SUICIDE SQUAD (2016) - POST-RELEASE THREAD - Page 5

I wouldn't be surprised if Leto is recast. All the behind-the-scenes method acting has become a punchline and no one really cares about his Joker. Seems like they could do better.

He's actually Joker Jr.!

Jason Todd?!?!?!

I think this is actually a legitemate take on the Joker. This version is having a hard time adjusting to life in his early 40s, so he's getting a little tryhard with his behavior and fashion style to overcompensate.

Mid-life crisis Joker?

That's a fun idea.

So, what is it about him that's turning you off?

It's hard to say. He definately seemed unhinged but there's no glee in the performance. Its like the joker is a dead eyed psycho who pretends the exentricities. "Try hard" is a good description.

But he does seem more genuinely dangerous than any of the others. The two of them together are kind of Micky & Mallory.

The scene a lot of reviewers and think pieces complain about , Joker giving HQ as an object, I didn't read that as that at all. To me it was Joker being offended that some goon had eyed his missus up, then called her "bitch", so they played a game with him, that was always going to only end up one way.

Can't say I agree with this at all. He's Cosplay Joker and the only scary thing about cosplayers is when one of your children starts dating one.

Just because that's part of her character from before doesn't mean it has to be now.  She could on be even terms with the Joker but no she has to be the victim and be abused, it's a tired and sexist trope that Hollywood has relied on for way too long and I think it's bullshit.

Kind of what I mean. He's a dangerous dead eyed psycho cosplaying.
Urgh. Maybe that's because it was just Leto (dead eyed psycho) cosplaying

http://www.avclub.com/article/mopey-jared-leto-says-you-probably-wont-see-his-be-240724

What a fuckwit.

"We all die." LOLOLOLOLOL

He's probably just playing a fuckwit in his current filming movie.

Jared Leto is such a strange actor. He's been in several movies which have had massive cultural impact (Fight Club), are fantastic works of cinema (The Thin Red Line, Requiem For A Dream) or are simply fondly regarded by those who have seen them (Panic Room), and yet he's probably the least interesting aspect of any of them. He's an Oscar winning actor and yet I've never seen anyone proclaim him as their favorite actor, or really go to bat for any of his performances. He's supposedly a method actor and yet, until reports of his weird set antics in this movie, I've never heard him mentioned in any discussions that involve the likes of Brando, Day-Lewis, Sellers etc.

Maybe he'll be better in his next outing as the character but he left little to no impression on me here. For someone who supposedly 'lives' the part, it didn't really feel like he was inhabiting the role at all. It felt more like a guy who's standing off-set eating bagels until his name is called, and then does a wacky impression for five minutes, before heading back to finish his bagels.

Ledger's take on the Joker will never be topped.  Sorry Leto.

To be fair, you're following up one of the greatest performances of all time, let alone the best comic book movie performance of all time. Leto never stood a chance. They could've recast with DD Lewis and people still would have found something to complain about.

The only reason I give Leto a pass is because he literally came to LA with $200 and slept in crack motels trying to be an actor and was on food stamps. He definitely earned whatever he's gotten and his Oscar was probably well deserved.

Still, doesn't mean he wasn't always a prick being kept in line by poverty. And maybe the used condoms/anal beads thing was a delayed reaction to Aronofsky who told him to abstain from sex during Requiem for a Dream to help with the stressed/drugged out look.

The Joker is a pretty malleable character. I'm sure there are some interesting ways they could gone to separate this new version from Ledger's, but I just don't think "asshole hipster gangster pimp" is one of those ways.

Refrain from sex? Has Leto ever heard of "acting"?

Damaged.

I didn't hate his Joker at all, but I hate this.

I still think if we'd never gotten Ledger's version, more people would be praising Leto's version as "bold and edgy" or something. But I suppose hypotheticals like that are hard to justify.

It's all relative!

Timing is key!

