Destiny 2 - Page 8

Destiny is a treadmill and you have to trade money for the ability to keep running.

There are pros and cons to this approach.

It's funny how they insist it isn't an MMO and then, alongside quest givers and levels, dungeons strikes and raids, and a reliance on acquiring loot to make your character better / prettier, they sell expansions to their built-in customer base with the promise of more story and even better loot

But it's not an MMO.

Because in MMOs you can at least communicate with other players.

It's a Shared World Shooter.

Ya'll don't communicate when you play this game?

You can do a silly emote at someone.

Okay, a few missions ago I picked up these exotic-level gauntlets which are awesome. Not only do they look awesome because they're all glowy and pointy - LOOK AT THEM:

2017_10_30_1.png

but they also electrocute anyone I punch. Which, again, is awesome. I'm a Titan so I punch a lot.

The only issue is they're starting to get outshone by the newer loot I'm encountering, when it comes to raw statistics. Perhaps this is a stupid question but is there any way of moving that electric-punch power to another set of gauntlets? I'm guessing that there probably isn't but wanted to double check.

What are you guys using to take screenshots?

I play in Windowed Fullscreen, so just use my Print Screen button to send it straight to my Screenshot folder. There might be an internal way of doing it, but I don't know how.

Boy have I got some bad news for you....

But seriously, you can infuse higher level gear into any purples and yellows that you want to keep.  Say those gauntlets are 120, that means, for Exotics only, that the base of those arms is 115 with a purple +5 mod on it. If they were purple arms they would be base level 120 with no or a blue mod on them. As long as you find blue arms that are 116 and above you can hover over one of the boxes on the stat page for the armor and "infuse" that higher gear into the lower, again with exotics. Purples would have to be 121 in this scenario but that extends to all power levels.

So, find something bigger and use it to increase the power on those and same with other gear.  But always keep a set of purple gear of the same kind, helmet, chest, etc, so you can swap if you want to wear a different Exotic as you can only equip one at a time.

Ah, okay! Thanks for the info!

This will cost you glimmer and legendary shards so make sure the jump is meaningful when you do it until you have enough shards to not care.
Yeah, I kept trying to infuse gear and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. Then I saw it cost shards to do. Did the first Destiny charge you shards to infuse? I don't remember that it did.

It's been so long since I played D1 that Dave will have to answer that. It was probably worse because D1 had more mats and currencies than a rug shop and a bank exchange.

I was dicking around with alternate characters last night. And realized you share Vault space across all your characters. So you can store a couple of extra Sparrows you pick up through your main's campaign in there and then you can start your secondary and tertiary characters with a swanky jetbike from the get-go.

Also found Xur hiding in a cave on Io and looted his box of scraps for an Actium War Rig and a Knucklehead Radar for my future Punchy Man and Cape Boy characters.

Now if only I can find a Skull of Dire Ahamkara to complete my Space Wizard's look I'll be happy.

Pro Tip: If you have multiple characters when Xur comes around always buy his wares with your highest power toon as the power level will scale to who you bring, e.g if you are 250 then the gear he sells will be 250+, if you bring your LvL 8 119 then you'll be buying 125 gear.

Good to know thanks!

While I have you, how the devil does a person get to 309 Power? I've got my Warlock to 267 right now and I'm just not finding gear to bump that up.

305 is the current Max, which I assume you meant. Milestones will be the best way to increase power unless you're in for a long Public Event grind. If you're at 267 you can do one of two things:

1) Start your Blue Crown planet quests for Exotics which will boost you slightly. Since today is reset day all your Milestones will appear again and if done right you should easily be 285 by end of week. Do one Milestone, go do an exotic quest and some PEs, level a bit, then go complete another Milestone, another quest, some PEs, etc.

2) Depending on how grindy you want to get you can follow Dave's advice above which is to create your second character as the same class as your first, so two Hunters, two Titans, etc. If you kept all your original white gear, equip it and put all your purples into the vault AFTER doing the Milestones mentioned above. If not, sink some glimmer into NPC greens. Then grind your second toon to 20(recommend Crucible and PEs, finish story later) so you can equip gear from Vault and voila you can run all the Milestones again. This should bring you right to the 300 mark I would say if done right.

The way things are set up you'll be soft capped each week for about 3-4 weeks to get to 305 depending on how smart you about leveling.

Option 1 sounds more fun. I'll do that, thanks.

I'd start with the EDZ Blue Crown quest as I believe that is the MIDA, top tier scout rifle.

