reinventing comics out...

hey guys,

i just went shopping this past weekend and got a copy of scott mccloud's 'reinventing comics'. just finished it today and while it's not as big a powerhouse of overwhelming ideas as his first serious look at
sequential art in 'understanding comics', it's definitely worth the price of admission.

in this book he describes what he calls the twelve revolutions spurring past, present, and future growth in the comics industry. with this in mind he considers how comics' creators have driven to forward the artform as an art and a business. his particular take on the history of comics as an industry is illuminating simply from the inclusion of the independent artists' perspective alone. the second half of his new book has lots on the impact of the internet and specifically the web as the medium for comics of the future. if you are a graphical artist who uses computers, it's interesting to see mccloud's take on what technology brings to the artist's table and where the artist can go from there to connect to the viewer.

if you are a serious fan of this artform or wondered why anybody would be... pick up "understanding comics". but if you already love comics and want to examine why the industry steadily loses ground to other media and what it can do to acclimate to survive the future, find "reinventing comics" the next time you visit the comicshop.
