JUSTICE LEAGUE Post-Release Discussion - Page 20

It occurred to me this morning that going to see a DC movie is like seeing your very young child doing a musical recital. You're sitting there in the dark really, genuinely HOPING that they'll hit all the right notes. WILLING them to do well. But then they fuck it up 30 seconds in and shit their pants as an encore.

How is it I brought up Trayvon Martin, model minorities, the light shading of Ray Fisher's skin, "brutes," "mammies," football as slavery and castration anxiety and didn't once get a reply from Ambler or Boone.

Not once.

Because you're trying too hard?

Or maybe you're already blocked....

Shhhh, run along now.

Man talk.

Do you want a negative reply from them? Maybe they just realize you like....AREN'T A RACIST.

But I wouldn't push that kinda stuff too much further. There's more to superhero movies than coded racism..

Well, if dont mind reading comic book on your Kindle/Ipad, Comixology is having huge black friday sales.

You can get the whole Morrison run of JLA for about 20 bucks, if you want to feel better after this average movie.*

*One of my favorite moments from it (that shows how DC dropped the ball with BvS and JL)?

When Superman has turned into an energy being and has new powers (you know, because comics), he obviously subjects himself to the same entrance exam all newcomers to the JLA must go through.

Of couse he passes with flying colors, and all that is left is Batman's vote.

They call Batman to the Batcave (because of course he cant be bothered with those tests, he's Batman and he is busy).

The Response.

"Of course he is in. He's Superman".

It still amazes me just how perfect Morrison gets the DC universe and can make it relevant and modern without betraying the character's legacy and essence.

All Star Superman should be obligatory reading to anyone hired to write Superman for any medium.

man, Affleck looks so sad playing with himself

That reminds me, I didn't hear anyone make note one way or another of the batsuit Bruce was wearing when talking to Diana (I can't place the scene), but it looked like fabric with padded pieces built upon it. For all the previous talk of making a fabric-based suit made out of some sort of future-based kevlar that hardens upon impact (similar to Nolan's electric current-based cape tech), I thought it came out pretty cool.

It’s because they messed around with the contrast to make the film brighter (cuz Marvel) and that messed with the way Snyder lit his scenes. Snyder designed his costumes for his lighting. It makes the movie look so hookey when they are all standing around in their costumes.

Saw this elsewhere.  Not sure if it's been shared yet but...wow.

Affleck in initial shoot vs the reshoots.

WOW.

Are you talking about when they're on the plane near the end?  The one I'm thinking of had a really low collar and I think its supposed to be the undersuit for his final costume?  I remember noticing it didn't have any bat-symbol on it and assumed the patches were magnets or something that his armor stuck to. Maybe?  Seemed cool.

They showed him tinker with his gauntlets and that recording throughout the movie, so I was really hoping he'd have some sonic brass knuckles or something at the end to fight parademons with.

I took that to be a base layer that he wore under his armor, nothing more.

Damn, you guys are probably right. Even so, something like that would be a great base to build off of for the next incarnation.

Clearly, I’m famous for it.

So I just got out of this. Enjoyable. Boy is that CGI lip thing blown outta proportion. I mean....who cares. Tone kinda threw me off. It really was trying to be some kind of course correction. BvS is dark as SHIT compared to this. But it's a fun movie. It's just light weight as cotton candy. The way it all plays out....I do feel it's a damn shame if Affleck and Cavill are almost out the door. It's weird watching something that throws so many things out there hinting at things to come in future movies....future movies that are most likely never gonna happen. At least not with some of the main people that we'd like it to.

Also.....this did NOT feel like a Zack Snyder movie to me (or Joss Whedon either). I don't know who it felt like but it wasn't them..
fraid I can't trust your eyes anymore

of course you're seeing it after people glommed onto it as a meme

I saw it opening night without having any idea of just how MONSTROUS it would be
post #971 of 1489
I was looking for something to BOTHER me though. And I didn't find anything that did. Sure....I SAW the lip thing. It just made no difference to me at all. I was expecting something GLARING..

I mean... I don't even know if I could say it BOTHERED me, but it IS glaring to my SUPERHUMAN RECEPTORS

It's not as if the movie was working its magic on me and the lip thing is what ruined it all.  Because I blandly enjoyed the movie.  The lip thing probably helped me engage with it more because it's just insane to me.  I THINK IT'S HISTORIC in terms of VFX being used for something just so stupid and petty.

Had I not known the context of the lip replacement, I'd have been "WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIS LIPS????"

but as it is, it often served as a handy dandy marker for what was a reshoot!

What felt glaring was how there being a much longer version of this seems almost like a foregone conclusion.

Haha and if so, I hope it's super freakin long...I'd buy that.

Honestly, the most glaringly awkward looking thing was Steppenwolf's face (and most of his stock supervillain dialogue). He really was the most vapor villain since Malekith..

I really want to see Snyder's version.

Steppenwolf's face?  That's just usual rushed CG nonsense.  Nothing we haven't seen before.

LIP IS GAMECHANGER

I know it's nothing we haven't seen before but it never occurred to me that that might be something that didn't sit too well with me. And then I saw it in motion and was like "errrmmm ok...that wasn't too awesome." But the DC movies have certainly let me know what to expect now after Doomsday, whoever in Suicide Squad, Ares and now Steppenwolf.

I miss like hell the performance based villainy of Ledger's Joker and Bane. Charisma and humanity for DAYS over this nonsense..
Fraid, how do you feel about Cyborg being penis challenged?
The whole DCEU is penis challenged as fuck.

And how does that make you feel?

Guys, I think Bart may have been taken over by a rogue Eliza program.

No, I'm Shaun.

Bart, these are characters for children. We don't think about this filth.

But what if you did think about it?

I liked Cyborg in this. Much more than I expected. Dude's got charisma for days..

But the dick.

This board doesn't need two Freemans.
I can truthfully say that I didn't think about Cyborg's dick but maybe once..

I'm not sure who that's referring to...me or Bart..

Don't worry, Fraid. I've tried too hard with this one and it's not sticking.

All I wanted was to be called racist by Ambler.

:(

What was the name of that Dennis Hopper movie where the cyborg villain uses a lawnmower ripcord to get his vibrating mechanical dick started? This is going to bug me for the rest of the night now.

ETA: Never mind, it was Space Truckers. Thank God for IMDB, or I would have been up all night wondering.

I’m about to be up all night wondering if I should/why did I watch it.

Boone's unpredicatable. He won't go off on what you expect. Nine pages from now in this thread, you'll post something like "I liked Superman's cape in this" and Boone will reply "oh so now you're a Homophobe racist?".

Blue Batsuit Matters

Blue Batsuit is ONLY acceptable in live action in comedy terms.  Adam West, or a live action version of the Brave and the Bold HAS to be Blue Batman.  Because Blue Batman is a friend to the neighborhood.  He's a cheeky fellow full of good humor and justice.

I don’t mind the blue. Anyone remember that fan Grayson trailer? Never seen a bluer Batman in my life.

In this, at least, Freeman's not wrong.
