DIE HARD Casting Draft - Sign Up and Discussion Thread

In the spirit of season, let's do the ultimate Christmas movie.  No, I'm not talking about IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, you dummy.

DIE HARD

John McClane

Hans Gruber

Holly Gennaro-McClane

Sgt. Al Powell

Deputy Chief of Police Dwayne T. Robinson

Dick Thornburg

Pick 4 from the following list:

Argyle

Theo

Harry Ellis

Joseph Takagi

Karl

Special Agent Johnson

Special Agent Johnson (no relation)

The 'Make Fists with your Toes' guy

Bonus Picks (for DIE HARD 2)

Colonel Stuart

Captain Carmine Lorenzo

Major Grant

For you newbies: we're casting the movie as if it were being filmed today.  You're using actors who are working today at their current age.  That's pretty much the only criteria for eligibility...you can play around with race, sex, whatever with the actors that you choose to fill out the parts.  If you have a fun theme in mind for your draft, go for it.

We'll be drafting in a specified order each day.  Once an actor has been selected by someone, they are gone and they cannot be taken again.  Choose your picks wisely.

Added: if you make a pick and that actor ends up getting disgraced in the current climate of sexual harassment, you can opt to re-draft that role at no additional charge.

Sign up below.  We'll start on Monday, November 27th.

-----------------------------

Judas

Dent6084

Superlaser

MrSaxon

JMurdoch

AtomTastic

Moltisanti

HypnoToad

Fat Elvis

HunterTarantino

SimBOB

Richard Dickson

Ratty

flint

jhp1608

Boone Daniels

MrTyres

Steve Moonrocket

Arjen Rudd

Bailey

Never really participated in these.  Can we just throw our picks into the thread?

Hey there.  Part of the fun of doing this entails actually doing it like a fantasy football draft.  If you just want to do a recast for fun, by all means do so once we've finished drafting.  I ask that you wait until the draft is complete because we also have a rule of not mentioning undrafted actors until everyone has gone.

How about it, Jack? Would you like a shot at the title?

I got invited to the draft by mistake.

Sure, I'll give it a shot.

"Come out to the boards, we'll draft together, make a few picks..."

Asks self...would a man like Molt make a mistake like that? Or is he bluffing like Hans Gruber?

Gotta admit...I'm most anxious to see who everyone casts as Ellis and Thornburg in this.

I promise not to be weird this time.

OK, we hit 16, kinda the magic 'go or no go' number, so we're off to the races.  People are still encouraged to sign up...the more, the merrier.

I think mocking and/or applauding your guys's selections will be more fun.

I will be following this thread with great interest.

Are we allowed to draft disgraced actors for roles?

If so, can they be replaced down the line with more esteemed, less devious choices?

"Mr Booth, I could talk about industrialization and men's fashion all day. However, I am far more interested in the 10 actors hidden in your casting draft... and CHUD controls the draft."

Just make it a rule that if one of your picks gets dragged into the Hollywood Skeeve thread debacle after you draft them but before the draft ends, you have the option to do an immediate emergency recast.
That could make an interesting idea for a wild card/twist down the line, like they did with the Heist draft. One of your actors (determined at random) has a scandal come out that requires them to be replaced in the role.

I love this.  I'm going to add this to the rules.

I'll think on this.

It's kind of apt for what's going on at the moment. And the inconvenience of you casting your perfect Hans only for him to be revealed as a Sex Predator in round 9, means you have less of a pool to pick from for replacement time. Or you choose to submit your round even knowing you have that guy in your team. I like it.

I'll be the wet blanket and say it feels kind of weird and minimizing to the actual scope of what's going on to "pretend" one of your cast has been revealed as a slimeball. But the rule about Hollywood Skeeves actually being skeeves is a funny one.

That's exactly why I'm hesitant on this.  It's not really a laughing matter and making it an element of this draft kinda trivializes what's actually happening.

I know I totally spaced on the start of the Batman draft a couple months back but if you'll take me I would love to get in on this one.

I had the same thought and honestly almost deleted that part before I posted it, but ultimately decided to at least throw it out there. I don't think it would fit in this draft anyway, but as an option as a 'random event' like in the heist draft and only after the entire climate around the sexual assault issues in Hollywood has settled enough for us to evaluate how insensitive it would actually be. I originally used the word 'fun' to describe the idea and when I re-read before posting I realized that made me sound like a complete monster.

I'm glad you agree on the Spacey/Plummer emergency recast rule though.

The standard is that we post using the Eastern (United States) time zone as a point of reference.  In general, the draft times run from roughly 10am until 2-3pm Eastern, which generally enables us to give all US Chewers and European Chewers an opportunity to draft.

Have you seen how our other drafts have worked?

If for some reason you can't make your pick during your designated draft time you can just post in here that you'll post your pick(s) later that day. The main thing is to get your pick(s) in each day, even if you're late you want to try and avoid missing an entire day.

And welcome, onemanmust!

Ive followed the other drafts on here. Fantastic reading btw. I think I have a fair handle on how it all works, at least until the second and further rounds.

Correct.  You can draft for any role that you want at any point in the draft when your time slot comes up.

Agreed.

I also think that people are going to have to really, really reach on some of these picks...knowing this crowd, the heavy hitters are gonna go fast.

I intend to have draft threads with draft times up by this coming weekend.  I could do them now but I want to leave it open for anyone else who wants to join.

Im more excited for this than for Christmas. Jk

Really want to see some of the more outlandish picks that are sure to turn up
post #50 of 665

Do we wanna expand the bonus picks to any characters from the Die Hard-iverse? People can grab a Zeus Carver, Simon Gruber or even... Thomas Gabriel or Matt Farrell (god forbid).
