That election professor also predicted Trump is getting impeached.

While I would love to see Republicans drop Trump like the rube he is, I am kind of worried about the different ways Trump would lash out if they betray him.

You act like that hasn't been the gameplan this whole time. Paul Ryan didn't cut his own nose off by endorsing Trump and sticking with it just to spite his face.

Bill Maher coming up in less than 15 minutes.

Should be quite interesting.

Daily Beast has the complete episode and a partial transcript. I'm not watching the full hour this late at night just out of curiosity, but what they quoted in text sounds like he just acknowledged that the campaigning is over and it's time to move forward. He acknowledged the double standard of liberals who endured eight years of Birtherism with indignation, but now want to say "the new President isn't my President." Nothing that I saw there was a defense of Trump's character; it's just a refusal to be a hypocrite.

Maher's passion for semantics is one of his more interesting traits, to me, but it's gotten him in trouble before; his last show was canceled by the network that aired it after he questioned whether it was appropriate for President Bush to call the 9/11 hijackers "cowards," arguing that carrying out a suicide mission does at least take some form of courage. He wasn't siding with the terrorists, for God's sake - it just gets under his skin when people fail to argue with precision - but he fixated on this and insisted that his guests debate the matter with him while bodies were still being pulled out of the rubble. He was being cerebral, to the point of tone-deaf detachment from the nation's mood.

I don't understand how the anti-Trump protests are hypocritical, if you're comparing them to birtherism. The birther conspiracies were obviously totally false and fucking stupid. Trump and his horde of orcs CLEARLY intentionally scared and divided the nation with lies and racism.

Yeah. If you recall during W, protests were a way of life. All of a sudden, idiots will start to pretend they give a shit about flag burning. Expect the word 'Unamerican' to come back into popular usage.

Even Bill Maher can find one good thing about a Donald Trump presidency (though to be fair, he’s found many more things he thinks are very, very bad).

He revealed on Real Time tonight that the good thing is that PC and Islam apologists are going to have to change their ways.

The “Liberal RedneckTrae Crowder appeared on Maher’s show to point out that the election of Trump could be viewed as a backlash against liberal elites who choose not to understand what people in the middle of the country are feeling.

Maher agreed wholeheartedly, saying the Democratic Party lost the “white working man.” He continued railing against the way he sees liberalism invalidating the feelings of white men, asking, “What should I do? Cut my dick off and check my privilege?”

He said liberals are “outrageous with [their] political correct bullshit” and insistence on being kind to Muslims in the wake of Islamic terrorist attacks.

Ana Marie Cox fought back, asking if he was really suggesting that American politics doesn’t cater enough to white men. Crowder shot at her, “You’re right but do you want to be right or do you want to fucking win?”

Fucking hell. I've never watched Real Time but man I don't ever feel the need to waste my time with Maher and his thinly veiled racist shit. He is good friends with that whackjob Ann Coulter after all.

I haven't watched the Maher episode, but to be fair, that stuff's always kinda been part of his ethos. And he's kind of gotten me to think twice about some knee-jerk lefty opinions. There's truth in the idea that if you want to win, you kind of have to convince some of the borderline conservatives that we've got more to offer over here than contempt.

That said, when one side is wallowing in racist rhetoric, it gets a little bit tougher to empathize with their strong gut feelings that the country is headed in the wrong direction. For all the articles I'm seeing about the Liberal Elites and how they're to blame with their contempt and their insult comedy, I can't work up to much empathy for all these sore winners. Progressive thought is about to get fucked with pretty bad; maybe that'll motivate the millennials.

Following a generally warm relationship between Angela Merkel and Obama, Germans are now beginning to worry about what the future holds now that Trump - who very publicly criticised Merkel's handling of the migrant crisis - is in power.

Quote:
Chancellor Angela Merkel and the outgoing US President Barack Obama forged a strong and warm partnership, which survived the revelation that American spies had listened in to her mobile phone calls.

