G.I.Joes - I grew up playing with these guys. They were awsome. You could pose them to look like their arms were broken, do all kinds of kung-fu stuff, and they had cool weapons.

Marvel took these characters, and made something beautiful out of a comic book tie-in. The series ran for a number of years, and for a good reason. This series rocked. Cobra Commander was a real bastard. He buried anybody he didn't like in a volcano.

You really oughta check this series out. They're dirt cheap, if ya can find them. I've got a ton of em, but you can't have any.

Neener.

Silent Interlude is the greatest. It changed my life. Seriously. After I read (or didn't read) that comic, I tried to do something like it, and realized that I didn't have the talent or knack for it. I'd show it to everyone and they'd ask, "What's going on in this?" It was then I started to grab some textbooks and some Eisner stuff and learn how to do comics properly-to find the movement in sequential art. That one unsung book did more for me as an artist than anything Jim Lee or Todd McFarlane or any "worshipped" artist or bestselling book ever did.

I loved G.I. Joe. I had neary every figure and vehicle until the hovercraft. I miss it all. I wish I was nine again...

Animal,

Does that mean you're an artist?

According to Wizard: The Comics Magazine® the wordless SnakeEyes story was actually an accident, something like the story had to be changed at the last minute, but there was no time to redo all the type so they just left it out. Classic, maybe. Accident, definitely!

Yes, Nick, I fancy myself an artiste. I go for very realistic portraiture, but the stuff's really all over the map. My comic work has been compared (favorably, I guess) to Adam Hughes-I guess he and I draw wimmin' in a similar way. And a lot of the painted/mixed media stuff I do has been compared to Drew Struzan (a MAJOR influence).

MAME DROPPING ANECTDOTE-While at the Chicago Comicon one year, with a Now-defunct indie called Scarecrow Press, I had the opportunity to talk to Dave Dorman. When I returned to our booth, one of the other artists, a Glenn Danzig clone named Larry asked me, "What did Dorman say to you?" I told him, "He gave me a few phone numbers and asked me if I had ever considered doing covers, because I 'definitely have what it takes'. Larry freaked out and said, "Holy Shit, man! That's like Michelangelo tellin' ya to go paint some f**kin' ceilings, dude!"

To this day, that makes me smile.

I sound like a name-dropping asshole, don't I? I try to meet people all of the time to get a feel for what I need to do to make things happen. I write, I draw, I paint, I do short films, I sculpt, I build models-and I'd like to think I'm decent at this kind of thing. I try to tell these people that I work cheap and am willing to learn, but it is tough breaking in-I sure as hell haven't. Anyway, Nick. I do all of those things, and if you (or any CHUD kid) needs anything from me (including me to SHUT UP) at any time, all you need do is ask. I would be honored to help.

Pushy, isn't he? Let's kick him off the board...
