Stop crying and go see me making fun of Batman Begins in the Doctor Strange thread.

I can't! Don't want to read the post release thread until I've seen the movie!

Motherfuck, you read my posts and you like it.

If it does get to the point where this series is outright remaking the original films, is it too much to ask that they keep BENEATH's nihilistic ending?

Why didn't it occur to me until just now that Harrelson might be the astronaut who took off in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes?

What makes you say that?

Check out Harrelson's hand. Will his character's last name be revealed to be "Mendez"?

EDIT:  Holy shit, just caught this, too:

Empire has Reeves breaking down the trailer, and he says Harrelson heads a survivalist miliary cell called the Alpha-Omega unit (great catch on the hand brand, btw.)

It's more something that I wish were true, if only because Chekhov's Gun would be enforced by law if I were king. I want that business with the astronauts to lead to something.

I'm pretty sure the astronauts business was merely set up for the arrival of Chris Hemsworth as George Taylor in a later instalment.

A new trailer is out. I think this movie might be pretty good.

TRAITOR APE!

Looks great. Never would I have suspected that a Planet of the Apes prequel/remake trilogy would be some of the best blockbusters of the last 10 years. And yet, here we are.

That just looks terrific.  This is possibly my most anticipated movie of the summer.

That looks fantastic.

And I'll admit: I'm almost not wanting to see it. DAWN was great but also hard to watch: seeing the foibles of history and humanity play out in this SF allegory is fucking hard for me. I love Caesar. The main humans in DAWN were good people, too. Sympathy for all sides but horror and despair at how fucked the situation is and will only continue to be. Cheering for the apes while also not wanting to cheer against my own species.

Nah, humans are trash. All of history, but especially the last year, kind of proves that.

APES! TOGETHER! STRONG!

That's excellent drama, though.  Anything that can make an audience feel conflicted and nuanced is a great thing.

So this is basically a better Dawn. Look's alright, but it's getting kinda tedious at the same time. I want some psychic mutants and time travel already.

I completely agree! They've done an excellent job in creating nuanced tension and drama.

Right, except the apes already had their Trump with Koba.

They're no better than us!

That analogy doesn't really hold water though since Koba was competent.

Spoilery trailer? Tired of seeing all the big moments.

They're laying a bit of groundwork for the mutants in this one, actually.  Whether or not anything eventually comes of that is another matter.

That old ass ape has some knowledge, I am telling you.

Tired of people assuming a two minute trailer showed them all the big moments of a two hour film. Y'know, there's more to storytelling than just plot.
True that. I'm hoping Woody shaving is a bombshell...

*spoilers*

He's an ape!

This is one of those films I just don't need anymore trailers, clips or story rumors for. They earned my money five years ago, they've already got it for this. Caesar's one of my favorite film characters of the last twenty years. This looks like a fitting end to his story. Also - Woody is simply the best.

Koba is not ape.

Curious to see what everyone thinks about this film. I don't mean it as a negative at all, but it's basically the Dark Knight Rises of the reboot series. It's also the first film that is 100% from the apes' POV.
I like it already.

I'll probably see this.

Is it though? I assume Woody's character will be a POV character as well.

Yeah, that's exactly my thought as well - he's our human POV for the film for sure. You don't get fucking Woody-The-Great if he isn't.

"THIS MOVIE IS BANANAS!!"

-asshole film critic

I would kinda love for someone to do that.

"LOOK AT MY PUNCHABLE FACE!"

-Chris Stuckman in every thumbnail of his video reviews.

Seriously, never watched the guy but I always see the thumbnails for his videos on YouTube. That face.

Eh, I like him. He's a good guy who knows his stuff on the whole. I don't always agree with the guy, but I've enjoyed his content for a few years now.

Fair enough. Again, I've never watched him, I was just making a joke based on the thumbnails I've seen of his videos.

I'm a shallow, shallow man.

Light spoiler here, so I'll tag it just in case.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Outside of that waterfall bit in the trailers, Woody doesn't have another scene until an hour into the movie.

Is that to say it's the worst of the series? That it's a bad movie?

Either way it beats being the Batman and Robin of the series.

No, that it's very long (the cut I saw ran 165 minutes) and kind of messy.

Personally, warts and all, I thought TDKR worked, and think the same of War for the Planet of the Apes.  But I also think Dawn's better.

Dude, hearing Caesar yell "WE ARE THE BEGINNING! WE ARE THE END!" made me want to go fight for Caesar right now.

He's just appealing to the middle class. Don't fall for it!