If the only live action versions of the Joker we had were Romero, Nicholson, and Leto, we'd be talking about how Jared Leto can't reasonably be expected to climb out of Mark Hamill's shadow. Sometimes, a performance just sucks.
I guess I'll never know because I have no interest in seeing this.
If you've seen the trailers you've seen 95% of the joker that's in the movie
post #225 of 1303
Well my "average Joe" family and friends fucking love the hell out of this. My Facebook is chock full of posts praising it. Next week's drop isn't going to be a problem.

Hmmm... made me want to rewatch Miami Vice at least.

I liked the Flash cameo, by the way, even if the scene is only a few seconds in length. I'm really looking forward to Ezra Miller's portrayal in Justice League.

I cannot believe I'm going to say this because I hate and despite this rumor, but I kind of wish Leto WAS Jason Todd, and the real Joker was still out there.  You can't REALLY do the Red Hood thing because the Winter Soldier is the exact same story.  It makes a twisted sort of sense that if the Joker abducted the street wise thug Jason Todd and tortured him like in say the Arkham Knight, he'd come out the other end of that as this twisted angry lunatic thug.  I can already see the "Let me help you" scene between him and Batfleck where Leto breaks down and it's all very tragic and horrible and sad.

The obnoxious lightning is a bit too much.  Oh, and the fact that they changed it from orange to blue because "this world is realistic."  FUCK.  YOU.  So stupid.

It's just recently been reported that Snyder directed the Boomerang/Flash scene.

A list of deleted scenes just leaked, revealing the differences from the released film and the earlier Ayer edit.

hahahaha oh man

I like the sound of a lot of those scenes. But I'm honestly more into Joker/Harley in the theatrical. The theatrical is more ambiguous, he seems a lot slicker than in this deleted material, where he's clearly smacking her around and fucking with her head.

Hoo boy.

I wonder if that early edit will ever see the light of day.

I hope it does.

Although audiences seem to be content with the current version.

But BvS: Ultimate was originally going to get a theatrical release before they put it out on home video -- it's release wasn't necessarily a reaction to negative fan reception or a pre-emptive move.

Since this Ayer cut was so radically different, maybe WB doesn't want to muddy the waters and confuse fans re: which film is actually canon.

At least BvS: Ultimate was Ultimately the same movie -- that made it easier for them to put it out there.

edit:

I'm positive that the BvS: Ultimate cut was given a release because they thought the reaction to BvS would be overwhelmingly positive and they could make some more money this Summer.

OH MY GOD. All of my ideas for how to improve the Harley/Joker stuff are all there, but they instead decided to warp and edit it into a romantic Bonny and Clyde thing. WTF studio??? Plus all the other little things like giving Boomerang the scummy characterization we all expected...

Man FUUUUUUUUUCK WB. Fuck them so hard. They took what was almost certainly a better film and twisted and broke and warped it into their Gaurdians of the Galaxy vision cause it sells.

Fuck I'm mad.

There's no chance that they'll ever release footage of a) Joker backhanding Harley and then sweet talking her into kissing him or b) Boomerang being a racist flirt towards the film's sole Asian woman or c) references to a character in a superhero film being a serial rapist. The fact that they even shot those scenes baffles me. Hell, that they got past the pitching stage baffles me.

Joker rescuing Harley, only to toss her out of the chopper and laugh and laugh and laugh is more Joker than anything in this entire movie.  It's perfect.

Whoa! Now there's leaked b-roll of Harley running in front of Joker's car, he gets out, says some stuff, backhands her, and she falls to the ground.

Yeah, that's quintessential Joker/Harley.

Well, they want Joker to be likable and sell tickets.
Yeah, WB was probably smart from a box office POV to generally soften the film. The early cut sounds very "Ayer," for good or ill.

But I think audiences do want a creepy Joker. Folks went ga-ga for Ledger because he seemed dangerous. Defanging Leto's Joker wasn't smart.

Oh yeah.  The entire edit of this film REEKS of studio interference like nothing in recent memory.  The thought of young girls "awwwwing" over this relationship is so gross.
