Chris Carter's MILLENIUM TV-series has to come to DVD!!!

And I mean right friggin NOW!!! I was interested in this series when I saw a few episodes of the 3rd season on TV but a few days ago I was able to watch the pilot and the first three episodes of season one. Jesus Christ on a Crotch Rocket does this show kick ass. Definitely the grimmest stuff that was ever made for TV! Did they cut this stuff for TV or what? There is more cruelty and horror in some of the episodes than in your average R-rated film that has come out in the last few years! Why the hell did this show get cancelled? Did it go down the drain in the last season? Was it too much for people to stomach? And why is there no DVD release yet? OK, so obviously it is not The X Files (though I already prefer it to that show) but it must have a solid following ... From what I've heard the ratings were pretty good at the beginning but started to dwindle towards the end. I've already contacted Fox Home Video and asked them for a DVD release. Is there any kind of petition online for that? Any other people sharing my feelings for that show?

Yeah, they mentioned it at the recent Fox Home Video chat, posted over at thedigitalbits.com...

The guy who chatted was a huge fan, and was eager for it to happen. I think he said it'd be late '03 at the earliest. I believe it will be widescreen.

I like the show a lot, too, for the record.

Here's the quote from the chat:

[michaelsliger] Any chance of a status update for the "Millennium: Season 1" box set? Is the rumored "late 2003" release date realistic? Has any work been started to prep the episodes yet (hopefully 16x9 widescreen if that season was shot in that manner)?

[peterstaddon] That is another tv series I would love to see on DVD. The first two seasons were outstanding. I think you will see season 1 in 2003 and depending on how that sells we will release subsequent seasons. If it was filmed in 16x9 it will be released in 16x9!

Yeah...the third season was ass. The 1st two seasons were the best. The show basically ended with season 2. The excellent duo of Morgan and Wong (whom are also responsible for the excellent space above and beyond). Who basically were the only reason X-files was good. Did most of season 2 from what I can remember. They ended the show with season 2. Cause everyone thought Fox was going to cancel it after that.

Yet fox didn't and there was a season 3. Which was garbage as it fucked with some of the stuff from season 2.

Damn good show though and deserves to be on dvd. So I can get my greedy paws on it.

PEACE OUT!

Yeah, the finale of Season 2 really should have been the end. That was pretty freakin' awesome.

Well, the 3rd season had some good episodes. Mainly though, they tried to X-Filesify it (he went back to work for the FBI, they gave him a cute lady partner that doubted his conspiracy theories...). The result was pretty poor.

The main problem was that Glen Morgan and James Wong remade the show in the 2nd season. I don't think it was ever intended to be what they made it into, and while that product was the best the show was, it turned into a big mess after they left. Just too many views on the style of the show and no one with a vision to pull it through.

It was a real shame. I loved that show, mainly for the way Lance Henriksen owned every scene.

I thought I saw it on a Fox DVD release schedule a few weeks ago. I could be wrong though. It said it was filmed in widescreen and would be released that way. I loved the first season because it was so grim and depressing. Lance Hendricksen said he was depressed for four years while playing Frank Black. He said it took him a year after the show was cancelled to get out of it. It was the first time on network TV that I saw a man getting his tounge cut out. Not fit for the family hour. It got great ratings at first because of The X-files but people just want happier shows I guess. The high point of that show for me was the weird 15 minute long vision that ended season 2. No speaking, just very strange visuals, a cool song playing and a girl freaking out. I hope the first season DVD does well enough just so I can see that season 2 finale again.

Lara Means (Kristen Cloke) went insane to the tune of Patti Smith's "Horses". Quite a long scene that I recall.

Personally, I loved "The Curse of Frank Black" the most of the 2nd season stuff. That was incredibly creepy and well paced.

Edit: Now that I think of it, they did release the show on Laserdisc years ago.

Lara Means was Allllllright. We need more hot angel-seeing heroines on network TV.