And it was a relationship that had implications for the rest of Europe.

When the US wanted to send arms to the Ukrainians, for example, Mrs Merkel weighed in and deterred them. And as the main interlocutor between Russia's Vladimir Putin and the West, Mrs Merkel - and Germany - have wielded influence.

The problem now is that no-one knows what happens next.

As Germany's rather shocked defence minister pointed out, we don't really know where Mr Trump stands on foreign policy.

That uncertainty is not going down well with German business, finance and industry leaders.

"The self-destruction of the West continues," noted Joerg Kramer, chief economist at Commerzbank.

America is Germany's biggest trading partner. More than a million jobs are thought to depend on the export market.

Mr Trump's comments about trade agreements have unnerved many here. TTIP - the controversial, planned trade deal between Europe and the US - was already struggling. Many believe it's now finished.

Exactly.

Before the election, Maher called Drumpf's campaign a right-wing, Russian coup. In the episode, he directly called Drumpf a racist. I'm pretty confident he's not going Dennis Miller's route (ugh, that fucking guy).

That episode of Maher's show was unfortunately him reacting like many of us: reeling. But, he suggested the Democrats nominate Anthony Weiner. He said he misses Dubya. He instructed Ruth Bader-Ginsburg that she must live forever. He passed out hats to the panel and the audience that read, "We're still here."

Trumpocalypse and the popularity of our Dipshit party (populist nationalists, won't bother checking their English title) made me realise this: several Dipshits aren't real working men or women, as in politicians who worked their asses off to get a University degree and proceed to climb up the political ladder. Instead a lot of them come from a background of inheriting their family companies. So is it too much to assume that deep down the quote-unquote disappointed white folk (ie. Dipshit supporters) don't want to live in a democracy, but in a monarchy? They want to believe in some kind of a caste system where power isn't something you earn through work, it's something you born into. There is a weird comfort in outsourcing the shittiness of your own life, it just wasn't meant to be. See also: the success of George W. jr.

A conflict of interest:

Can the General Services Administration litigate against the man who can now hire and fire its leader at will?  Trump often doesn't pay his bills, and we know what he thinks of regulations.

Such a bizarre situation. So many people on the right are blaming the Democrats, and the media, and the Washington elite, but shouldn't they be celebrating? Why is the FIRST THING that has to happen when the populist right gets their candidate elected a lashing out, and a demand that we all admit we led them to this? Everyone else is pointing fingers.

There is no "hidden" elite. Julian Assange actually said Trump "would not be allowed to be President" by the forces and powers and yada yada yada. Well, guess what? He did. Alex Jones's Jesus-figure is now The Establishment™. This is actually a democracy. You caught the car. The alt-right guy won. Only the KKK seem to be having real celebrations right now.

Why is it so important that the rest of us pretend that a factory-worker has every bit as much to say about the environment as an environmental researcher? When Obama won, the left seemed ecstatic. The right just seems angrier. The sketch with the British Keith Olbermann railing against Hillary is on people's Facebook pages with comments like, "Finally, an honest Democrat!" Donald himself even looks defeated and depressed right now.

Just weird stuff.

There's some small schadenfreude to be had out of the fact that Trump's clearly not terribly happy with winning. I suspect that Hillary's popular vote win gnaws at him too, particularly since the position she's in - winner of the vote, loser of the Presidency - was likely his best case scenario. He would have fucking loved that.

The scariest thing about Trump winning is how it's empowered the White Supremeists to act out:

Chaz posted this in the Election thread:

http://www.cosmopolitan.com/politics/a8263120/disgusting-election-reactions/

And the Washington Post has this story:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/vitriol-only-intensifies-after-bitter-election/2016/11/11/3cc4ea42-a828-11e6-8042-f4d111c862d1_story.html?wpisrc=nl_rainbow&wpmm=1

Trump needs come out and speak to this at a minimum. Even still, he stoked these fires for a couple of years to get him into office. It's not going to be easy to make these people shut up.