Already have the MIDA :p Got the quest from Banshee-44 in the Tower and knocked it off while doing Ikora's Meditations. Finished all the Blue Crowns and adventures in the EDZ. Am on Io now and will knock those out before moving on to Nessus and then Titan.

I wish Bungie would have woven the Orange Adventures into the campaign as mandatory instead of optional. The lore and story they offer are top notch for understanding and some of them are harder than Campaign missions especially if done solo.

I think having made them mandatory would have made the PC crowd more amenable to the grind of the game.

I'm doing all of the orange missions before moving on, as recommended by this thread. Am happy to do it, as I enjoy the game's combat and exploring the environments, and also because it means I'm not finishing the campaign too soon. Fair play to those who rushed through it but I'm enjoying playing it over a longer amount of time. I think I'm just over half way now.

Yeah, I always do the side quests in games (and that's what they are) so doing them was always on the table for me and I don't really consider them a grind.

I just think Destiny could quiet their detractors some by approaching a halfway Elder Scrolls-type length to the campaign. Currently the Campaign, same as in D1, is about 10 hours in length. I have seen people speed it to 4 hours. I don't think Destiny would benefit from a 60 hour ESO campaign but if AC:Origins can approach 15 hours on a quick play through with an average 30 hour campaign I think Destiny should clock in at a 12-15 hour minimum going through everything as fast as you can.

Yeeesh. Only if its strictly optional, or if they calibrate it for co-op. I rather liked the approach in D1, where you could just ignore the campaign if you so choose, because it wasn't that great. I enjoyed the campaign in D2 even less, and it being all but mandatory really grinded my gears.

The Tuesday reset grind (which isn't a huge grind) is to structure your "Powerful Gear" drops.  Two A bunch of notes...

1) Those drops will always take into account your power level.  Don't go open them until you have maxed your power level with your gear.  They should give you two drops per Powerful Gear engram.  If you accomplish a powerful gear milestone, you can let it sit at the vendor/guide until you have pulled your blues/purples to where they cannot drop any higher.  Once you NEED "powerful gear" to progress further (i.e. you are 275, and all of your blues/purples are 266 or 267, plus the really high exotic or PG drop from last week), go open the next PG up, and see how much it moves the needle.  If you want, you can then grind a new set of blues/purples (which should drop as many points higher as YOU went up with your most recent powerful gear drop) via public events, story missions, quests, crucible, etc.  The PGs act as little grappling hooks, and then you grind in-between those drops.  If you want, since that takes extra time (especially if that isn't fun for you).  Alternately, you can just get as many PG drops as allowed in short order, just up a few levels, and then do the blue/purple grind once, but you won't go up as much in a single week as your PG drops occurred with you around the same level.

PG drops are as follows:

Call to Arms (5-6 crucible matches)

Flashpoint (public events, lost sectors on planet: ~30-45 min)

Nightfall

And the Clan engrams (from Suraya):

Clan XP (5000 XP - you'll get this just doing the Flashpoints and Crucible matches)

Crucible (Crucible win, with at least two clan members playing together)

Nightfall (at least two clan members have completed a Nightfall - this is separate from the NF drop above, which YOU get for running it yourself)

Raid also has powerful gear drops (maybe) at each stage - there is also a Raid Clan engram (once at least 3 members of your clan complete the final raid encounter together, of the 6 it takes)

Trials wins have the same PG drops, but this is a fool's paradise unless you have significant crucible skill or time to practice - there is also a Trials Clan Engram (7 wins on one card for a clan member)

As you can see, some of these overlap.  Do Flashpoint for the 1st PG drop, then play Crucible towards Call to Arms, getting blue/purple drops on the way to the 2nd PG.  If you can play Crucible with a clan buddy and get a win, then there is a third PG.  Run the NF with a buddy, and there is 4 and 5.  If you get several, you can spread out picking them up.

2) 8 points (3 from Kinetic, Energy, and Power weapons; 5 from Helmet, Arms, Chest, Legs, Cloak/Bond/Mark) make up one power level.  So if you are at 275.5 (hover over your power level, and you will see a bar showing how close to the next level you are), then you only need four more points to hit 276.  Those can come from two drops of gear 2 points higher than your highest gear of that type, or an Exotic drop 4+ points higher than your highest gear of that type.  Check the math when making big choices (PG choices or grind choices).

3) You'll know when you hit "peak" blue/purple - everything you have is at the same level, and everything that drops is dropping at that level.

