NHL 2016-2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread - Page 2

I haven't paid much attention but apparently Guy Boucher is employing his favourite 1-3-1 trap again.

THE WORST.

Does anyone remember when the Flyers played them about 5 years ago and decided to just hold the puck in their own end over and over? That had to go down as the most boring NHL game in history.

Predators-Ducks tonight (at 9pm Central . . . sheesh), and Nashville is gripped with hockey fever! Everywhere you go in Music City, women with big hair are trying to figure out the icing rule. It's pretty exciting!

Good luck, Ducks.

It's absolutely GREAT for this to be happening in Nashville.

The NHL would love a Nashville / Pittsburgh final.

Que the conspiracy theories.

Something for the Penguins fans.

Still hilarious that USA didn't bring him to the World Cup.

Nashville v Penguins would be a good series. Way too much hideous yellow though.

I was so disappointed by the Penguins I watched a rerun of The Big Bang Theory.

All is not lost, Chaz.

Penguins rebounded from that ugly 5-2 loss to the Caps and won game 7 quite handedly.

They need to keep their legs moving next game; they were caught standing still way too often in that 1st period.

I haven't given up on the Penguins; I've seen them bounce back from tough losses before.

If I didn't want to jinx the Penguins I would say they have broken the Senators.

Yep. Series isn't over yet, that's for sure, but man they are a different team playing in front of Murray.

Based on a co-worker survey, all of Nashville is hungover this morning. Congrats, Predators!

Nashville going to the final is just awesome in every way.

I love the spectacle that their marketing department has created with the constant flow of country music stars signing the national anthems. The arena is packed and crazy loud. There are crows of people outside to watch the game on screens. It's a great atmosphere.

Meanwhile in Ottawa they can barely sell out a game...
I hope Subban gets the Cup.

I can't believe that the Pens lost!

Sorry Nashville and Pens, I gotta cheer on the Canadian team.

Fuck Ottawa. It's like Devils 2.0. Go Penguins until you play Nashville.

I always leave my trash talking to a minimum until a series closes out.

Go Penguins! Win Thursday!

As of now I'm concerned about the Penguins, but I'm not in panic mode.

Even when Ottawa was good enough to play real hockey the always choked in game 7. Bettman gonna be a sad panda if Ottawa wins.

Glad the local team got in the finals, but I can't fathom the ratings of a Nashville-Ottawa Stanley Cup matchup. Bettman himself might ref during Game 7, just to make sure that doesn't happen.

If there ever were a conspiracy the Washington Capitals would have won a cup already.  Especially this year considering it looks like the Caps window may have officially been closed.

The refs can call penalties all day but if Anderson stops every shot there's nothing the league can do to control that.

An Ottawa - Nashville series would be low ratings for sure, but if there are two teams that desperately need to be in the finals it's Ottawa and Nashville.  Nashville for finally having some success and getting that franchise on the map, and Ottawa because nobody goes to the games and Eugune Melynk is probably on the horn with Bettman every day about his lack of profit.

Fuck Melnyk. I hope Crosby slashes Methot's thumb off and mails it to that loudmouth.

How a Canadian team fails to sell out a third round do or die game... Unreal. Melnyk should ask Gary to magically make Toronto good, at least when they are embarrassing Ottawa in the playoffs their fans show up to fill the place.

You'll hear complaints like "it's too far away and the traffic is bad" but Leafs and Rangers fans have no problem getting to their arenas.

The real problem is they play a slow tempo style designed to bore opponents to death to make up for a lack of skill. Nobody likes to see that. I really don't think Nashville fans are prepared for what they could be in for.

Cheering for the Sens are you saying "boo" or "boo-ring"????

As soon as Kunitz scored I dropped to my knees and screamed YES! I had a good feeling the Pens would score when I saw Crosby hit the ice with a ton of energy.

After Kessel hit the crossbar I was worried that could come back to haunt them. Thank God that didn't happen.

Both overtimes I was constantly switching between confidence and nerviness.

Pittsburgh is notorious for bad traffic and pot holes and the Pens having been selling out since Crosby's rookie year.

Loser of the finals should have to drop yellow from their jerseys.

I love the yellow Pittsburgh has brought back to their jerseys. I especially love this years new all yellow alternate jersey.

Plus there is synergy between all of Pittsburgh's sports franchises with the colours.

I never liked the Vegas gold they used through the majority of the 00s. Very much a colour of its time period, but not timeless.

I'm be fine iwith the alternate jerseys became the home one. I'm glad they lost the blue alternate jersey.

The 2011 Winter Classic jersey was cursed!  I have a Crosby one.  I'm afraid of destroying it and unleashing the evil contained within.

Crosby suffered that first concussion that almost ended his career the first time they worse those jerseys.

Jordan Staal took a stick to the face while he was just sitting on the bench, and on another occasion had a bad leg injury while wearing it.

My wife wore it to game 1 of the 2012 series against Philadelphia.  Penguins were up 3-0 and lost 4-3.  Damn Daniel Briere.  Remember him?!?!? That series was a tragedy.  I remember exactly where I was for every game.  You always remember the most traumatic events.

Malkin was concussed wearing it.

After that last one they never wore it again.

I love these jerseys.  The only improvement I can think of is a black helmet.

Good luck to the Predators tonight. A series of text message-based anecdotal evidence tells me the entire county is already pretty drunk.

They should probably keep getting drunk.

How I wish I was getting drunk in Nashville tonight.

Oh my god. Blow a 3-0 lead.

Held to zero shots for 37 minutes through two periods.

Take a 4-3 lead when they finally get a shot.

Empty netter it's over.

I can't believe we won this game.

However, it doesn't matter how many shots you get on net, it's how many of those shots are goals.

This is exactly what a game between the best offense in the playoffs against the best defense in the playoffs would look. Nashville held Pittsburgh to barely any shots, but Pittsburgh's skill still won the game.

I'm sure Sullivan will make the right adjustments for the next game and the Penguins will appear to play a better game.

BTW the Ducks outshot the Predators 41-18 in game 6 of the WCF. The Predators won 6-3.

Shots on goal doesn't matter. What matters is shots in goal.

3 more wins to go!

Whew, that was a helluva game. I think Nashville may need to adjust its collective drinking accordingly, because this team is never out of it.

Even though it was Memorial Day I was never more than slightly buzzed the entire game. I hope the Penguins realize they got lucky this time and make the adjustments so they don't blow another lead like that again. That was a Hell of a goal by Guentzel.

On the bright side I don't think it's possible for the Penguins to play a worse game than that.

And that was a win.

Sullivan held an optional skate, that most of the team attended. Before that they watched a lot of tape.

HOLY HELL! Looks like I can go ahead and turn in early. Congrats to Pittsburgh.

Its a damn good thing that Murray stood on his head in the second period.  Just two wins away!

Sullivan's Penguins don't implode very often.

Rinne has historically had a terrible time against Pittsburgh.

With 12 goals and 19 points, Guentzel is entering the Conn Smythe conversation. A rookie!

If Nashville doesn't even the series up at home this one is done.

Not enough is said about the Penguins resilience. Battered and bruised after a deep cup run last year, the World Cup, and another deep run this year. But you won't hear Sullivan or any of the players say that. Just win. That's all they care about.

GO PENGUINS!
