My mother in law is staying with us right now. Trying to decide if I want to watch this while she is out shopping tomorrow, or wait until tomorrow night when she's like "Let's watch a movie. Do you have anything with Julia Roberts? I just loooove her!"

Definitely watch it with your mother in law she will love it!

I will say this about my mother in law. I think it was two years ago she came down for Thanksgivingz at the end of the evening we were all into our scotch and flipping through the channels. Lo and behold one of them was starting up Kill Bill. They were doing a double feature of both volumes. The title alone amused her (her husbands name is Bill). We say there and watched all 4 hours of that fucking thing (Bill and my wife tapped out during the first one because booze, food, and after 9). But me and her watched the whole fuckin thing. She was going on about how much she wanted a Pussy Wagon sticker to put on the back of her scooter. So you can laugh all you want, but she's pretty cool sometimes.

I mean, you have to be a real pompous asshole to make a 90 minute movie a 2.5 hour epic.  You are not Stanley Kubrick.  The script is too predictable, dull and stupid for the kind of movie Verbinski thinks he's making.  Does he have final cut, but because I don't know what studio would allow such bloat when he's already known for bloated blockbusters, the last of which lost DIsney $200M.

And this is why it's great!

Nothing is sadder to me than the idea of a version of this movie without unchecked hubris.

Unchecked hubris is fine if you're Paul Thomas Anderson or Tarantino.  Actual geniuses.

What Dalyn is trying to say is that someone has to take responsibility.

Dalyn needs to drink more water.

Man, this movie. This fucking movie.

That last 30 minutes has to be among the craziest released by a major studio in recent memory. I can't believe someone gave Verbinski a budget for this.

Especially after The Lone Ranger (a movie I like a lot)!

They gave Verbinski a budget to make a gonzo horror movie that is also just gore-gous!

Yeah this movie is basically Verbinki's version of the Joker burning money meme. But I love it nonetheless. That freaking scene with the eels is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen (major studio or otherwise).
