BUT IT, READ IT, LOVE IT.

the go out and buy Steven Pressfield's "Gates of Fire" to get the whole story.

I LOVE IT. Not only is it an amazing story, but it reawakened my interest in the Spartan stand at Thermopalye, which has been kind of a hobby of mine, off and on, since I was a kid. I have yet to pick up Gates of Fire, tho. Does it pass muster?

300 is terrific and Gates Of Fire is even more so.

Both give a true taste of what being a Spartan-type guy must have been like. You're hungry, exhausted and entering a battle you're doomed to lose. Big fun.

As for the historical veracity of 300, all I can offer is this:

That Frank Miller sure do draw some pretty pitchers.
