DVD *PLAYER* Suggestions?

I'm buying a DVD player in August.
Any suggestions? I have a Dolby-based surround sound system
(one of the Pioneer Virtual Surrounds that has a subwoofer &
one fan speaker...and uses sound compression to phenomenal
effect for simulating 5 speakers. Not as good as the real
thing, but it was also only 200 bucks. I'll buy a real one next year when we move into a bigger place.), and would like to be
able to record off of it, as well.

Hmmm....so, if I want a really nice car I should get a Daihatsu cause it has 4 wheels, a steering system, and a horn?

Sony. And they're best if you rip off your drug-dealing neighbors for them...

"What is that, some kind of signal? You're a damn cop, aren't you?"

"No it really does smell like fish in here..."

Ok, I've determined that "send email when someone replies to your post" is not the best option on CHUD.

The scary thing is, I've never seen the movie, but I heard Norm McDonald's voice when I read it.
It just screams Norm.

This is going to be exceedingly ironic if the newcommer to the DVD Sewer (me) becomes the expert on players. *Please* tell me someone here is just being quiet, rather than nobody knowing anything about the players themselves.
Here's one that should be easy, considering how much it's stressed: Anamorphic is far superior to straight transfer. I understand this. What I've never seen is...why? What makes the difference? I'm not disputing the fact, I just don't know what anamorphic transfer DOES. The only definition I can come up with from the name doesn't make sense.
And you don't have to use small words on this one. I have a film degree, and everything.

You mean this isn't the DVD Sewer Forum? It's called the DVD Sewer. We're about to get sued, aren't we?

Less than 400 bucks, preferably less than 350. I do have a Dolby Digital; I heard a salesman at Best Buy (not the best source) tell someone else this weekend that you don't want a Virtual suround chip in your sound system AND the DVD player, that you have to turn one of them "off." I haven't found any info like that in the FAQ yet.

My suggestion for a player: Toshiba 2200. Great system. Great remote. Very polite, to boot.
Great price, at Sam's (2 1/2 Franklins)

No, I mean I already bought it. ;} I went to that other DVD sewer site, saw all the reccomendations for the older Toshiba model, checked around, saw how good the rep was, went to Best Buy & got ignored by salesmen, played with the remote, went to Sams & bought it.
