The last missions really are pretty great. Final boss fight notwithstanding.
We got a PVP group going?
That's good to know as I'm really enjoying the campaign. I've seen all of the criticisms people have made (and the lone hero thing doesn't really work when you've got public events filled with Guardians leaping around), and the lore is certainly batshit crazy in places, but a lot of it reminds me why I fell in love with Halo all of those years ago. Bungie may not be able to write high-brow science fiction, but they know how to write Star Wars-esque nonsense filled with mystical forces and weird shit. And I kind of like that.
Nope. That was one of the biggest gripes of the first and they made sure to steer the hell away from that this time.
There are slideouts if you look at Exotic gear that provide some story and lore as well as throughout the game world you will happen upon objects that shimmer and give you an Investigate prompt. Those are often full of D1 callback stories. There are a bunch of little things like this in the Tower as well.
Oof, almost gave me a heart attack there.
Nah, Cypher-21 is still there. What happened was I logged into the Europe servers to try out Crucible on account of me not finding games in the Americas. And I've noticed switching between the two makes nothing from the other show up.
Finally reached max level* and spoke to Zavala at The Farm to unlock Strikes. According to the Wiki, I've got eight more Red War missions left.
* So we still continue to level up, only we get these loot boxes now that the woman at The Farm unlocks, right?
Yes. Each level up past 20 awards Eververse cosmetics and other stuff.
Well, I guess the glass half full way of looking at it is at least we get something for our XP. Hopefully I'll get a nice armor piece or whatever.
Just experienced my new favorite part of the game:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
That Almighty mission is great and is probably the closest that this game has come to feeling like Halo for me. The sequence where you're running through the sunstorm, using the shadows to stay alive as the music swells? Just awesome.
Looked great too.
Yeah, even my jaded ass was impressed with that mission.
As far as armor pieces don't get too hyped. First of all the Eververse armor(Optimacy) drops at power 10 so MUST be infused. Second the Warlock has the best looking set, Titan next and the Hunter is fugly.
So unless you were smart and rolled one of the first two you may need to temper that excitement. However, just from playing and receiving Bright Dust in Bright Engrams I have completed both a Warlock and Titan set. So it is conceivable to do so without paying actual money for it. However, grind your ass off between now and 12/5 because it appears the armor Tess sells will change each season and you won't necessarily be able to get the Optimacy set ever again.
Scoop is actually home this weekend, and he's joined our clan. He's just running through the solo stuff tonight, he and I will try 2-player co-op tomorrow. I'm starting a new Warlock to go with his Titan. He's digging the game so far.
The more people I have to run Strikes with, the better! I need to start organizing those soon because, judging by the Beta, those are probably the most fun activity in the game.
Talking of 2-player co-op, I ended up unintentionally teaming up with another guy during an Adventure yesterday and discovered how useful the Sentinel's ability to put down a barrier is, when you're on a crowded battlefield trying to revive someone under heavy fire. You know what else is great about the Titan? Imagine this: I'm in a boss fight and have taken out all of the minions, and the big bad is down to almost no health. I time a jump wrong, get hit by his guns and my shields are now almost all the way down. He's running toward me, I'm in the middle of reloading and I'm seconds away from having to restart this entire thing again, SO I PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE. And he falls to his knees and topples over.
Probably the most satisfying end to a battle I've had so far in Destiny 2.
Just bought it yesterday and started playing it this morning on my XBOX1. After 3.5 hours. got myself up to a lvl 6 Warlock. Goddamn, this is a beautiful looking game, and it handles much better that the first. I'm enjoying the Pariah weapon greatly.
Some of these "adventure" quests on the third planet are a pain in the ass solo. Level 19, not gonna continue the war missions until I clear out the adventures in the current zone. Still haven't teamed up with Scoop yet for the beginner stuff, he's been in sour football mode watching the Falcons lose.
I've already documented it in this thread so I won't go into it again, but there's an adventure on that planet called "Unbreakable" which was an absolute nightmare for me.
As much as I dislike loot boxes in games, I'm not going to complain about Destiny 2 giving me one every time I fill up that experience bar.... especially as I FINALLY got a new ship out of my latest one. I've been flying around the universe in that battered starting ship, so it's nice to have something different.
That was the one I did last night. I've always found boss fights kinda tedious in general, and even moreso when they're just lazy "repeat these same steps three times to proceed" kind.
Ok, I do have some beef with this game.
Strikes should NOT be randomized. Ruins immersion. And if I were to go on my own experience with this game, you'd swear there were only the Exodus Crash and Inverted Spire Strikes to play. Cause that's ALL I've been getting.
And WTF with throwing me solo into the Nightfall?! I mean, I'm good but I'm not that good. So I guess that Milestone's a wash.
Yeah once the rest of you guys in the Clan have caught up we can run it together. Should be much more palatable. Same with the Strike playlist.
Ah well, gives me time to level my Titan and finish Wolfenstein 2.
I have SO MANY shaders now. They can only be used once, right? I remember hearing that somewhere. Makes me not want to use any of them until I have a full set of gear I'm going to stick with. Such an odd decision to make in a loot-based game where you're currently updating your gear.
Strikes were developed by Bungie, the campaign - outside of maybe the last couple missions - were handled by the outside studios. I imagine integrating those two workflows would have been a nightmare.
Finished the main Red War campaign today. Whilst the ending was satisfying, and suitably "epic", it's odd that I completed the final battle without dying once whilst there have been some minor bosses during Adventures that have really taxed me. Still, really looking forward to the next campaign update and seeing what comes next, as well as getting stuck into Patrols, Raids and Strikes now. I'm only at 219 Power so I've got a fair bit to do in order to raise mai awesomeness.
Oh and I picked up this awesome Exotic piece which contains an animated flame aura, thereby turning me into a walking fireplace. I'm not sure how this works (am I literally burning alive inside that armor?!) but it looks cool. And that's all that really matters in the end.
I was absolutely blown away by the endgame social space when I first stepped into it. Especially coming from D1, shit was powerful.
Campaign endboss is a joke and has no meaningful mechanics. Like I said, different development teams did different things, and you can start to tell who did what by the specific amount of thought that goes into the mechanics.
On that note, is it the Live Team who are behind all future DLC? I remember people talking about how The Taken King changed everything for the original Destiny, and I'm sure I read that the Live Team was responsible for that update.
In D1, the first two xpacs were the main team, as they were really just extensions of the core game. Then the Live Team took over with the Y2 refresh in TTK.
I would imagine things this time would be similar, although Live Team is hopefully working of QoL improvements already.
Although now that you bring it up, I wonder if Bungie is doing the campaign stuff for the first two expansion packs or if that's still being farmed out?
Finally did some Crucible tonight. Shit was intense, but super fun. Definitely wouldn't mind playing more.
And since the Faction Rally started I pledged myself to Future War Cult. Not for any specific loot, I just think their lore and colour scheme are fucking awesome. Already repainted my ship and it looks GOOOOOOOOOOOD!
Also picked up Nezarec's Sin from Xur and now I'm...
Just got to level 20, went around getting what engrams I had coming. I have two more adventures on Nessus before journeying on. Gonna need to look up a good guide as to when and what to upgrade. Nice to get inundated with purple gear all at once.
Just one? Shit, man. I have three Warlock sets I am chasing, five or six for the Titan and five or six for the Hunter.
Honestly? It's the only current Warlock chest piece I actually like. Once I get my Titan and Hunter up to scratch I'll probably have more looks cause I like their armour more. I wouldn't mind that Crucible chest piece though.
