For anyone who liked the Sandman...

...let's not forget the seminal piece of comic book work that holds that same amorphous feel to it:

'V' for Vendetta.

This is the forerunner, the breadth and scope for all that was to come in the comic book world. It is holy. Love it. Be it.

yes, worship at the altar of alan moore. unholy comics god of britannia!

equally worthy (if not technically superior) is his seminal work "the watchmen" which is also available in trade paperback. this puppy along with frank miller's "dark knight returns" put modern comics on the map.

watchmen's style is metatextual, with multiply woven threads of narrative and ticking time bombs of plot and twists waiting to explode in a stunning finale. powerful stuff.

also recommended would be alan moore's swamp thing run... also available in trades, blah blah blah.

don't even get me started on the disturbing nature of "from hell"... it's a story of horrors based on truths and guessed half-truths about jack the ripper.

the more you buy...
