BLACK PANTHER Pre-Release Discussion - Page 29

I did say "a little enjoyment." Not talking full blown obsession or mania, here. :p

It begins!

Quote:

For two minutes, Shapiro tried to take the excitement and joy surrounding the film down a peg by not-quite-sarcastically claiming it’s been made out to be the greatest thing to happen to black people ever, even surpassing the end of slavery and the Civil Rights Movement. Since literally nobody thinks this, has ever thought this, or will ever think this, all Shapiro managed to communicate was his unironic contempt for black people.

Shapiro then criticized black America for not being satisfied with Blade and Catwoman existing (because god forbid there are more than literally two comic book movies about black people), attack black parents, AND randomly rope in Barack Obama! It makes absolutely no sense, but it is pretty entertaining watching a human version of Sylvester the Cat’s son lose his mind at black success and joy.

"Leading Conservative Thinker"

Man, that's one generous article headline.

Killmonger needs a dermatologist jeez.

Let's all watch MovieBob do that thing where he talks really fast about stuff; this time whilst plugged into both Bart and Boone's brains, so that he can talk about the current racial and political zeitgeist as well as comic book stuff.

For everyone that's like "Oh, Boone! He's so annoying, with his 'wokeness' and his 'social justice' and all of that nonsense!"

I want you to remember - it could be worse. It could be much worse:

What fuck?

That's taking concern trolling to a whole new level.

What the hell is she even trying to say? Is she anticipating not liking it? If so....why is she bothering going to see it?

I think she's talking about how black people often feel like they have to code-switch and can't be their authentic selves in the presence of white people, because of racism. These are all legitimate concerns. But to suggest that you can't share a theater - where you are sitting in the dark - with black people because you'd "Steal their black joy" with your presence is a bit much.

A bit.

This has been another installment of Boone, a fat bearded white guy, explains race.

Black joy? Jesus.

She thinks the movie takes place in Wokeanda.

She would have voted for Obama a third time if she could!

When she was talking about being the white person "sucking the black joy" for a second I thought it was a risqué parody post ... could be concern trolling, I suppose.

Wow this is Boone's woke line? Good to know there is one.

I actually am FULL of nuance, my good friend. I just sometimes take the extremely loud and incredibly woke opinion for sake of discussion.

Just bought my ticket for tomorrow, so I look forward to sucking that black joy straight out of the theater and into my heart. I will also be seeing The Shape Of Water tomorrow (as it's only just opened over here in the UK), so tomorrow has the potential to be a great day of cinema for me!

I'll be going on Saturday, but to ensure that my whiteness and the stink of colonialism that wafts about me doesn't impact other movie goers, I'll be disguised so as to minimize my black joy sucking on other attendants.

Although, I don't actually have any good disguises at home so I'll have to improvise. I guess I could just take an old bedsheet and pillow case and just cut holes for my eyes. That way I can watch the movie and everyone will be comfortable. Win-win!

Seeing Codey's post has reminded me how much I'm looking forward to Andy Serkis' performance in this movie. He just looks like he's having so much fun, and I tend to like villains who enjoy what they do. A few of the reviews I've read / watched have pointed him out as one of the MVPs, so I'm hoping he has more than one or two scenes.

Also:

Andy Serkis:
“[Director] Ryan Coogler said to me and Martin, ‘Guys, I have to tell you this, but this is the first scene I’ve directed with two white actors in it.’ That’s an incredible perspective to find yourself in.”

Going to be tough to see at night with only those little eye holes.  Better carry a torch.

He has more like five or six scenes, and he is indeed a blast.

Whew for a moment I thought you were going to go in black face.

White people should probably sit this movie out. Just like the white critics.

For real, though, I was reading some reviews today and it was pretty painful how many of them were trying to incorporate urban slang when these same critics never use that kind of verbiage otherwise.

Sometimes I really dislike white people.

Yes, I'm white.

That's sounds what a totally stupid white person with no self awareness whatsoever would do, yeah. Urban slang. Really..

I am going to see this movie in hopes that it's going to be a kickass superhero movie. Since I like all of the MCU movies, I have no doubt that that's what I am going to get. If I get a little cultural edumication in the process then even better. I could not give a shit what the character's skin color is beyond, cool there are fellow people on this planet who are excited to be represented properly on the screen.

The people going out of their way to trivialize the importance of this movie are assholes.

The PC police going out of their way to show how woke they are are assholes.

Just be a fucking normal person and go watch a cool movie.

I have no problem with anyone using urban slang. I do it all the time, it's just how I am used to talking. It's just really awkward in these reviews I am talking about. Again, these are white critics that never use this type of verbiage in their writing, and now all the sudden because they're reviewing Black Panther they're trying to sound uber-woke. It's kind of awful.

I obviously wasn't serious about white people sitting this one out. I do look forward to this thing being properly released so I can see a lot more POC opinions on the movie.

Excuse me while I try to embed a tweet.

Anyways it doesn't work.  But this guy hits the nail in the head.

https://twitter.com/Brass_addict93/status/963441495800991744

As a black man, I can assure you vehemently that your tweet was absurd. Promoting segregation and encouraging nonsensical entitlement is asinine. The movie is for whoever wants to see it whenever they want. And nobody owes us “dibs” on it. My goodness. IZA (@Brass_addict93)

Go to whatever screenshot/capture software your computer has, take a picture of the tweet, and use the image uploader in the menu. Like this!

As far as I can see, her defense has been, "it was a dumb tweet."

Ehhhh, yeah, but it showed your true colors.

And what's even more amusing is that she's literally blocking anyone who's attempting to engage with her about this, good or bad.

But she's really woke, guys.

As an appertif to "Black Panther", take a trip in the CHUD Wayback Machine and witness as I, your humble narrator, defend Marvel from charges of racism for not developing a Panther movie fast enough, predict that T'Challa would be introduced first in an Avengers sequel (I was close), then to be spun onto a solo feature when you had a bankable middle-tier black actor in place (of which I anticipated many, but should have given more thought to beyond the star, and behind the camera).

Behold!

Cute receptionist girl at work went and saw the movie last night with her AFRICAN-AMERICAN boyfriend (emphasis hers) and his friends.

Her reaction?

"It was okay. I'll wait and see what the white critics have to say."

I just nodded, glimpsed at her chest and slunk away in confusion.

Hahaha!

I know our Accounting person, who's in her early 50's and has never seen an MCU movie in the theater, is excited to see it. She's a white lesbian married to another white lesbian. I did not glimpse at her chest when she told me she'd be seeing it.
