You think that I think that. I did not make that statement. That is a strawman. You have no credibility.

I'm rubber and you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you!

Tumor's the kind of guy who's probably watched a bunch of movies and now thinks, "This is as good as going to film school."

I would categorize The Matrix as a superficially smart action film. It uses the philosophical stuff as set dressing not to drive the story of the film forward. The story is still the classic hero's journey.

You called fight club an action movie right there. The question was "What do you consider to be a smart action movie?" By Schwartz and you listed fight club among some other, non-action movies.

I figured he'd gone back and edited that, so I didn't even bother to look.

It is a tumor.

And it's growing.

And somehow I had said something about Fight Club, that must have been the other guy.

I rewatched Reloaded because of this thread.

Few thoughts:

1. The first 20 minutes are pretty aces. Dripping with potential. I remember how stoked I was in the theater watching Neo easily take down the 3 agents and then Superman away.

2. If the W sisters want to take a page from Lucas' playbook and upgrade the CGI on said Superman scene and the Burly Brawl... I would not object.

In all, I think there's a pretty great sequel in there with just a few nips and tucks. Watching it alone and years removed from when I last watched Revolutions definitely improved its standing in my eyes.

And they are SO STILL IN THE MATRIX AT THE END JEZUS GUIYS EVEN SMITH IS WALKING AROUND IN A HUMAN BODY

No I didn't. I was responding to Schwartz who was asking me what my idea of a smart action film is. I did not state that these are action movies. I clarified quite clearly in later posts that I recognize none of these are straight action films, and the thing is neither is The Matrix. These are all examples of cross genre films. Really people?

Now if you want to say that The Matrix is more of an action film than most of those examples are, sure. Okay. I'm not going to argue against that. But what exactly is your criteria for a "smart action film" what do you mean by that? If in the sense that it is a well put together and plotted original action film sure I'll agree it's a smart action film. Die Hard is also a smart action film I would say, First Blood is, so is Predator, Aliens and Terminator 2 there are many examples, but I will not say that "smart action film" is a specific kind of thing, those are all very different movies. I would say The Matrix is smart like those movies mentioned are, but not "smart" as in a really cerebral sort of film that is more about exploring complex and interesting ideas. I think the films I mentioned can be argued to possess quantifiable and undeniable aspects of the action genre but are primarily about exploring big ideas.

So that last post you made in response to me, came right after we were having this discussion that uh turned into a grown man on the internet acting like a 15 year old and saying the equivalent of "Your opinion sucks."

Nah, this forum kinda does though. I mean what do I have hear on a guy that's been a member of the same message board for 12 years?

Well, you're welcome to leave. That's in your right. It may actually be good for you.

I have thought about that and the way I see it, since at one level human brain activity could be seen as electrical signals and Smith's thought patterns overwrote Bane's in the same way he did everyone else inside the Matrix. The main reason I have that all of it is outside the Matrix is a) that by the final scene, there's nothing to contradict it and b) OH MY GOD, THAT'S BEEN SO DONE SO MANY TIMES BEFORE IN SCIENCE FICTION. I MEAN, SURE YOU COULD DO IT AND THAT WOULD ALSO MAKE SENSE BUT PLEASE DON'T, IT'S BEEN SO, SO DONE. LIKE TOTALLY, A LOT.

On that note, let's relieve Ian Bliss as Bane as Agent Smith. He did such a good job that I really had to think about it before finally (correctly) leaning on the side that Hugo Weaving did not dub all his lines since the takeover happened.

I also like how when in the Matrix, everyone's dressed like really cool and everyone's so cool with so much swagger and so many cool moves but in the real world they all look and dress like a homeless community that lives in (and under) the subway of your choice and fight ... well, a lot less cool moves than when in the Matrix.

Agree about redoing the Burly Brawl, especially with such stuff as the bowling pins sound effects and the like at the end where it was just getting too silly.

No really? Like you had to even say it?

I took the liberty of looking up this Princess Kate. Here's what I got out of that, it's not a mystery why this place is a virtual ghost town at all.