4) The game won't read multiple exotic armors or weapons to calculate your power level.  If your best two exotic weapons are 280 (kinetic) and 281 (energy), but your best legendary/blue kinetic is a 274...it will read the 274 and 281.  Exotics ALL come with a Legendary Mod equipped, which adds +5 to the level.  Some Legendaries will have a Legendary Mod as well, but that is random, so check before you infuse out of or into a Legendary weapon.  If you infuse an Exotic into a Legendary (which is okay, you have an Exotic kiosk in the Vault - you can always can another copy of the exotic later, at a lower initial power level), you will lose those 5 points unless you are infusing into something that ALSO has a legendary mod.  The key to infusing is to maximize your levels across all three weapons and armors.  You don't have to use that stuff, just have it on you.

5) At 280 power, you can get weapon/armor mods, which will boost you a few points right away and give you some flexibility in how you play (not much, but some).  We can explain that later.

Probably because the Voidwall lasts for-fucking-ever, and that calculation is assuming you're just posted up in the middle of it, enjoying the purple rain.

I am glad the Lighthouse will be open as a social space.  From the videos, it was a lovely space, so everyone getting to explore it (which the PvP map Altar of Fire is heavily built on) is a nice feature.  It won't quite have the solitude it had in D1, though, with 56 people playing bocce ball or whatever.  But still, cool beans.

Speaking of Adventures, I did the Arecibo one on Io today. Where you have to "follow the music". What a wonderful and creepy mission that was. Also, I'm pretty sure its setup for the second DLC...

Between the time when Destiny 1 was released, and the Rise of Iron in the third year, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this, Oryx, destined to wear the crown of the Dreadnaught upon a troubled brow. It is I, his perpetual killer, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!

The golden age of Destiny was the release of The Taken King, the third (and largest) DLC drop for the first game.  It was magnificent, introducing several new linked missions, a few awesome strikes, and incredible new patrol area with tons of secrets, and bunch of missions AFTER you beat the main campaign; all of this plus a ton of QoL changes, infusion (in a shittier version than today, but much better than the previous option of NO infusion whatsoever), and our three new subclasses.  There were new swords, exotic weapon quests, and skullduggery everywhere.

There was a post-campaign mission in Taken Kingwhere you had to head into the Dreadnaught (Hive/Taken warship, which you see inside of Saturn's rings during the final victory CG movie of the game), inside of the crashed Cabal ship, in order to investigate (and stop) a signal.  In the end, you stop it, but are too late.  The Cabal are successful in sending out their signal to deep parts of space.  Which leads directly to D2.  Those DVets probably played that mission for the first time every bit of 25 months ago.  I do like it when Bungie strings some of the stuff together.

After doing my favorite mission so-far on Titan, last evening saw me face my least-favorite mission on Nessus. I'm going to start by saying that I love the planet itself as it looks really cool, and the Vex are kind of interesting. I believe they're the main enemy in the upcoming DLC so I look forward to learning more about them.

I hated "Unbreakable", though. The final fight

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
- where you have to run through pillars of energy so you can have fifteen seconds of being able to destroy an otherwise indestructable shield around a boss, just so you can then take down another shield around a generator, and you have to do it three times -

drove me kind of crazy. Admittedly, it was the end of a very long day for me and I kind of wanted to go bed, so it annoyed me more than it might have done normally, but - because fifteen seconds was often not long enough - it took me SO DAMNED LONG.

I had to look this up because I didn't recall it. I see that it was an Adventure. Like I said, the Adventures needed to be added to the Campaign because some of them were more intense and difficult than story missions.

Solo-ing Heroic Events? I don't recommend!

At least I've finished most of my milestones for the week so far, got Cayde's Stashes on Io and the EDZ, got my 5000xp for the Clan and bumped up to 270. I'll do some Strikes and the Crucible tomorrow. Guided Games Beta for the Raid is out but I'll wait on that cause I want to experience the Raid fresh with you lot.

Might take a wee break this weekend and take Wolfenstein 2 for a spin.

By the by, sometime during the campaign, you're gonna get a choice between 3 Exotic weapons; the Graviton Lance, the Riskrunner and the Sunshot.

Take the Sunshot. Trust me. I call it the Fun Gun. If I wasn't using the MIDA I'd still be running that.

I still need to beat the main story before I can raid.  I have one Adventure left on Io, then on to the final missions.  But since the wife will be wanting to finish up Stranger Things tonight and tomorrow, I won't be touching Destiny until at least Friday.

Finish that campaign! Second to last mission is my absolute favourite so far. And the final one is almost just as great.
