Robert Reich: 7 Things Obama Should Do Before Trump Walks Into The White House

I read the list, and I have to imagine that some of these would be under serious consideration.  Obama dismantled the infrastructure for NSEERS, and at this point the idea of an orderly transition is IMHO moot.  It would look petty on the short term, but bluntly put, fuck that.  Remove as many tools as legally possible from Trump and his band of assholes.

There's literally hundreds of criticisms leveled at Obama that are now null and void, because all the Democrats would have to do is produce a DJT tweet.

This supposes that Democrats are somewhat competent of course. A lethal assumption.

Thats assuming the people who need to hear that are willing to hear it in the first place. Judging how the election went, none of that matters because truth and fact doesnt really exist anymore.

It's important to keep reminding ourselves that we don't need 51% of the population to reject fake news and idiotic orange manchildren. We just need about 5% MORE. Or even 2% more, if it's in the right states.

We may have steered hard right into the Idiocracy in 2016, but we're not there yet.

So, in the interest of breaking our unofficial live journal of the End Times into manageable chapters, do we start a Trumpocalypse 2017 thread? We're coming up on 70 pages and the fool hasn't even been sworn in yet.

I vote we start a God Emperor Trump thread after Jan 20.

He added: “And I know a lot about hacking. And hacking is a very hard thing to prove. So it could be somebody else. And I also know things that other people don’t know, and so they cannot be sure of the situation.”

When asked what he knew that others did not, Mr. Trump demurred, saying only, “You’ll find out on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Mr. Trump, who does not use email, also advised people to avoid computers when dealing with delicate material. “It’s very important, if you have something really important, write it out and have it delivered by courier, the old-fashioned way, because I’ll tell you what, no computer is safe,” Mr. Trump said.

“I don’t care what they say, no computer is safe,” he added. “I have a boy who’s 10 years old; he can do anything with a computer. You want something to really go without detection, write it out and have it sent by courier.”

That's why he loves Twitter so much. No pesky computers to deal with, no "servers" (whatever they are), no confusing his monitor for being the actual computer, etc.. The Twitter icon on his phone sits nicely next to his PornHub icon.

I wonder if anyone in the White House Press Corps will actually become a journalist, now that we're going to have a President who bypasses them entirely and makes their favor-currying completely obsolete. I'm not going to hold my breath or anything.

We are hilariously close to having a President T-Rex*. Like, way closer than anyone would have ever thought possible.

(someone just informed me that Rex Tillerson's nickname is T-Rex. Too good)

I'm looking at the bright side of Trump not wanting to engage the press as president: We won't have to hear his idiotic ramblings or his awful accent if he's not speaking out load and/or publicly. His tweats I can deal with, to a a certain extent.

I'd like to think that him speaking publicly will help to hasten the impeachment.
He'll eventually say something so stupid and absurd that even the GOP won't be able to defend it.

But, I know all this is a long shot...

First the Dept of Energy request, now this....

I can't be the only one that thinks this is more than a little creepy (with a large dash of nefarious)

Exclusive: Trump team seeks names of officials working to counter violent extremism

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's transition team has asked two Cabinet departments for the names of government officials working on programs to counter violent extremism, according to a document seen by Reuters and U.S. officials.

The requests to the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security involve a set of programs that seek to prevent violence by extremists of any stripe, including recruitment by militant Islamist groups within the United States and abroad.

Reuters could not determine why the Trump team asked for these names. The Trump team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

You're definitely dreaming. At this point, Trump could plagiarize a Hitler speech and the GOP would find their way around it.

Caught Sean Spicer on one of the news shows this morning. (Trump's incoming press secretary.) Could only stomach about 60 seconds. He essentially said, "Hey, since we don't believe it affected the election, why should we care if someone hacked us? Also, it's the DNC's fault, and they should be blamed for it, except it doesn't really matter because reasons."  He also says Trump is open to it being the Russians but requires "confirmation."

That the party that claims to love the Constitution so much they want to straight and gay marry it is willing to choke down these lame-ass dismissals of a foreign power actively tampering with our election process is mind-boggling.

"Here's the confirmation that Russia hacked the DNC."

"I'm going to wait until we have confirmation."

"Yes, that's what I said. It's right here."

"I still think I'm going to wait until we have confir--"

"It's. Right. Here."

"No, I think I'll wait until..."

"President-elect Donald Trump claimed on Saturday to know "a lot about hacking" and said the best way to send important communications is to "have it delivered by courier, the old-fashioned way."

At the VERY least, we may now get an updated redux of QUICKSILVER.

There's something delightful about a President-Elect of the United States actively encouraging people to communicate via means that the NSA can't eavesdrop on.

This year in Trump:

The GOP doesn't want the Office of Congressional Ethics anymore.  Without an independent review, accountability and transparency are harder to come by:

I guess this is what Paul Ryan meant by "Better Way."

I spoke too soon.  Republicans voted in favor of dropping the independent review, despite Ryan's wishes that they wouldn't.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2017/01/02/house-republicans-vote-to-rein-in-independent-ethics-office/?hpid=hp_rhp-top-table-main_houseethics833pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.4128bb587d32

So, the first GOP headline of 2017 is: Americans just don't need to know what's going on.

Huh, it's almost like the GOP is going to secretly govern like Scott Walker in Wisconsin or Republicans in Mississippi or... well, you get the point.

It would be nice to hear what Trump thinks about the Ethics office being reined back, but he hasn't done a press conference since July.  At least, Elizabeth Warren is asking the right question:

https://twitter.com/SenWarren/status/816118394680393728

EDIT: The vote was private because of course it was.  Witht that said, it allows Democrats to go after all Republicans in 2018 with ads about this reining in.  That is, if people even care anymore.

Look at the election results and Twitter. People don't give a fuck. They've signed up to give away what little real liberty we have for security and promised "greatness."

ETA-

Of course, that hasn't actually passed, and if the Republican vote remains that close, they won't be able to pass it w/o Democrat allies.

The attempt is telling, though. Even on election night, I was more worried about the elephants winning the Senate and House than I was about the Orangutan winning the Presidency.

How can you have a view point that sees this move as anything other than evil?