Did the series come out on Laser Disc in the US? I know that all three seasons were released on Laser Disc in Japan years ago. There are actually bootlegged DVDs floating around that were transferred from the Japanese DVDs. Of course these do have giant burnt in Japanese subs and horrible audio/video quality ... Don't waste your money, wait for the official release! Take it from someone who got burned ...

I have heard of these DVDs... no, the series has not come out in its entirety on LD in the US (not even in part, to my knowledge).

I believe the only US home video releases were a couple of VHS tapes.

I just found this page, and it has some good info and pictures.

Great site, El Grey! They claim that the DVDs are not bootlegs which is, sadly, bullshit. If these were official releases they'd be available through official sites like http://www.cdjapan.co.jp (which they are not) and not just on auction sites. As anyone who has ever imported Japanese DVDs will tell you these are about three times as expensive as a US DVD! Which means that you can easily pay 50-60 $ for a single DVD. A 5 DVD set like the one that is being sold would therefore retail for roughly 300 $ ... I have actually mentioned these bootlegs to Fox Home Video in the mail I sent them. Maybe they will reply so that I can forward what they have to say about that matter. If nothing else these bootlegs prove that there is enormous interest in these episodes. Fox should take notice and put them out ASAP and in the best quality possible!

That's right, it only came out overseas that I recall. Very disappointing.

They came back from commercial.

The song played.

Kirsten had some wild visions.

The song ended.

They went back to commercial.

It was beautiful. 9 or 10 minutes of surreal images and an amazing song. I couldn't believe how excellent the show was to take chances like that. A whole act without any dialogue!

I've got a bunch of eps still on tape - the last four of season two, the Darin Morgan scripted "Somehow the Devil got behind me" and the Halloween episode where certain numbers keep reappearing to Frank. Wild. I'll have to look those up and watch them again.

Getting the series out on DVD would rock, especially since I didn't see all of the first season. And I'd like to stand up for the third season here... yes, it was a major shift from the way the show had been going. But there were still good stories being told.

Oh, I'll agree that 3 was alright...and it had its moments, but Emma Hollis was NO Laura Means, and they had already wrapped up the big conflict inside the Millennium Group (I think?)... just not as compelling anymore.

Man, I was NUTS for that Owls/Roosters stuff. That was GREAT.

I hate Illinois Nazis.

This would be a dream come true, I loved this show. New Year's eve/day of 2000 F\X ran 24 hours of episodes, which I taped, but it lacked several of my favorite episodes, namely "Luminary" and "The Curse of Frank Black," which ran on Halloween of '97 and as mentioned above was freaky as hell. To have them on DVD would be bliss.

Oh vey, when I typed in Chris Carter/Millenium and came up with this site and found out that Millenium was cancelled after 3 seasons I was supremely bummed! Yes I think we Millenium lovers ought to start a petition to have the show brought back. I don't have TV reception, and I don't want TV reception, I buy DVD's of the shows that I like and watch them at my leisure and I most assuredly would buy every season of Millenium. My youngest daughter went to Korea to visit her older sister and her sister sent back the first two seasons of Millenium because she knew I would like the show. I love the show. I am a avid X Files fan but I have to admit that the acting on Milllenium is superior to the acting on the X Files, okay Lance Hendrickson is not a gorgeous hunk of man like Duchovny but Hendrickson can literally act circles aroun Duchovny. Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Tinseltown, Millenium is totally awesome and every fan that is hooked on this terrific show heeds to speak out on behalf of the show's renewal. I almost cried when the X Files was cancelled but at least we got 9 seasons and a movie. Let's figure out a way to put the pressure on so maybe Millenium will be brought back to the screen. The drivel that TV exec's force feed us is pure garbage and I want Millenium back on the air waves. So what do you think? Hey loved the expression Jesus Christ on a crotch rocket, I like to use Jesus Christ on a crutch or Jesus Christ on a christmas tree mysellf. I'm also fond of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Tinseltown. It is an atrocitiy that Millenium has been cancelled, maybe another station would pick it up. As I already mentioned the acting is first rate opposed to the X Files, although my daughter and I are big fans of the X Files we tend to make fun of the poor acting.
