Film always prevails over the prententious medium of music and the inferior television. But there are few gems that I would like to see given the full DVD treatment:
The Simpsons: Eventually, we need ALL of the episodes (including the Ullman show stuff plus some nice extras) on DVD. I imagine we'll have to wait for DVD-18, and even then we are talking about multiple boxed sets. But I'm ready!
Married With Children: No offense to "The Simpsons", which I love, but MWC was the show that built the FOX network. They abruptly cancelled the show at the end of its 11th season. To be fair, it had run out of steam by then, but it was cancelled unceremoniously as if it were a complete flop. They at least owe it to the legacy of the show (not to mention us fans) to present most (if not ALL) of the episodes in some nice DVD boxed sets. Throw in some cool extras, like a featurette with current cast and crew interviews, and I'll be all over this one like Al at the nudie bar!
The X-Files: The upcoming Season 1 DVD boxed set is a great start. Keep 'em coming!
Batman: The Animated Series: The recent releases of "Mask of The Phantasm" and "Batman Beyond" were a nice start, and one has to hope that WB released the BB DVD as a tester. I don't care how well the current ones sell, these amazing cartoons ALL deserve the DVD treatment!
Superman: The Animated Series: Ditto from what I said above. First, they should release the "movie", "Last Son of Krypton". Then, if they still doubt Supes' potential they can release a "World's Finest" DVD featuring the episodes with Batman and other Justice League members. No matter how you slice it, ALL of the Supes episodes need to make it to DVD as well... and they would make a glorious addition to my DVD collection right next to the Fleischer versions.
Freakazoid!: They'll release "Animaniacs" and "Pinky on The Brain" first, if at all. But so many people missed out on the genius of "Freakazoid".. and a DVD release including all of the episodes and the non-aired "lost episodes" would be a treat for the world.
Buck Rogers: This would mostly be to satisfy that 9 year old kid in me who used to watch this show everyday after scool. Kind of a guilty pleasure, but there weren't too many episodes so it might take only 1 boxed set.
Battlestar Galactica: Read Buck Rogers above. Ditto that.
The Tex Avery Collection: They put out a nice laserdisc boxed collection of Avery's cartoons about 6 years ago. Now is the time to transfer these to DVD! The funniest cartoons ever made, IMHO.
Hanna Barbera Classics: The upcoming Scooby Doo DVD is a great sign. Here's to hoping that Space Ghost, Super Friends, Birdman, Herculoids, etc... are all candidates as well!
GI JOE & The Transformers: Apparently, "Transformers: The Movie" is in the works. Great! Now, Rhino needs to get off their butt$ and put out the GI Joe movie. Then, it's time to chronicle ALL of the episodes for both on DVD! "Autobots... roll out! Yo, Joe!"
