Anyone else played it?

Thanks for posting my review of ZOMBIES!!!. Hope someone finds it useful. I know it is not strictly the norm for games to be reviewed here, but I remembered one being done for the horror trivia game and figured I would give it a shot.

So has anyone else played ZOMBIES!!!? What opinions you have?

I plan to get the first expansion within the week and get it into gaming rotation. If the first review sees enough interest I will gladly review the expansion also.

So what does everyone else think?

Not yet. But your review sold me. Does a game like this have a precedent (other zombo-centric rpgs/board games)?

Not that I have seen for board games.... but certainly there are plenty horror theme role-playing games.

(NOTE: the review link on the sidebar says it is an RPG, which technically is not true.)

The rules have a review from the creator of one fo those RPGs called "All Flesh Must Be Eaten". And of course the usual lineup... Chill, Vampire, Werewolf, Hell on Earth, Call of Cthulu, Beyond the Supernatural, etc... etc...

But I think this is the first board game on the topic like this. If not the VERY first, i have not seen any I recall, and I am an avid gamer.

I never got into these RPG games. A good friend of mine in school used to be heavily into all that "War Hammer" stuff. Frankly it didn't look very exciting to me. I was always more attracted to the videogames, I suppose because they were flashier.

So how do you play this stuff- you need a bunch of players, some dice, and the board game? then what happens?

Early on I got suckered into TSR's Marvel Super Heroes (8-9 years old... role-playing that young is akin to smoking dope while in diapers... fucks ya up for the rest of your life),... a little AD&D, Battletech and Shadowrun followed that through my preadolescence. It's addictive, a lot of time went into those systems.

If you don't get RPGs, think of the beginning of ET, where Eliot's older brother and friends are playing Dungeon and Dragons... that's kinda how it feels. A warm fuzzing feeling.

But yeah, this ZOMBIES!!! doesn't look like an rpg... just looks like an uncomplicated good time (almost like the Cloak and Dagger quasi-rpg, for those who remember).

Role Playing Game (RPG)- in these you create characters and then act out what they woudl do in given situations. Actions are resolved with dice (normally) based on the difficulty of the action and the level of skill your character has. these are like living stories. You can use miniatures and maps, but they are not strictly neccessary.

Computer Equivalents- Neverwinter nights, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot

Wargames- this is Warhammer, Battletech, HeroClix, etc... these games are about controlling armies of miniatures and winning battles against your opponent. You are not in any real character, but act as an overseer determining what your armies or units will do strategically.

Computer Equivalent- Warcraft, Starcraft, Command & Conquer

Boardgames- these are as simple as Sorry, or as complex as Settlers of Cataan. These you are neither a character, nor do you control armies. You control a single toekn and try to accomplish the winning objective before everyone else.

ZOMBIES!!! is certainly a board game. Unlike a static board like monopoly, the tile system makes each game different. The rules are fast and easy.

You can pay $35 for Monopoly, and all they give you is a shoe..............

I own it, the add-on and the Bag o' glow in the dark zombies, it's really worth it. Great review too, though I STRONGLY recommend you all get the bag of zombies... especially for games with 3 or more players... you run out of zombies pretty fast.

We wrote up some house rules, it's great. Great fun if you play with the dead trilogy in the background, a few brews, serious fun.

The website even has scenario games, and even some solo scenarios. And i hope i got the idea across the idea that the zombies swarm. hehe.... DEFINATELY want to buy the bag o' ZOMBIES!!!. Any product with that name alone deserves to be purchased.

Y'know, I've known about this game for a while... My wife actually bought a bag full of zombies for work. She manages a restaurant, and when she saw her servers do something good, she'd give them a zombie. When they got five, lunch/dinner was on her. Worked surprisingly well. Now I might need to put those zombies to their actual use.

This is like Space Hulk another fun tile game. If it's half that fun I must own it.

Hehe.... just picked up the expansion.

Seems there is at least some interest, so let me give it a few runs to work out the kinks and i will have another review to post.

The way this game looks, a board game with the small figurines, reminds me of the old Games Workshop board games like Hero Quest and (like someone else mentioned) Space Hulk.

hopefully, I'll manage to find this in a store over here sometime soon... it looks like a lot of fun!
