Breath of the Wild - Page 3

This game is killing me.  Switch was a terrible purchase.  I've lost so many hours of sleep.

I hate Ancient Cores.  Ancient Cores are the worst.  I have more Giant Ancient Cores than I have normal ones.

I'm a little late to respond, but if you can I'd recommend getting the Hylian Shield and then practicing your parry technique on the laser beams the guardians send your way. The Shield is nearly indestructible, it takes hours of constant use to break it and even then you can buy a replacement so long as you've unlocked Tarrey Town.

Properly parrying a laser will send it back at the guardian and instant kill the stationary ones (and take off 1/3rd of the health of the mobile ones). The way I get ancient cores was I'd wait for a blood moon and then I'd make my way around the map to all the guardian locations, parrying lasers as I went. This is a much cheaper way of farming them than using ancient arrows.

I'd recommend first starting in the basement area of Lomei Labyrinth Island, just north of the Akkala ancient tech lab. Then move to the Central Tower in hyrule field. There are also are a bunch of guardians in the Torin Wetlands in Akkala and the area past the dueling peaks between Ash Swamp and Fort Hateno, but I tended to ignore those places because the warp points are more than a minute away and they just didn't have as dense of a concentration of guardians as the Island basement and central hyrule.

You can also cut the mobile Guardians legs off, something I was unaware of until a few weeks ago. Much more fun for me than parrying or hitting the eye with an arrow to stun them. Ran into the Horse God Fairy a few days ago. Thinking about giving Master mode a try but am far too cowardly.

For those of you who own a Wii U copy of the Breath of the Wild, but don't have a Wii U, I have some good news.  The Wii U emulator actually plays BoTW perfectly.  Just rip an archival ROM copy of BoTW (which you assuredly own) and play to your heart's content.

This has been a huge help, thank you!  I'm swatting Guardian beams all over the place now!

Also killed my first Hinox, and have been bumping them off regularly ever since.

Shot a Lynel with an ancient arrow.  It disappeared?

The Korok side-quest to get a picture of a blupee is an ass.  I ALREADY HAVE A PICTURE.  Apparently I have to take another, and the damn thing runs off before I can snap it.  The whole Hyrule Compendium thing is a bit of a waste, really.

Oh and take-all-your-stuff-island can just go to hell.

Ancient arrows vaporize any regular non-guardian enemies, the downside is that you don't get any drops from vaporized enemies so they are not very useful if you are trying to kill a Lynel for armor upgrade materials. However it still is a useful thing to know, especially if you find yourself in a situation where a Lynel is preventing you from progressing. This happened to me when doing the DLC master sword challenges, which are basically souped up versions of "take-all-your-stuff-island".

The expert level part of the challenge took all my items and threw me into a room that I had to clear of enemies to progress. There were 25 rooms total and in the second or third room I found a chest with 6 or 7 ancient arrows. A number of the later rooms in the challenge had guardians and some even had Lynels, there were way more guardians than my amount of ancient arrows could account for, but only 5 or so Lynels. I ended beating the challenge by exclusively saving the arrows to use on the Lynels instead of the guardians because they tend to do way more total damage to me than a guardian even after accounting for the fact that I miss about half of my guardian laser parries.

Again, thank you!

I tried fighting Lynels with normal weapons last night.  It did not go well.

I'm too impatient for the Yiga Hideout raid.  Keep thinking I can one-shot them in the back, because I did it one time.

Yeah, the larger enemies in the Yiga hideout seem to have way more health and deal much more damage that even some of the end game enemies, not to menetion the fact that the stealth in that part of the game felt completely arbitrary, I'd sneak close by one enemy undetected and then later that same enemy would suddenly see me from all the way across the room. The armor set that increased my stealth didn't seem to help much and I ended up getting through it by throwing bananas everywhere to create enough distractions for me to get past them.

As a side note, I started playing this game again, but this time in the master quest mode. Which adds more enemies, increases the level of existing enemies and all enemies start to regenerate health five seconds after taking damage. It's actually really fun and although I break two to three wepons trying to take out a single enemy, this weapon degradation is offset by there also being a lot more treasure chests in the world and also by getting a lot of valuable items and materials off of the enimies I kill. It's not uncommon for me to pick up a ton of monster parts as well as two rubies or sapphires from killing one of them, so while it took me forever to get the 10,000 rupees to unlock the last great fairy fountain in the base game, I had more than enough rupees to unlock all the fountains in this playthough before I had even finished my first divine beast.

I've also settled on a strategy that mitigates losing two to three weapons on every enemy I fight that also has the benefit of making the enemies deal less damage. I quickly hit any enemy I'm about to fight with a shock arrow or two as they approach and then I rush in to pick up the weapon the arrow made them drop. I then use that weapon to take off a chunk of their health before it breaks. The only thing this doesn't work on are Wizrobes, Guardians and Lynels.

I got all the memories and beat Ganon, then the game ends?  Coulda swore folks said I could go back and keep playing.  With the last cutscene though, it makes sense that you don't, but I was confused anyways.

So I guess I'll load up a pre-Ganon save and try and find all the shrines and sidequests at least.

So, I guess the Champions' Ballad is out tomorrow.  Might finally grab the season pass for this.

Also, the end of this trailer...

The Kotaku article I just read says it’s out tonight, not tomorrow.
