Old collections you HAVE to read

Are there any old comic book series or issues that you find yourself re-reading even thought they are not always considered the best works?

My picks:

G.I. Joe - I don't know why, but I keep reading this series over and over, even though the art is usually subpar and the stories a bit blah at times.

Transformers - Bet you can't tell when I grew up!

Iron Man - The original "Armor Wars" saga. good straightforward action.

X-Men - The Dark Phoenix saga, Any of J.R. jr's original run. Claremont was really clicking during this time. Silvestri and Jim Lee's works weren't bad either, although Claremont was wearing thin toward the end.

Captain America - When Dwyer and Lim were handling the art. Nothing beats that crazy Serpent Society.

I didn't think there was anyone else out there who had a complete series of G I Joe. Well, mine isn't complete, it starts with issue 5. I do have issues 1-5 in those little digest books, like the ones they produce now for Archie comics.

The Nth Man? Now that's some old school comic reading. How about "This is Wild Dog!" That was some crud from DC in the eighties. Only a four issue series, since that was all one could take.

Any Warren Ellis book is a good read. His run on Storm Watch was great. If you don't have those, pick them up. Good Stuff! (although the Authority and Planetary are superior)

Here's some more for my list:

The Asgardian Wars. This was a crossover with the X-Men and New Mutants drawn by Art Adams (where is he?). I have the trade paperback.

A Masters of Evil plotline in the Avengers (1st series). Can't remember the specific issues, but it was somewhere around the mid 200's. this was the one where a drunken Hercules got stomped to a pulp and Jarvis was beaten like a rented mule. You just don't see enough butlers being smacked around in comics these days.

The ClanDestine: Alan Davis' original creation after his run on Excalibur. Excellent read until Marvel screwed it up and Davis left. This was some of his best work IMHO.
