WRATH OF THE DARK SIDE

I hope they continue to avoid using words they've used before.

I also hope, moreso, that they never use the word 'Rise' in a title. There is no current film trend more hacky than naming a film 'Rise of the _____ '.

I just hope it's a 4 word title to maintain the trilogy tradition.  It's a minor thing but I'd be disappointed if it weren't maintained.

A New Hope? The Phantom Menace? The Force Awakens?

I assume Judas means that the second part of the trilogy always has a title composed of four words.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

ATTACK OF THE CLONES

You are correct sir.

First part of the trilogy: 3 word title

parts 2 and 3: 4 word titles.

Balance.  Tradition.  Comfort.

Does that make Rogue One equivalent to Star Wars' two-word title before it got re-titled A New Hope? So free of George Lucas's constant tinkering?

Well shit.  I went back and gave you rep.  I was reading this page off/on over the past few days while it was up and down and must have processed this in the memory banks.  My apologies.

The new trilogy will probably stick close to the original films' titles. I will always appreciate Lucas for coming up with really, really pulpy/dorky titles for the prequels. I can't see Disney letting words like ATTACK, REVENGE or PHANTOM MENACE anywhere near the new films.

I agree. 'The Empire Strikes Back' is as pulpy a title imaginable. The long term threat to Star Wars is a potential reticence to take risks (Rogue One heartened me a bit on this front).

With TFA and J.J. Abrams, you've got a director far too tasteful and sensible to come up with something like Jar Jar, Nute Gunray, or Ewoks. But never - not in a billion years - would he be able to come up with stuff as out-there and kooky as Vader, Princess Leia, Yoda, Bespin, Jabba the Hutt, carbonite, the hero's hand getting chopped off, the main character being burned alive, hippie warrior-monks, etc.

Too cheesy?

This one's not meant to be a joke actually. We all know that second chapters (even when it's part 8 I guess) have to be darker so, I dunno..

The verb or the adjective may be inspired by unguessable plot elements. Then again, the noun may be in play too.

The article will probably be "the".

Oh hell yes, Hammerhead. They've been cribbing from old drafts and storyboards, it's about time that novel got picked apart.
