I threw together some final thoughts on the Lucky Whitehead situation, if anyone's interested.

I had completely forgotten that he was the same guy who had his dog stolen a couple of weeks ago. Strange.

Agree with your take on the Cowboys. They acted based on the info they had, and Whitehead isn't a star, so he's going to get cut. Garrett came off as such a douche during that press conference, though.

Also, Drew Magary's Why Your Team Sucks series has begun with? Le Browns.

Yeah, I know! Getting the fuck out of Texas* is the best thing for the guy; I'd hate to see what would happen next if he stayed.

As for Garrett, he's no Belichick. He can't really get away with repeating himself and shutting down the press like Bill does. But at the same time, the media wouldn't let it go and he probably wasn't authorized to make any further statement

*Texas itself is great. I've loved my visits to Dallas, but I don't keep the type of company Lucky has. Kid's private life was probably going to get him cut eventually.

Would it have been so hard for Garrett to wish Whitehead luck in his future NFL endeavors and wish that the situation had gone differently?  I guess so.

Very excited about WYTS.  I care more about that than the actual season.

He kind of did. But he also stated that the team knows more about their players than the media does. The red flag for me is that the guy who was arrested for the theft pinned on Lucky had Lucky's social security number. That's some weird shit.

The Cowboys were in the right to cut him loose and save themselves any further incidents with him. I think Garrett's dickishness comes in part from being fed up with Lucky and being over it by the time the media got to him.

Around the time the Zeke Elliott charges were dropped somebody posted a link to this article about Dallas' fixer - https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/when-the-dallas-cowboys-have-a-problem-this-is-the-man-who-makes-it-go-away/2016/09/30/a7bdeaf0-84e8-11e6-92c2-14b64f3d453f_story.html?utm_term=.2ffe4bf294c9

Great to have this back.  From the fan comments section of the article:

"This is how I watched my Browns last year: Turn on the TV.  Wait until the other team scores a Touchdown (usually the opening possession).  Turn off the TV and go do literally anything else.  Did I ever once consider during the times I turned my TV off that maybe I should turn it back on and see if we made the game competitive? Nope, and it never fucking happened."

I feel for the Browns fans.  I hope I can see the day when the team does well.  Not going all the way with a SuperBowl win, just not being flat out terrible.  I watch them from afar, like one would watch a person with leprosy.  You wish them well but you don't want to get too close.

Oh gaaaaaawd, this twitter thread:

That's damn funny. I think the Jags are on the cusp, though! Their defense should be decent this year, and Fournette should be good if he can keep that ankle intact.

Stop it.

Also funny that the very first gif in the ESPN story about the twitter feed is from the biggest fan site runner the Jags have.

Holy fuck, we finally did it. The Youtube channel is up and running. First one is NFL-centric.

Branden Albert was traded to the Jags in the offseason . . . annnnnnd retired today.

I, too, shed a tear at all the great memories Branden Albert brought the Jags.

Looks like I picked the wrong NFL season to stop drinking.

Today's WYTS on the Bears has educated on Mike Glennon's neck situation.  Like.  That's a lot of neck for human.

There's no room left in Gillette Stadium for the Patriots' new Super Bowl banner.

It's time to seriously reconsider reworking the divisions. They're guaranteed to win the AFC East virtually ever year, and they've probably got the 2017-18 division champs banner already commissioned.

We've had some on this very board come up with a reshuffling of the divisions that I thought worked out pretty well. But I don't see the NFL making any major changes in large part based on tradition. Love them or hate the Cowboys/Giants/Redskins/Eagles games are often some of the most entertaining games of the year and that's almost entirely because they're division rivals. Same thing with Packers/Lions/Bears/Vikings.

I'm not sure how you'd go about doing a complete reworking of the divisions, unless they're all completely based on geography. I do agree with you that the AFC East is a cake walk for NE. It's amazing how none of the other 3 teams in that division have been able to find a franchise QB in the Belichick/Brady era.

BLAINE GABBERT DA GOAT. COWBOYS GOING 0-16 THIS YEAR.
Arizona's special teams is still a dumpster fire. And these guys playing now are going to be bubble players and rookies looking to pull double duty to make the squad.

