had him in mind for a certain take on a role I plan on dropping tomorrow.  But I have a backup.

Pitt was always on my list, but there was another Hannibal actor I could have used if I lost him.

Goodman was my original top choice for Cabbie.  But ultimately I felt he's more Chicago than New York.  Still, a very solid pick.

I had a couple other guys in mind. One was too edgy, I realized, the other was a little younger and very memorably worked with my Brain.

I was the man with two Brains; both were still on the board.  I decided to go with Davies because I thought the talk about Brain running out on Snake four years ago would work better with that Justified connection between him and Olyphant.

Fuck, Hunter. I thought Goodman would be safe for tomorrow.

Damn, ran out of rep early today.  Best day of drafting from everyone IMO.

So now I'm debating on whether to drop my pick for Romero (whom I'm not a 100% on) or a cutesy pick for Girl at Chock Full 'o Nuts tomorrow.

And I still don't have anyone for the president.