You guys completely lack any self awareness whatsoever, perhaps too much positive reinforcement? I dunno, but uh, I am totally not shocked something like this exists on this forum:

http://www.chud.com/community/t/124146/the-princess-kate-thread

That is quite honest among the lamest things I have ever seen on the internet. In any other where they foster an opening and vibrant community where you're just there to talk discuss whatever the subject is, those guys harassing that person would have been banned permanently, no questions asked.  People still harass this person years after they've been banned in her absence and make cryptic posts about other users who express opinions about things you may or may not share (it obviously does not matter what they're expressing just that they're okay'd by you people who spend way too much time here clearly) alluding that you believe they are sock puppets of her. I do not care how annoying this person might have been this kind of shit is 100% unacceptable in the civilized world.

Fuck this place.

I mean to quote someone in the movie here, whoa! I thought some of you were just jerks, I didn't know that cyberbullying was totally an okay thing here and some of you guys talk about engaging in it like it was not just okay but actually kind of fun.

Wow that's really something.

You guys do realize anonymity isn't really a thing on the internet right? This shit stays out there.

Enjoy your empty forum guys!

You thinking this place sucks would sting a lot harder if you didn't also think Seven is an action movie.

Well ya that's what you guys do. And then someone posts anything remotely controversial that isn't even the thing you and the rest of your clique keep insisting is what they posted, and you make a thing out of it.

You're pretty stupid homie.

I'd say take a good look in the mirror, and your 14 year post history, but tis place is like a really shitty dirty dive bar that goes out of their way to not attract new customers. At first it's kind of quaint, but then sooner or later some whack job that actually just doesn't like you and should not be encouraged to keep drinking tries to make some real beef with you and so other people join in.

Not surprisingly you'll all probably keep frequenting the same place. Because this place isn't about good service and well priced drinks, it about catering to their shitty friends that disturb new costumers playing the same bullshit on karaoke every night.

This guy's left like six times tonight.

Was wondering how long it'd take for this to happen.

Seven.  Is an action movie.

Sir, you have spent three days screaming at people, and that's just if I start counting at the point where it turned into a heated argument about who understands the holographic universe model better than whom instead of the movie you made a thread to talk about.

the funny part about this is that the way they look in the matrix is meant to be partly unconscious ("residual self-image!") with their fashion choices being applied similar to a character wardrobe customization mode in a video game

for a people that are all into considering themselves free to choose... they sure all like to have an obligatory sense of what is 'cool' in terms of fashion...

The dial on my patented Kate-o-Meter 9000 was deep enough in the red after the first extended derail, but I'll bite.

It's because there are no friggin action sequences in it. That's why everyone found it such a joke when some bewildered developer tried to make a beat-em-up video game out of it.

Action movies are kind of like musicals in that they're built around sustained set pieces. A movie with someone singing a song for 30 seconds at the beginning isn't automatically a musical, and a movie where an explosion goes off and there are a couple of fights isn't automatically an action movie.

If the fights in Fight Club were full sequences and designed to be exciting in their own right, rather than fragmented little excerpts, maybe then it would be an action movie.

The Matrix is an action movie because there are like a dozen extended action set pieces in it.

I don't understand it.
Everything was done
as it was supposed to be done.
Once the One reaches the source,
the war should be over.

-In 24 hours, it will be.

-What?

If we don't do something in 24 hours,
Zion will be destroyed.

-What?
-How do you know that?

-I was told it would happen.

-By whom?

It doesn't matter. I believed him.
-That's impossible. The prophecy tells us...

-It was a lie, Morpheus.
The prophecy was a lie.
The One was never meant
to end anything.
It was all another system of control.

I don't believe that.

But you said it yourself.
How can the prophecy be true
if the war isn't over?
I'm sorry.
I know it isn't easy to hear, but...
...I swear to you it's the truth.

Ok, dude. You said something a little silly and people didn't agree and lightly called you on it and you blew your stack like a weirdo. This "dive bar" is frequented by lawyers and people who work for NASA so I'll take it any day over wherever you'd rather be. So please use your hands to masturbate wherever you're at instead of doing it in here. If you leave the basement you might even meet someone who'll do it for you. Since you seem to think you're the most original person since Adam, have a couple ribs removed. One might become a real live lady. And if that don't work out please, feel free to suck your own dick.

What I'm trying to say is go fuck your face. Or chill..

I still remember when there was a time there was some suspicion you were Kate.
