Terrible Trailers

Burgess Meredith's ghost is fucking PISSED.

I couldn't find an appropriate thread to post this and I sure ain't making a thread just for this movie, so it's going here I guess.

I was curious as to what actually came out this week and stumbled upon this trailer... and was kind of amazed at how fucking AWFUL it all is. Let's start with the women's voices in this trailer. Why the hell do they sound as though they've been dubbed? Does the lead actor in this movie know any other face beyond "I can't stop imagining Kathy Bates naked"? Why do all the daylight scenes look like the non-sexy scenes from porn, back when they had storylines going on? Hey, remember when people shaking their heads in the back of vehicles was really scary? WHY DOES THIS TRAILER TRY TO MAKE A JUMP SCARE OUT OF CARY ELWES TURNING AROUND IN A ROOM?!

Could this trailer and the movie's title make it any more obvious that it'll end with someone waking up from a nightmare?

Jesus, look at that face up there.

If anyone sees this movie and it's better than the trailer, let me know.

Wow that's bad. One crossed my mind:

The lead character as a kid, from the same trailer.

Yeah, the music choice is completely wrong. I haven't seen Braveheart for some time but I definitely wouldn't have bothered checking it out on the big screen if this had been my first exposure to it.

Yikes!

A timeless favorite of mine. We've discussed it more than once here, but it's worth rewatching. It's arguably a very good trailer, but it's also a pure bait-and-switch, selling tickets to a drama by offering an action thriller.

"Supervova" is my gold standard for bad trailers.

Everything about this trailer from the transitions to the weird-ass font is cringe inducing.

Wow, that is painfully bad. I remember seeing this in the theater, and 2000!Reasor was impressed that Robin Tunney finally got her mamellas out on screen, but I'd have skipped it if I'd seen the trailer.

That font isn't just weird. It's awful. It's the worst thing to happen to society. It's called comic sans.

Terrible movie music:

And another one from the same film.  It's only about 90 seconds long, but it seems to last about 10 minutes.  A true endurance test.

Gasp! 1492 has one of my favorite scores! What a terrible track for the trailer.

Agreed.  Vangelis did a masterful job on the soundtrack.

Jesus. And as funny as Eugene Levy can be, The Simpsons pretty much nailed it:

Wow. The 90's and early 2000's seem to have been bad a time for trailer music but this might be the worst I've ever seen.

hahahah what a great trailer!

Awful teaser trailer, with shots that aren't even in the theatrical version.

weird... I'd never seen that one before

The Braveheart trailer I was used to (I think it was one of the previews before some other Paramount VHS I had) is this one:

As with The Patriot....I just can't imagine how something like Braveheart plays in England. I may be remembering wrong and missing some parts but I recall the British being portrayed as complete scum across the board. There's a lot of movies that are guilty of this, to be fair.

Captain America was one that I couldn't IMAGINE playing well in other countries. Thankfully they were wise enough making all the movies that featured Cap showing him as a man who, despite his name, is clearly someone who would risk his life to defend and protect any man, woman or child regardless of country just as fiercely as he would the US and it's citizens. Braveheart and The Patriot just sometimes seems like Mel hates the British..

Here's another one where you have to wonder what the fuck they were thinking.

The trailer for Bruce Willis' upcoming Death Wish remake is my pick for worst trailer ever. I've never seen anything so tone deaf in my life. Just awful..
The "Death Wish" trailer has haunted my every movie-going experience for the past couple months.

"Castaway" us by far the worst. We talk about trailers that give away the movie but this one does it literally.

Well, you see he never gets off the island of self...

I love that teaser!!!

That fucking awful teaser for Alien 3 that promised Aliens on Earth.
The chaos behind the movie's production shows that they outright knew they were lying with that trailer.

That's Zemeckis trailers though. He's said with trailer he wants you to know exactly what you're getting.

I remember the trailer for "Airheads" being a hilarious "Dog Day Afternoon" meets grunge rock mashup, with comedic gags aplenty. Then the movie itself had no additional comedic gags. The movie has just enough comedic gags to fill a trailer.

I'm most reluctant to see comedies theatrically.

Is that a bad trailer?  I'm not so sure.  It's cheesy as fuck, but that's trailers in the 90's for you.  Music might not be quite right but I'll never turn my nose up at Morricone.

Now that 1492 trailer Judas posted... Ye gads. What an abomination.
The '90s had some of the best trailers. I'll occasionally revisit the "Judge Dredd" trailer and still think it looks like the greatest movie ever made ever.
With that epic Jerry Goldsmith theme whose score was entirely replaced by Alan Silvetri in the actual movie.

That can't be real.

It looks remarkably terrible.

It's playing in L.A.

And as the cherry on top, the trailer misspells the director's name.

Shannon just looks completely bewildered that he's there.

Are we entirely sure they didn't just "Bowfinger" Michael Shannon into being in this film?

It looks like a whimsical comedy with no discernible target audience!

Like "Lars and the Real Girl."

I saw that in theaters!!

That looks legitimately awful.  Wow.

That looks fun.
