oh man, this is already coming out this coming week?

Yep. No advance word out does not bode well. I don't think anyone was really expecting this to surpass the 1999 film but this seems like it's going to bomb, big time. I predict a decent opening weekend and then it drops like a fucking stone.

I'm headed to Universal this month. It's always awkward and hilarious when the guide on the backlot tour has to hype a shitty film that either just bombed or is about to.

He gained weight for The Lovely Bones, a movie he wasn't even in!

Gosling is a hair away from Haley Joel Osment in that pic.

I'm baffled by how in those clips, which have been carefully selected to elicit audience interest, absolutely nothing works. Even though there's clearly a lot of money on the screen, the clips look barely professional. The tech people and the actors seem to be trying but the timing, shot composition, tone, everything else just drags this down. And that would be in the case if making THE MUMMY a contemporary cliched action film isn't a bad idea altogether.

Yeah, Horror fans have It Comes At Night, blockbuster fans have WW. I can even see this sinking to fifth place behind even Captain Underpants and Pirates.

I might catch it if the reviews aren't terrible, I've always got time for Cruise and Boutella is scrummy. Can't see how the reviews won't be terrible though. It just looks like a big pile of nothing.

They recently released a new featurette (I'm at work and can't dig around for it) where Cruise gushes about all of the amazing locations in the movie. I'll be honest (and this will sound horribly jaded): one desert looks pretty much the same as another, and I've seen foggy London in countless movies. There's nothing here on par with, say, the Burj Khalifa in Ghost Protocol.

Other than production values, this looks amazingly bad/bland. I'm not a fan of clips in general - almost always, the lack of context hurts them - but these play badly even when considering that we're seeing them out of context.

"They made a pact that would unleash darkness itself."

What the fuck does that even mean? Again, we're not getting context but that plays like the intro to a D&D module written by a 13 year old in 1982.

Rail against Marvel all you want, but they're showing us that what mostly feels like an effortless unspooling of a shared universe is actually really trick and difficult to pull off.

The clip where Cruise and his buddy scream about air strike is downright embarrassing to watch. I guess it's a sort of an achievement to make me feel sorry for Tom Cruise.

Yeah, that was pretty awful. Very forced gallows humor.

I would've thought Van Helsing would be their Nick Fury equivalent.

I've said it before, and will surely say it again: I would fully support Key and Peele Meet Frankenstein.

That was easily the worst clip of the lot.  It baffles me that somebody read that in the script and signed off on it.

hahahah bad audio mixing keeps cursing this movie!

the thing was probably either unfinished or mixed down for streaming and it ends up sounding like both guys are screaming for nothing because the sound of the explosions and gunfire around them are muted

and they just end up looking dumb!

for some reason I don't like jake johnson

Samesies. I rolled my eyes big time when I noticed him in the clip but then felt bad because it felt baseless.
I know! I don't know why I don't really like him!

I don't think he's a bad actor or anything. But just something about him...

I've decided that I don't like Annabelle Wallis (the female lead in this) for no real reason, other than she comes across a bit stand-offish in interviews. Plus she's apparently dating the lead singer of Coldplay and Coldplay SUCK.

She was really good in PEAKY BLINDERS.

She was really good in KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD.

Not really, but she was in it.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.  The best video game adaptation ever made for a video game that doesn't exist.

My wife, the ultimate Joe Sixpack when it comes to film, watched this trailer and said the movie looked scary enough that she won't see it.

$150M opening weekend, folks. You heard it here first.

I always like to use my mother as a baseline woman-on-the-street. She saw it in front of GotG 2, snorted derisively, and didn't think much of it, but liked the use of "Paint It Black."

Hmm, the thing that really annoyed me about the trailer is that they keep on using the same riff from Paint it Black, again and again and again.  Argh.

THIRTY SECONDS LATER

Me: "God DAMMIT. Set was not the God of Death. How many fucking pairs of hands did this script go through without anyone taking a moment to Google Egyptian mythology?"

Apparently this Set was and from that clip is also a 2 HD zombie from the first edition of AD&D.

True, but that five seconds of Brian Jones is still the best thing in the trailer by leaps and bounds.

Basically at this point I think they must actively forbid research or something.

Shit like that pulls me out of the scene just as fast as if Jekyll had said "zoom and enhance."

I was distracted by wondering if we were supposed to think it was supposed to be Egypt-y music. I thought that was a sitar playing. From India?

Counterpoint: it's part of another studio's attempt to get a Marvel-type franchise going, which means it's doomed to crash and burn hilariously.

I keep coming back to that pic of Crowe in his Hyde look. I love it. That one little bit alone has caused me to stay intrigued about this. They didn't make Mr. Hyde some big dumb CGI behemoth. He really just looks like a scarily unhinged version of the same man and I dig the hell out of that. That just leads me to believe that somewhere, someone has the right ideas about aspects of this and maybe these flicks will come into their own at some point. I'm fully prepared for The Mummy to win me over..

Crowe is the ONLY thing about this that interests me at all. Having a woman be the mummy initially did, but all signs point to her being a lamer version of Imhotep from the Sommers' film. Pass.

I'll wait till I hear some actual thoughts from people who've seen it before I write it off that completely. So little of this feels like it's been shown that I don't feel I know enough or have seen enough to judge in any way just based on that.

If it's bad, my money is on it just being a bunch deadly dull, white noise, nothingness. Theres no harm in being optimistic though. It's not like I'm gonna have nervous breakdown or weep uncontrollably if it sucks. We'll all forget about it and that'll be that. I just very simply hope it exceeds expectations. Who wouldn't?

That's not from this movie. That's exactly the type of thing I do NOT want to see.

I don't see what makes a picture from Van Helsing relevant in any way.

This is what I'm talking about. I find that pic subtle, eerie and frankly very cool. He may not even be full Hyde in that pic. But the one from The Mummy is about as far from that Van Helsing bullshit as you can get and I love it for that..

That one's from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The picture I posted of Crowe is The Mummy 2017's Mr Hyde.

Those other two look like absolute shit. Which fits....because those movies are absolute shit. Hopefully The Mummy won't be. It's gotta at LEAST be better than Van Helsing and LXG. Hell, it could be better than those two and still be awful..
I'm tempted to argue that any movie that is not The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen would have to be better than The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but I don't want to tempt fate.

Highlander 2 would like a word with you.

I count myself as fortunate for never having seen it, and I plan to keep it that way.
The definitive Hyde is clearly this guy:

Highlander II is better than League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. But I'm going purely on which one I'd rather sit through again.

Preferably neither...but if I had to choose..

Yup.
