Live-action "Tick"

What do y'all think about this? I personally think Sonnenfeld is a hack, but I have faith in Ben Edlund (who's from the next town over from me). Warburton is a perfect choice for the lead, with that sort of dry, clueless delivery. The comic and the toon were great, hopefully the series will maintain the same wacky tone. Edlund's come up with some damn funny ideas in the past, hopefully a lot of them make it to the series

The big thing that fans are going to complain about is the fact that you can see all of the characters' faces when in costume. I don't have a problem with this, because it will allow for more facial expressions, but i'm sure the pragmatic reason they did it is because realistically, who would want to star in a series where you never see all of their face? I mean, even on that "Robocop" syndicated series, he took his helmet off all the time...

I'm seriously pumped for this show. My only problem is that it's slotted for the midseason and not the fall lineup.

Also, after seeing Warburton in costume today, I think he's the perfect choice to play the Tick.
Spooooooon!!!

I say why not. It can't be any worse than the crap on the airwaves now. Besides, if it has just a fraction of the cartoon's inspired moments, it'll be a blast.

I'm worried that people will think this is a rip-off of Mystery Men, and not realize that this was the original superhero comedy. Maybe the cast'll show up on Space Ghost...

I miss the egg-lookin eyeballs in the Tick's and Arthur's costumes. Those were trademarked.

Still, they're not black leather...

I suppose I shouldn't mention The Roach from Cerebus, then, huh? I kept waiting for a Tick Roach ;}

I think midseason is the show's best chance for survival. Crap is on, reruns are on, a small new show like this could harm. If it were a fall season starter, up against all of the high-powered, high budget new shows, as well as the returns of all the powerhouse shows, it would be on for two weeks, tops.

And why do you say Sonnenfeld is a hack?

The way networks yank shows nowadays, we'll probably be lucky to see two episodes no matter when they decide to air it. Sad but true... look what they're doing to "Clerks"

I think Sonnenfeld should have stayed a cinematographer, at least then he worked on decent movies ("Raising Arizona", "Big", "Miller's Crossing"). But with the notable exception of "Get Shorty", i have despised everything he's done. I hated both the "Addams Family" movies (not even Raul Julia could save them), and i thought "Men In Black" was a gigantic missed opportunity -- i've never seen a "big" movie seem so small. And then there was "Wild Wild West"... He lacks any kind of vision of his own, and seems be too easily swayed by whoever else is involved with each production, whether it's actors or producers (*ahem* Jon Peters). His oversized ego does not match what he's directed. Somewhere in him is a capable filmmaker i'm sure, but i have yet to see it
