I'm Done

Thread Starter
I don't like goodbye threads, but I guess this is that. I could say a lot, but I won't. No parting shots, no anger, just disillusionment and exhaustion. As much as I butted heads with some, I tried to do my best even if my best wasn't always what I wanted it to be.

I had no intention of moving over to Trouble City and now, of course, I see no reason to continue with CHUD. I'm not sure if wishing you all the best would be disingenuous, but I certainly don't wish anyone ill.

I'm just done.

I always dug you and your insight Johnny. Even if you rubbed others the wrong way I liked your fair sense of moderation. Apologies if I had a hand in your disillusionment in any way and I wish you good fortune in going forth to kill that fucking clown.

Wow, I wasn't expecting that. Take care, Johnny, you will be missed.

Aaaaw man. I know you've gotten into it with some people on this forum, but I never thought it would all add up to you leaving the site. Hopefully this Is just you getting a breather and maybe you'll come back to us.

If not--man I guess this site is quietly imploding in on itself.

I wish you the best as much you will see fit to accept.

Well, that sucks. Best of luck, Jacknife.

You'll be back.  You'll be back!

(please come back)

We butt heads once over a banning a while ago, and for a while I was very on my toes when it came to you. I was wary, and often an ass which no doubt didn't help. But over time I've developed nothing but affection for you as a thoughtful member of the forum with a perspective worth listening to. I've long suspected you absolutely despise me and I've made my peace with that as best I can, but I really wish you would reconsider leaving anyway.
Aw man, this sucks. Take care of yourself, Johnny.
Take care Johnny.

Well crap. Take care, Johnny.

*peace sign*

Be cool.

Goodbye and Godspeed. You´ll be missed.

Johnny, I sent you a PM a little while back, and those sentiments haven't changed.

This couldn't have been an easy gig -- trying to moderate a forum as free-wheeling and silly as we get some times, and having to be somewhat removed and be the adult -- but you played a big role in making this place what it is.

Thank you, man. Keep in touch, if you'd like. I'd be more than happy to hear from you from time to time.

Sorry to lose you. You've always been a real asset to this community. Take care of yourself out there.

Now you'll finally have time to take in the pleasures of Batman V Superman: Extended Edition, outside of the influence of the forum.

Peace be with you.

You will honestly be missed, Johnny.

I'll probably miss him.

I'm not surprised to see you go but I'm certainly sorry we won't be interacting further. I've not always agreed with you but I've always admired your thoughts and the conviction you've displayed whilst backing them up. I also want to thank you for the work you've done as a moderator. You've been a one-man army for a long time and, under some pretty difficult circumstances, have done exceptionally well.

It's been a pleasure.

I'm sorry, please take care!

frown.gif Take care, sir.
I'm truly sad to hear this today... Johnny, I miss you already.
I echo the sentiments already expressed and would add that, despite not having had much direct engagement with you, as a forum spectator I have always found your posts to reflect a singular and vivid point of view that offer a particular and often refreshing insight into things. I could tell from your occasional outbursts of frustration that the role was not an easy one, and I commend you for doing it for so long. It's a shame that you feel the way you transitioned to not doing it was enough to precipitate your wholesale departure. I hope you drop in to whatever this place looks like in the future and consider making your voice heard again.

Johnny I often found you to be a bit to harsh in your role as a moderator, but dammit if you weren't always an interesting chewer with great perspectives. Always enjoyed reading your opinions.

I never seen the threads with the fights and you always seemed cool. Shrugs.
Modding's a shitty, thankless job and I sure as fuck couldn't have done it better.

Rock on Johnny. I wish YOU the best, totally genously.
All the best, I also always enjoyed reading your comments, and am sad to see you go.

We'll miss you Johnny. You're good people.

The Wonder Woman and GoT threads won't be as splendid without our Jacknife Johnny putting his oar in, I'll tell you that for free.
All the best man. And for what it's worth I think you put in a hell of an effort.

We don't really know each other, and I don't want this to come across as just a silly joke. But this is how your leaving genuinely makes me feel:

All the best to you, mr. Jacknife.

Modding this board solo must have been a tough and thankless gig JJ, but I just want to say that your work has always been appreciated by me and frankly, your insights in many threads were always worth reading. I can tell you've been unhappy with the state of things for a while and you did hint a few weeks earlier you weren't going to be making the move to trouble.city. Still, it is a shame to see another large fixture of this MB go. I wish you all the best.

Thank you for your work, JJ. It's a dirty job and you did your best. There may have been conflict but you always made your positions clear and above board. Good luck to you.

I guess I haven't visited any forums where you had confrontations with Chuddites.

I've appreciated your angle on conversations you added to.

I've no idea what a moderator does short of playing Catholic School teacher and smacking the hands

of folks who got out of line. Your decision to leave must be respected,

but it's sad to see CHUD.COM dissolve like a sandcastle in the tide.

Thanks from me.

I revisited the Nolan Batman trilogy recently.

Batman Begins is actually better than I remember it, and perhaps has the best script and most "batman-ny" feel to it.  The Dark Knight is just as good as I remembered it, with Two-Face's screentime being somewhat less lengthy/evocative than I recall.

And The Dark Knight Rises gets worse every time I see it.

It's a rare film that manages to 1.)Betray the source material, 2.)Betray the ending of its DIRECT PREDECESSOR, and 3.)Betray the narrative arc of an entire film series.

Batman quitting after what, 6-12 months of being Batman (if you work out the timeline) makes the events of Begins and the ending of Dark Knight kind of irrelevant.  Batman didn't go on to become the Dark Knight that Gotham needed to hate, he just quit.  He quit?  Wait, Batman does. not. quit.  That's one of the defining elements of his character.  He's hobbled, weak, but then somehow manages to snap something on his leg to repair cartilage and gets punched in the back to become stronger and BATMAN IN THIS MOVIE MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE AND ISN'T THE BATMAN FROM THE COMICS OR FROM THE PRIOR MOVIES.

The twist at the end ruins Bane.  Bane's plan makes no sense.  None.  The cops in the sewers makes no sense.  The frontal assault at the end makes no sense.  Batman teleporting to Gotham and wasting time with fiery signals giving away his presence makes no sense.  Tom Hardy is horribly, horribly, horribly miscast.  If you're going to just do a voiceover then cast Conan Stevens and have Hardy do a voiceover.  Catwoman and Batman have no chemistry.  The ending, again, makes no sense and is a betrayal of the Batman source material.

I just want to forget this film even exists.

Not sure if this is elaborate trolling or you accidentally post in wrong thread.

Elaborate troll.  Everyone knows Dark Knight Rises is so good, so it has to be a troll.

it's so good!

Clearly, the cops in the sewers were able to survive for all those months by eating their own.

Makes about as much sense as any other explanation!

Dark Knight Rises?

Pretty good.

Now everyone go read what I wrote about IT in the post-release thread.

Haven't seen the new version yet.  I dimly recall enjoying the first half of the original mini-series back in junior high, and not enjoying the second half at all (thought the spider effect was awful).

I've just come back from vacation where I forced myself to be cut off from the world in a self imposed work exile, and look what I come back to?

I haven't messed with you and you haven't messed with me. In my life that's been a great relationship. I wish you wouldn't go but I wish you the best. I'm sure I'll see you popup somewhere.

Don't worry.  Wherever there is an online discussion that's been done to death and people need to be insultingly told to change the subject or cool off for a while, the signal will go up and JKJ will appear.

I'm not surprised by the tone and timing of this announcement.

So long.