But still no one sees that a key problem is the ST coach, Amos.

Whoever that fucking kicker is, he's gone. We'll have Phil Dawson and a punter, and we'll be fucked if either get hurt.

Andre Ellington won't make the team, and maybe he'll finally float on to another instead of lingering in Arizona any longer.

And god dammit... I was impressed with Gabbert.

Where's Fassel's kid? Did he go somewhere else?

And don't you get sucked in by the interplanetary sensation BG...he'll just break your heart.

"Hey babe, watch the kid, I gotta go make 10 mil. PFFFFT, whatever" (smokes)

I accidentally replied to last year's thread about it, but yeah, I'm pretty excited. Go Dolphins.

Branden Albert has decided to unretire. Jaguars say FU, putting him on the reserved/retired list.

I'm with Jacksonville on this. Albert was a dick about the trade, and refused to show up for anything but the mandatory training camp. Three days in, he said fuck it and quit.

But then he realized he'll owe Jacksonville $3.4 million from his signing bonus with Miami, so he quickly changed his mind and decided he didn't want to retire. JAX said "No, fuck you - we'd rather take your money."

Yup. Good for them.

I think the Jags made the right decision, BUT he's no longer on the hook for 3.4 mil AND he makes close to 9 mil this season. What a dick.

While he was on the Dolphins he was a good mentor to the younger guys, but it was very obvious he didn't really want to play anymore. Any little thing would keep him out multiple weeks, and don't even think about asking him to come to camp. He was a great player, but he's over it.

Marvin Lewis not at Bengals practice today... Supposedly an update coming after practice.

Health issues keeping Lewis out. ST coach Darrin Simmons taking over until he can return.

So people are going nuts over Kizer's debut. It's preseason and it means nothing, but at least people are posting mean things about shitty-ass Brian Kelly on Twitter. God that dude sucks.

I saw his half of play at the gym. It wasn't anything amazing, but it was probably the best qb play I've seen from a Brown since uhhhhh...that one weird Derek Anderson season. Maybe Hoyer, if I'm being generous.

Also, and I say this as a Saints fan, he was playing against the Saints defense.  I think that unit should be improved this year, but traditionally we're built to make bad QBs look like Joe Montana.

Fair enough, although Osweiler and Kessler still both played like shit against that defense, so it has its limits.

Six game suspension for Zeke Elliott. Holy shit.

He's expected to appeal.

Bills just traded Sammy Watkins to the Rams. Whoa!

EDIT: And they also just picked up Jordan Matthews from the Eagles.

Jesus! What month is this??

So I guess I shouldn't count on Tyrod Taylor being a sleeper fantasy pick this year.

And now the Bills have 2 picks in each of the first three rounds for 2018 draft.
Game 5 is against the Packers.

I predict Elliot's suspension will be reduced to four games.

So... their plan is to drop a wide receiver with a high yardage after reception for a wide receiver that can't catch.

Nice.

Poor Sammy Watkins. From one dumpster fire offense to another. I hope sometime late in his career he gets to sign with a team that has an actual QB and has a Randy-Moss-In-NE type of season to close out his career.

Leonard Fournette just invited every linebacker trying to make a team to knock his block off over the next three weeks.

Amidst all the controversy around Zeke Elliot and all the Bills trades, WaPo decided to pull the "DAE 'member Kaepernick?!?!?" card?

Basically, fuck that writer and everyone else who keeps dragging out the body of that "story".

I don't think Kaepernick is great. But there is no world where he is a worse choice than, say, dragging Jay Cutler out of retirement.

There's also this article on Fivethirtyeight showing how rare it is for a QB of Kaepernick's talent level to be unemployed:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/colin-kaepernick-is-not-supposed-to-be-unemployed/
post #100 of 1047
Bringing Cutler out of retirement makes more sense because he's at least some sort of game manager and has history with Adam Gase (who probably vouched for him). He's a veteran presence on the field. A stop-gap.

Kaep doesn't have any of those advantages.
