it was pretty cool. interesting mythological/fantasy overtones. it's definitely nice to see a story with fantasy elements not directly drawing from tolkien/arthurian/european mythoi. the english translation drew some heavy talent, notably neil gaiman doing the screenplay translation's adaptation and the voice talent of claire danes, billy bob thornton and minnie driver. i'm surprised it got so little advertising/mass distribution but then again i guess animation gets the hard shaft unless it's got a disney sticker on the poster. definitely up there with the iron giant, akira and ghost in the shell for favorite long animated movies. i recommend checking it out on video if it's available (not really sure). the background animation is also spectacular.
