CHUD Gift Exchange 2017

Thread Starter

Didn't see a thread for this year yet...so here we go. Hopefully there is enough response to keep this tradition going again this year! I'll take over for this year's edition.

You know the deal.

Name

City/State/Country

Whether you'll ship international or not.

Dylan Friedman

Asheville, NC, USA

Can't ship international

In
Dusty Savage
Texas, USA
Only shipping stateside this year unfortunately..

I'm in (I'd keep full real names in PMs, for privacy's sake, guys)

Flowery Branch, GA. USA

I can ship internationally if the recipient doesn't mind something from Amazon, but otherwise States-bound.

I thought about that Jacob lol but I already done gave up my real name so I figured what more harm could it do?

Now other people's real names that I know? Obviously that's PM only material. No way I'd do that to any of y'all..

Thanks for starting this, DJ!

I'll leave sign-ups open until December 1st if that sounds good?
Posting to keep track of the thread, but I'm unsure so far. Money is pretty tight this year, and regardless of assurances, I always feel extremely guilty about what I can afford to give.

We usually firm up the list by Thanksgiving, the better to take advantage of sales. But these days the sales just keep going, so I'm fine with Dec 1.

ETA: The current 50% Criterion sale at Barnes & Noble does end on Nov 30...

Just ask for me in the exchange. You've already sent me something that I enjoyed and that can be it. If you're ok with that, I am smile.gif
post #12 of 147

In, I loved doing it last year.

Derek Meinecke

Deep River, CT

Sadly, only nationally.

I've never done this. Always watched from the sidelines, never participated because I don't have much money. Still don't have much money, but fuck it, I'm in. Sorry, US only.

Don't worry about price. We've traditionally kept the minimum low.

I'm in.

Minneapolis, MN

International ok.

In! Still enjoy the great stuff Fraid got me last year!

Neil
Brooklyn, NY
Int’l okay

I'm in.

Minneapolis, MN (USA)

International OK, but we'll need to figure out logistics

Gotta keep up the tradition of sending a copy of Scarecrows to someone every year.

Toronto, Canada, international OK.

Oh I have that movie! It's great!

I just sold my copy of that movie this weekend!

Fraid and I have discussed via PM. If I participate, please set me with someone as normal.

Lmao....when I first read that I read it as "set me up with someone normal."

Not entirely inaccurate..
I apologize but I’m already going to have to pull out. We are a single car family, and our car just crapped out.

Sorry to hear, Dalyn. Our car just went out recently, and the furnace busted last night. I feel your pain. Good luck, sir.

We've got 11 so far signed up! I've not lead this before, but I think the easiest way to match would be to literally just draw names from a hat?

May want to check on WD40.  He may be taking an unfortunate LOA from the board.

I think I am officially going to opt out this year. I don't really have the money, and what few pennies I do have to spare I think I am going to use on a local family that is struggling for the holidays. Sorry to be a lame ass, everyone.

Hey, good for you WD.  Your priorities are in the right place.

If there's only ten of us, maybe we should give it a rest this year? Doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm.

If I weren't making a $300 million short film next month, I'd join in. But you can consider my film to be a gift to you all.
I’m in this year, I’m fine with international as long as the recipient is fine with something from Amazon. I was waffling on participating as I just bought my first house and am getting married next year, but I would be sorry to miss out.

I’m in Prince George BC Canada

Love you guys, but this has been a curse in the past for me.

Don't say that, Nick! The Dalek alarm clock you got me last year wakes me up every weekday morning!

I mean more in terms of getting burned by folks. I love giving! It's weird that the site creator would get absolutely shafted TWICE and have a few years where the other person really pushed the envelope of barely making an effort.

I'm happy to join in again this year. I don't know what the workable minimum participation is, but add me to the list if it goes ahead. I'm all about the Yuletide cheer.

Happy to ship internationally.

I've been back about a year. I'm game for this.

<name withheld>

New York, NY

International Ok.

Nick, can you give us the gift of banning Kate's current incarnation, SlimBOB?

Nice, some of my family just sold their place in Quesnel as the young folks were all down in the lower mainland...

Nice, I was talking to a lady from Ontario last week, she had the best pronounciation of Quesnel I've ever heard. She decided the "s" should be a hard "k" sound. So it came out like Quack-nel. For those of you playing along at home the "s" is silent so it's pronounced Que(same as the start of Quebec)-nell. She said it like 3 times.

They have a nice airshow in the summer.

I hope it wasn't my gift Nick didn't like.

Nick's mentioned a few times that he's been stiffed in the past.  Those of us who have been taking part in this long enough, it happens.

I know they still go up to visit; the fires got pretty damn close to their old property this summer.  I'll miss the trips to Wells and Barkerville, those are pretty cool places.  Wells especially, the little artist's colony.  For a while I was happy not to have to make that long drive up through Cache Creek, Williams Lake, etc.; now I think I'll miss it.  Anyhow, Prince George looks like a pretty good place to live.

I’m in, even though I get the worst writers block this time of year when I get the gift exchange PM asking for suggestions on stuff that I would like.

Tim Kozloski (because why try to even hide it, the email associated with my account here has my last name in it, it’s not like it’s that hard to figure out)
San Diego, CA.

Sorry, I can’t do international shipping.

It's been a few years, but this has ALWAYS been fun (ie: I haven't been stiffed yet...)

Count me in!!

Also International is fine (you guys DO KNOW that you can buy stuff from the recipients home country, right?)...:)

I can even provide an Amazon Wishlist...

Nice to see folks getting in under the wire...Etsy is also an option for more personalized gifts internationally.

Good point, Sub...I've never used Etsy, probably because I've viewed it in much the same way as other posters viewing 'them forren sights' as not having any form of legal comeback should something go awry...

...a quick glance proves otherwise.

Yeah the fires were insane this year. We had 10,000 evacuees in town during the summer. My company supplies vehicles to the Red Cross, they will need them into the spring(!) as they are still doing “outreach”.

I moved up from Kamloops 3.5 years ago. I wouldn’t have been able to buy a house there so Prince George is looking all right, and hey we are out of the top ten of Canada’s most dangerous cities as judged by MacLeans magazine(we are now #11).

Didn't I buy you a bottle of booze one year, McIrish?

You bought my a lovely hardbound graphic novel set of Parker stories drawn by the late great Darwin Cooke, called The Martini edition. I love it! You also purchased several terrible CD’s (un)celebrating Canada’s worst musical talents Nickleback Anne Murray Bryan Adams and Gordon Lightfoot(that one I like).
