DVD player shoppin

i was thinking about getting one o them DVD players but according to a friend who has a good one, there's really nothing better about them except the mood of getting around the movie. (cutting to scenes etc.)

what's the deal? is it really worth it now? can some players play different regions or is each player stuck playing 1 type?

is there a difference between getting a stationary one or one of those travel ones for airplanes besides cost?

uh... yeah. any answers please?

there is no difference between portable and the settop players

Oh, yes there is, Starfire!
I flew from Denver to Seattle last month. Took my settop player along. The extension cord cost me $3,500!

blofeld, you ahould have purchased a Canon XL1 for god's sakes!

so... "hacked", eh? yeah i'm pretty sure that's illegal. LOL. sweet. but what can the "authorities" do? heh heh.

the good thing about "settop" players, as you call them, is they come with their own monitor for viewing elsewhere, right? what's a decent price you'd pay for a VCR-like one or a settop one? how much does a battery cost for the latter?
sorry about all the questioning. thanks for the info so far.

Chipping your DVD player (sorry to get all techno speak on everyone) is not illegal (at least not in Europe). Many manufacturers put modes in the DVDs that make them multiregional automatically.

What is illegal is selling imported DVDs on in your own country, or importing movies illegal on your home soil (so that 'Greased Bondage babes from Planet Farmyard IV' DVD will just have to wait...)
