The Official Chewer DVD Purchase Thread 1.0 - Behold all the scratch we waste...

Cause I'm tired of reading all those goddamn little threads.

Simple. You buy a DVD, you put it in here. The cat with the biggest collection of shit titles at the end of the year wins PIE.

And that's 2 for Clockstoppers.

Tony...dude...you got hosed six ways to Sunday.

$33 bucks for IN THE BEDROOM? WTF?

And Birthday Girl...man I rented that instead. Good thing too...
Got no other place to buy DVDs in my town. They had one copy of In The Bedroom and it wasn't on sale.

But hey, they had the CC Flesh for 30 bucks, which was odd.

Clockstoppers was, to my surprise, a very fun flick. A couple more viewings of that sucker in order.

And I kinda enjoyed Birthday Girl, cliché but fun. Plus Kidman's a huge babe. But to be fair, my dad bought that one. The rest were me.
Tony's money. Sam Goody's got it.

Got 'Versus' in the mail yesterday...eBay: $20 even.

Haven't watched it yet...but I threw the disc in and was impressed with the quality...anamorphic, 5.1 all that mess...some extras too.
Tony, if your options really are that limited then you should seriously start pre-ordering all of your DVDs online. It would be MUCH cheaper... and you might even get a good deal of them on or even before the street date. Not that it matters WHEN you get them if you're picking up 5-6 discs a week. wink

You could have ordered it through our amazon link for only 17 cents more, but nooooooooooooo

"The Attic Expeditions" - used at Blockbuster, $6.99 (I found the only one that had a $6.99 tag in a shelf full of ones marked $9.99 and they felt compelled to sell it to me at the "mistaken" price).

I can't even remember the last DVD I bought new. Collecting DVDs is a WAY too expensive hobby for my blood.
The thing is, I see a lot of people that just buy films for the sake of buying them. Like sure, there's nice scenes of Britney Spears in her underwear in Crossroads but to buy the DVD? Come on.....

I don't buy a film unless it's near and dear to me. In other words, I really really liked it. And I rarely buy sight-unseen. Things are just too expensive to do that.

Super Troopers (Circuit City $17.99)

I planned to buy it through the link here, but figured I'd give you a book of stamps instead of making you wait for the kick-back $0.40 from my purchase.

Whoops. Sorry, I forgot. I was single-minded when I ordered in that I was pissed off at Media Play. I'll give you a book of stamps and the head of the Kraken the next time I see you to make up for it.

8/12 Change Of Habit (Free)

"Wrath of Khan" is a great disc. Definitely worth picking up if you can find it for under $20.

Speaking of which, did I send my ST2 review to the right address? I sent it to Chris's dvddork addy.
Go ahead and send it to me, too (carl@dvdsewer.com). I've got a few things to upload and I think he's busy trying to figure out the glitch in our CGI script.

I'm with Verbal. I'd rather spend money on something else instead of a pile of steaming crap that I'd never watch. I generally Netflix movies that are older and catch the newer ones in the theatre. Then, if I like it enough, I'll get it on DVD.
I'm not ripping on anyone, because collecting DVDs is a far sight better than some of the crap I've collected in my lifetime. I'm just saying that I can't afford it, so I try then buy.
Hey, if you've got the means to do that, more power to ya.

I just try to be more choosy.
I buy sight unseen because there are NO fucking good rental stores around here and Netflix doesn't operate in Blighty.
I got a widescreen version of Zulu at Best Buy for $7.00. Sure there are NO extras and there are only four chapter headings, but for the price, hell yeah.

I buy from J&R mostly. Circuit City sometimes. Bestbuy.com. But when I see a bargain...of course I saw Ronin for $10 at Virgin two days lately. Hate that.

Just found NEAR DARK (the last copy) at the same street-date pummeling Best Buy near me, $21.99. Same price as the SLEEPAWAY CAMP set I bought for Splat on Saturday.

I really can't stand Best Buy, but these were good deals...
21.99?

I got gipped...
How'd you fuckers get Near Dark already?

Some more weird purchasing:

8/19:

Tart
Tape
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Chopper
Mumford
Life as a House
October Sky
Four Rooms

No case, just disc, $5 a piece.
Best Buy breaks streetdates a lot. Check around.

That's a good fucking deal, Kirby. Where the hell do you find that stuff? Big city life must rock.

Have you seen Tape yet? I love that flick, Hawke owns it.
There's this pen/stationary store and I walk by and it just had a sign that said $5 DVDs. Mob scene in there. Don't know where they came from. But they had a ton of Tenenbaums, Donnie Darko, Wonder Boys, all sorts of shit.

I haven't seen Tape yet. But yeah, have a feeling I'll love it. My kind of flick. Never saw Tart either. Straight to video rich kid prep school chick flick that I read about a ways back. Bijou Phillips, D.Swain, Renfro, good cast, but I guess it sucks. We'll see.
Crazy thing about the city though: No Best Buy.
