Friday the 13th: The Game

No, not the NES classic where you throw rocks at a purple Jason...

Are any Chewers playing the new Friday the 13th game at all?  I picked it up on PS4 last week, only to find that you NEED a PSPlus account to play online... and it's ONLY an online game.  So now I've got it on Steam instead.

The game is buggy. Jason is way overpowered. It's only online multiplayer when the netcode isn't particularly well done. Some of the controls aren't intuitive (to me at least), and so on.... but as a guy who grew up watching all of these films, it's a blast once the game is actually started.  They have the licence and take full advantage of it, using the actual scores from the movies and the infamous "ki-ki-ki...ma-ma-ma" stingers.  The closer Jason is to your character, the more intense the score gets.  It can actually get pretty intense!

Kane Hodder did the mo-cap for Jason. They got Thom Matthews to voice Tommy Jarvis in his cameos. They have multiple Jason's from the different sequels, each with their own perks and cons to exploit (i.e. Bag Head Jason from Part II can run, but he's easier to hurt) and a ton of different Jason kills.

I suck at it, of course.  I don't do online play much, and when I do I prefer to learn the mechanics in single player mode first. That's not an option here, sadly.  The devs aren't ruling out adding single player in a future patch, so fingers crossed!

Anyway, if anyone has this on Steam and sees ashdust getting curb-stomped by Savini-Jason, feel free to lend a hand. :D

All I know is this review makes it basically a must play come October for me.

Assuming they fix all the bugs by then.

All I know is I'm going to beat you to death while you hide in a sleeping bag, Jacob!  Jason X ftw!

I haven't watched that video but I've heard SO MANY bad things about the bugs and matchmaking system in this game. As someone who excitedly snapped up Dead By Daylight (which had a similar premise) and is a casual fan of Friday The 13th, I would have been the ideal target for this game but the feedback has made me stay as far away from it as possible.

That was my initial stance, too... except I never played Dead by Daylight (gotta check that out sometime!)

Really though, if this ever gets a decent Steam discount it's worth checking out.  $40 is a bit steep for what's essentially an early access game admittedly..  but in the few short hours I've played it, I feel I've gotten $40 worth of fun.

Finally picked this up and while it is flawed as hell, it's also a lot of fun.

And I just unlocked Part 2 Jason the other night.

I just downloaded the Part V update (complete with Roy Burns Jason and Pinehurst Youth Development map).

My wishlist for this map:

-You can find Demon's van (complete with enchiladas)

-If you die, Ethel calls you a big dildo.

-Jason's shack doesn't have Mrs. Voorhees' head but Joey's dead body surrounded by chocolate bars.

Fingers crossed!

Have you tried out the Virtual Cabin yet?

I've completed the Virtual Cabin. If you haven't, I won't spoil anything but there are some cool surprises.

I did. Loved it! When I started it I thought it was just a virtual tour, until I started poking around.

The basement with all of the Jasons is legitimately creepy.

As for the Roy Burns/ Part V update:

I love how expansive the map is. And there are some cool easter eggs in Violet's and Tommy's bedrooms. One section of the map is called "Reckless Canyon", which is a nice tribute to Reggie. If I have any complaints, I would have liked to have seen Junior and Ethel's house, as well as the camp Demon stayed at but those are minor quibbles.

Roy has some of the best kills in the game but I'll probably be sticking with Part VIII Jason. His ability to break down doors is just too good to give up. And that shot of Roy/Jason walking away when the match ends is one of the eeriest things in the game.

Overall, it's a great update.

To update my earlier post, Junior and Ethel's house is in the game. It's located in Reckless Canyon.  In the kitchen you'll find a skinned chicken and Ethel's stew pot, which allows for this environmental kill (a bit dark but you get the idea):

I love this game more with each update.

Dammit, I gotta try it out. I still haven’t even found a single Pamela tape!

I've found eight Pamela tapes and only one Tommy tape but I would argue it's the most important tape in the game because it reveals

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
that Gordon survived!

Does anybody else think that the trophies for this game kind of suck?

I was the only survivor in two separate matches last night (escaped in the car during one match and got away with the boat in the other) but there's no "Final Girl" trophy. There isn't even a badge for it.
