Uh... JURASSIC PARK & THE LOST WORLD are both headed to DVD as Collector's Editions on October 10th. DVD Sewer, among the first on the net to break the news, has all of the sexy details.

And Laura Dern is still ugly.

And Sam Neil is still a Pete

And those endings are still bullshit...

Hey, don't knock the JURASSIC ending. The "When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth" shot was among the coolest in film history.

Not only will I knock BOTH endings for being lame, incoherent, and badly written and directed, I'll go so far as to say that I'll dig Jurassic Park 3 better cause at least Spielberg ain't behind the camera anymore.

People who should have lived died, and people who would have been breakfast lived to see another day. And that's just in the first one. The second one had the audacity to suggest that the United States government would help transport deadly dinos back to the island so they could live a peaceful life. Never mind all the Pteradons flying around. Best part of that flick was when Pete Posselwaite left the movie at the 3/4 mark thus proving he was the smartest person in the cast.

Both flicks are cool for the visual effects and a handful of scenes all of which involve the Raptors. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it...

Hmmm.....

Spielberg's "directing abilities" have been on the wane since 1985 when he overlooked at the Oscars with The Color Purple and thus started his quest for the gold. Any popcorn flicks made since then including Last Crusade and the Jurassic Parks have been majorly lacking despite their box office.

The only movies he seems to fully concern himself with are the ones that "mean something" like Schindler's List or Private Ryan. Hell, didn't he even rush thru production on both Jurassic's and dump them in Lucas' hands for post production so he could zip off to do both Schindler's and Amistad?

Yes, he's a gread director thanks mostly to his past achievements and a handful of scenes from his latter films. But there's no way that The Lost World is up there with Jaws.

Hell, it ain't even on the same page as 1941...

Hey... I agree that THE LOST WORLD is piss-poor when graded with those other films. And JURASSIC doesn't touch JAWS either. But I still find values about each of the films to warrant fun repeat viewings.

However... I don't think at all that his abilities are on the decline. In fact, 3 of his last 5 films are arguably among his very best. Only JAWS, RAIDERS, CETK, and (maybe) ET are on par with SCHINDLER'S, AMISTAD, and PRIVATE RYAN. How can he be at a "decline"?

If you ask me, he's at his peak. The problem is that he seems to decide for himself whether or not he's going to put his heart and soul into a film. To look at LOST WORLD and AMISTAD and know that the same man made both films in an 8 month span is mind-boggling. I agree with you 100% there.

The Color Purple was one of the worst non sci-fi movies I've ever seen aside from 8mm.

What a crappy adaption. Some books should not be movies.
