The Green Hornet

Back when the film was to star George Gooney, Jackie Chan was near signing on as Kato. After both left the project, it was rumored that Greg Kinnear would be the Green Hornet (which I think is PERFECT).

Jet Li would be great. This is a role for him. I think one of the important things to consider is that the film is going to be broad, as a treatment I read some time ago specifically mentioned that Sidekick Kato was going to be far more adept than the Hornet, and that he would constantly prop the Hornet up, almost imperceptibly. During the TV series' run, Van was constantly upstaged by Lee onscreen, and it was always played with a wink and a smile-I see the same thing happening here. I really hope Kinnear stayed attached-he's really good at overly-earnest. He and Jet would make an amusing team, in my opinion.

Here's to hoping Joel Schumacher's schedule is clear!

Armed with that information, what does everyone think of Li as Kato?

I agree with ya HAM, I think it should be played just like that, with Kato stealign the show. I really got a kick out of that part of "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story"

Hey, I'm all for Jet Li as Kato. It'll save him the embarrassment of being in the Matrix sequels.

Too bad we can't get Johnny Depp and Terry Gilliam on board. Of course I say that about any movie...

Look, Jet Li doesn't even LOOK like Kato Kailen. And Greg Kinnear as O.J.? WTF?

I think Li would be excellent. And after seeing Greg Kinnear as Captain Fantastic in Mystery Men, I have to agree with you about him for the Green Hornet role. It could definitely work.

GOOD LORD, I agree with Quatermass76 (there ya go) It may be a first, but hopefully not the last time. Gilliam is a god, and Depp is like god's sidekick!

Tony Randall's BEST role ever.

Or how about Jason Lee as Kato, and Jason SCOTT Lee as the Green Hornet...

And set the film in Amsterdam, and have them smoke hash all the time.

Oh wait, that's next season of 'The Real World'...no, no, that's ANY season of the Real World...

So now we've been given our Hornet-MARK WAHLBERG?

So it would seem that the people behind this one have decided to go with a couple of cinematic hard asses for this project-and while Marky is certainly no Jet Li-he IS is excellent physical shape, and has proven adept at comedy or drama.

He even did well as the lead in The Big Hit.

The question becomes-how does having two young, hip ass kickers in this film alter the project?

As previosly mentioned, the film was to have a broad, wink-wink feel to it, and the Hornet would be almost imperceptibly upstaged by Kato-but with Wahlberg-is it possible that we will be seeing something with a little more edge? Should we?

How will this change things? Discuss!

Not to nitpick, but i don't think i'd call Jet Li young -- I believe he's nearly 40 years old. The ass-kicker part is true though

Actually, he just turned 36-shortly after marrying Nina Li Chi. But he has a fresh-faced, youthful look to him, is a lot younger than the guys who pass for action stars, and has an image that cliques with a youth demographic-so you can see why I would label him so. Besides, I don't think anyone's really old until they hit the flipside of 50.

But what do you think of the CASTING, David?
