And is it me, or does it completely annoy anyone else that OSU is going to be in the playoffs without having won their own conference? WTF. And then other folks are saying Michigan might have an outside shot too--are you fucking kidding? Two teams from 1 conference and neither won the conference? That's what people mean when they say the playoffs devalue the season. Everyone is striving to be in the Top 4. Conference championships don't matter, as long as you make the Top 4. I would put the winner of the Pac 12 or B1G championship games in the playoffs over Michigan. If Washington wins, it's a no-brainer.

Nope (biased, Roll Tide) but a 1 loss team and a three loss team are very different. If Wisconsin wins, then I could see arguing for OSU. If Penn State wins, with the head-to-head win also, then I think they should be in at 4.
The real fun is if the other OSU wins Bedlam, since they should really only have 1 loss in the committees eyes.
I would not leave Alabama out, because they would be a 1-loss team that lost in their Championship game. And the committee would take a 1-loss Alabama over a 3-loss UF--that I get. I guess what I'm saying is, OSU benefited from being highly ranked in the pre-season, and they didn't drop hardly at all from losing to Penn State. And by attrition they moved back to #2--jumping back up 3 spots in one week. And if Michigan had won that game, I'm sure everyone would be discussing OSU possibly still remaining in the playoffs. And if you laid it out and said you had 1 undefeated team, then 3 1-loss teams available for the other 3 spots, then it's a given. It's just a twist of fate that OSU is one of those teams and isn't going to lose another game this year while everyone else is playing a CG.
I like the 8 team playoff scenario with 5 conference champs + 3 wildcard teams.
Right, so basically the Alabama/Florida championship game is meaningless. Everyone would agree that even if they were to somehow lose 52-3 they'd still be the top team in the playoffs.
It comes down to sometimes a conference championship matters and sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't matter for Alabama and like it or not it doesn't matter for Ohio State. It surely matters for Washington and Clemson.
Eventually it will go to 8 teams, but then we'll just get the same gripes from the 9-12 teams instead of the 5-8's.
So after all that, it's Alabama, Clemson, OSU, and Washington. Should be interesting games. Both games are basically good offenses (Clemson, Washington) vs good defenses (Alabama, OSU).
FSU plays Michigan in the Orange Bowl. They play better vs. teams with a pro-style offense, but that defense...hoo boy.
Hypesman finalists are presumptive-winner Lamar Jackson (Louisville), Deshaun Watson (Clemson), Jabril Peppers (Michigan), Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) and Dede Westbrook (Oklahoma).
I know they're picked based on votes but really, two Oklahoma dudes among the final five? I would have rather seen Cook or Foreman there.
I'm curious to see Chris Petersen's game plan against Bama after a month of planning, but I still think Bama will flatten them. I think Clemson / Ohio State could be fantastic.
Vols signed the #1 recruit in the country today. CHAMPIONS OF LIIIIIIFE!
As a Bama fan, I'm not scared of the Washington football team, but Chris Petersen terrifies me.
Taggert to Oregon (good hire)
Kiffin to Houston (uhhhhhh...ok?)
Lawrence Dawsey is a name being mentioned as a possible HC at USF. I'm fine with it--some of the coaches need to be refreshed at FSU, and that's a good way to do it.
Lane Kiffin goes to Florida Atlantic.
Lane Kiffin goes to Florida Atlantic.
That was weird--I saw several posts on Twitter and other places that said Kiffin was going to Houston.
De'andre has done everything they've asked him to do and more. I hope he does well. I don't think that was indicative of the kind of person he is. The girl supposedly called him the n-word a couple of times and told him to fuck off because he was trying to get to the bar and she was blocking the way. But you've got to let that stuff go. You can't react, especially if you're a student-athlete. There was a case at the start of the season where a girl claimed Dalvin Cook punched her. It went to trial, and the jury took 25 minutes to find him not guilty, and the jurors even commented it never should have gone to trial. When the evidence was all presented, it appeared the girl was drunk, and she fell, and when she stood up, her friend went to help her up at the same time and they cracked heads. When she got back up, she turned around and the first person she saw was Dalvin. So she assumed he punched her. And the friend never said anything because she was also drunk off her ass and didn't remember what happened.
And that Wakeyleaks thing is the weirdest thing this year I think. What a bizarre story.
So Minnesota players are threatening to boycott the Holiday Bowl after 10 of their players were suspended and facing expulsion after a sexual assault. My first thought was, "Okay, let's give them a chance, maybe they care deeply about due process." Then, last night, the team makes a joint statement for the media, with the player reading the message vowing "to make our program great again."
Hey, Minnesota Gopher football players: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUU.
I can't believe 5-7 Miss State was in a bowl. And then they won by blocking a FG at the end of the game. Why don't we just have 60+ bowls so everyone can go and no one feels bad about themselves?
Bonus: the shoplifting occurred during a Belk Bowl-related shopping spree sponsored by Belk in which each player gets a $450 gift card to buy stuff at Belk. I guess he got caught up in the sheer Belkiness of it all.
I feel really bad for the 'Bama kid who totally blew the coverage on that last play.
Another sort of weird cosmic thing--Warrick Dunn, who continues to give houses away to single moms with families in tribute to his own mom who was killed in the line of duty as a cop, gave away a home in 2006 to the family of Deshaun Watson.
The total bullshit smoke and mirrors offseason pre-draft nonsense rumor is that Arizona is very interested in Deshaun Watson and are considering trading up.
I don't want it to be total bullshit smoke and mirrors offseason pre-draft nonsense. We need a QB, I like D-Wat and we still don't even know if Palmer is coming back.
So very true. I personally wish they'd go after Derek Barnett with the #1 pick, who I think is better than Myles Garrett. They need help at every position, save for LT, so might as well get the best players you can.
Joe Thomas said exactly that on Dan Patrick (I believe it was DP's show).
