ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK - Casting Draft - Sign-Up/Discussion - Page 9

I still have a stable of potential Hauk's.  He may very well wait until Friday.

Yeah, Hauk was super easy to find candidates for. In fact I had more 5 obvious choice (imo) before settling on Glenn.

Wouldn't that be, like, an aviary of Hauks?

A flock of Hauks?

First Goodman and now Reilly. I'm running out of Cabbies.

Jesus...I'm giggling at the idea of Malkovich as the president in this.  His freakout at the end would be howlingly funny.

John C. Reilly was the guy I was torn about drafting for Cabbie. His work as Steve Brule (which I've been watching a lot of lately) proves he can play a buffoon the way Borgnine plays him. Nice call.

Of course he'd be a good Cabbie, ya dingus.  Just gotta drive a motorcar.  Who cares?

Reilly has a rumpled loser look I dig for Cabbie. My President had to be Malkovich.

I can't get Malkovich's BURN AFTER READING performance out of my head, and I'm trying to reconcile that actor (with that performance) being the president in your version of the film.  It'd be a...shall we say...'different take' on the role.

What was Cabbie doing time for?

If memory serves, he wasn't doing time.  He was a cab driver prior to New York becoming a prison, and he stayed in the prison by choice to remain a cab driver because he didn't have anything else to do.

He didn't murder an Uber driver or anything?

I get that but Malkovich is nothing if not versatile! Pleasance plays it with a dissaccociated vacant thousand yard stare occasionally veering into wide eyed panic. I'd expect Malkovich to play it similarly detached and slightly bonkers, and I couldn't get the image of him bewildered at the end as the switched tape plays out of my head.

Unfortunately, Reilly can't drive a cherry red humdinger in New York.

But he would be able to subsist on cans.

Even the spoiled ones from abandoned Myers' Superfoods.

Why did I run out of rep not expecting everyone to drop Check It Out! references? That show sparked the idea that he'd be a great Cabbie.

Could have done a whole draft with the Check it Out! cast.

Doug Prishpreed as Romero.

FYI: Brain and Snake are the only characters drafted by all 20 people. From there:

Cabbie: 18

Maggie: 16

Hauk: 15

President: 14

Duke: 14

Romero: 5

Steve Brule as Snake

Pablo Myers as Hauk

Scott Clam as Cabbie

Brown (One and Two) as Brain

And that reverend as The Duke.

My Hauk will be dropped tomorrow. He and my Cabbie are both two actors that I don't imagine were on anyone's radar. Unless I come up with a babelicious Chock Full o' Nuts girl, I need to conjure up a great Romero.

I haven't done a Brain yet. Got 3 choices that I'd be fine with. Will likely wait until Friday. Gonna go with wild card characters tomorrow.

Weird. I don't know what happened there.

No worries. As long as nobody snags any of my Brain picks for other characters I'm feeling good.

Apropos of nothing...

ESCAPE FROM SPRINGFIELD

Snake Plissken

Hauk

The President

Brain

The Duke

Cabbie

Romero

Slag

Maggie

(Duh)

They have failed in not supplying us with at least a Halloween skit in this vein.

Heck, do Escape from Springfield Elementary with all the students.

Swapped out Barney for Otto as Cabbie.  Felt like a better fit.

I was thinking that, but was too polite to say anything.

I'm loving all the Cabbies that have been chosen today, but am also feeling kind of stupid for just now realizing the full significance of De Niro being cast in the role.

I have three potential Duchesses I'm trying to decide between, and feel like each could bring something unique to the character.

I don't believe that is mentioned anywhere in the film, but came up in "behind the scenes" articles about it.

It's definitely implied. That's kind of the joke.

I should add with my version, Cabbie is a guy who stayed behind at the prison after most of New Yorkers were forced to leave or got the hell out.

He was never a dude that seemed like a criminal.

In my version, Cabbie's in jail for unpaid parking tickets.

How typical of New York. Even funnier since it's Joe Pesci.

We'll be doing five days, two picks a day for the first four, one for the final day.

Primary:

Plissken

Hauk

Cabbie

The President

The Duke

Brain

Maggie

Secondary (Your Choice): Rehme, Romero, Chock Full O' Nuts Girl, Secretary of State, etc.

Q: I'm trying to figure out what my final 2 days drafting options are: I still need a Duke and Cabbie. And one more from the Secondary column (I already picked a Romero)?

Gonna be late on my first pick today. Pretty short intervals between groups but just mentioning it now anyway.

In my version, Cabbie killed some people. It was probably manslaughter, but you can't really be too sure.

Well, that's not at all where I thought Bailey would go…

Baron of Trump York = Barron Trump?
That's what I figured but i wasn't expecting Bale.

Patrick Bateman is Trump's spiritual son, so...

(Plus he looks great in ridiculous hair.)

Kudos, Arjen.  There have been a few brilliant picks in this draft, and yours just went to the top.  Barkhad Abdi as Romero is such a good pick that it's frightening.

I need some clarification on this. My pick is up next. We'll have (2) from the Secondary List?

That's my understanding, Elvis.

Yeah, Bale is a pretty fun pick. Harris was my Maggie before I settled on Rapace. Figured the latter would work better due to her established chemistry with Hardy.

God that pic of Eva Green.
