Movies that need better DVD releases.

Hunt for Red October- I want a fully loaded 2-disk version STAT!

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves- I know its coming out sometime in the future but I'm really looking forward to it.

The Man Who Would be King- cause the current version is a flipper and I would love to hear a commentary with Connary and Caine. And I'm sure there must be some cool behind the scenes stuff.

Batman (Timmy's version)
Office Space
Apocalypse Now (with both versions)
Crimson Tide
Judge Dredd (with the rumored director's cut)
Alien 3 (with a David Fincher commentary where he just says, "Fuck" continuously throughout the whole movie)
A Simple Plan
Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead

And all Spielberg, Scorsese, Mamet, and Lynch movies need commentaries, STAT! While you’re at it, bring Kubrick and David Lean back from the dead and make them record some too, because that's probably just as possible.

Heat(the Bobby D one)it has no commentary.

Like Cheese Biscuits said Apocalypse Now also with alt. ending credits. The one where you see the compound destroyed.

I could be wrong about all this, so if I am, PLEASE correct me.

Coppola never really intended for that to be in the movie. They were going to destroy the compound anyway, so someone suggested that they use the leftover explosives to blow it the hell up. They decided to get it on film (because you just never know when you need to show something blowing up), but Coppola knew then that he wasn't going to use it in the film. One version of the film was cut with the explosions during the credits, but Coppola didn't care for it or the credits, so both were cut. I doubt he will ever add it back into the movie in any form. But, in case you don’t know, the explosion is on the original Apocalypse Now DVD as a special feature. What I call for is a 2 Disc DVD that combines the old Apocalypse Now DVD and the REDUX DVD, along with commentaries and other junk, of course.

And a special edition Heat DVD would be the greatest thing since edible panties. In fact, all of Mann’s films (including THE KEEP), need spiffy new editions with commentary. That includes a redo of the nice Manhunter DVD.

GOODFELLAS!

The Night Of The Hunter
The Commitments
Batman
Batman Returns
The Deer Hunter
Apocalypse Now

Rumours are Fox is giving it a Five Star Edition later this year.

The Howling
The Frighteners
A Simple Plan
The Gift
Darkman
(see a theme?)

Rumors have been flying lately that there will be a new Apocalypse Now DVD later this year in region 2 (possibly Germany only, sigh), which will feature the excellent Hearts of Darkness documentary. that would be very cool.

other than that, the movie I'd be most happy getting a special edition treatment, especially since it isn't out on DVD yet, has to be David Mamet's excellent Homicide. fantastic flick, can't understand why it still isn't available on disc. Mamet commentary, screenplay, cool docu with the main players etc.... hell yeah!

I second GoodFellas and Office Space, and add The Big Lebowski.

Wasn't there a rumor about a Goodfellas special edition a while back?

Zulu needs a proper release. I've seen a version for about 5 bucks that looks so fucking shody it makes me sick.
I'll even go one better on Apocalypse Now. They should have a 3-disc set: The theatrical cut, the extended cut and Heart of Darkness, the documentary on the making of the film. THIS would be the ultimate Apocalypse Now edition.

yes The Frighteners needs a SE DVD now!! That movie was kicken!
I saw on some DVD site that Peter Jackson said they are taking the Criterion(?) LaserDisc (that includes like a 2-hour making-of documentary) and putting it on DVD and releasing it sometime at the end of the year, around when they do LOTR: FOTR on DVD.
That was an April Fools joke, if I remember correctly. We talked about it in a thread a while back.
It's a four hour documentary, and it was a Universal Signature Edition laserdisc release - one of the very last.

It's impossible to find and the copies that exist sell on the Bay for around $300.00.

The OneRing.pulled a dicksuck April Fool's pile (which ensures I'll never visit the site again (don't fuck with the hopes of someone who wants something that has been long-rumored by using your respected site to create "news" that is bullshit).

Once again, a director's cut of the film exists. The documentary exists. This is not bullshit. Nor is it bullshit that Aniversal has said they were going to dump the whole shebang to DVD.

What is bullshit is the OneDong's story about an actual street date for the title.

Need a Special Edition of Grosse Pointe Blank.

Also THEY FUCKING LIVE.

Also Escape From Mew York AND LA.

Also Darkman.

Bottle Rocket - I'd really like to see the short that paved the way for the movie.

The Fisher King

Miller's Crossing, Raising Arizona, Fargo - any of the bare-bones Coen Bros. stuff.

Eye of God - not even on DVD.

Of course, I'd scrap my wishes for all of the above just to get that Frighteners special edition DVD.

There needs to be a 2 disc Hunt for Red October.

lots of good flicks mentioned by all so far...

Three movies I'd love to get better treatment soon are:

Falling Down. Commentary would be nice, behind the scenes features stuff, and a decent 5.1 dolby/dts mix (to replace the flat sounding 2.0 mix)

Sleepers. Nobody should ever have to flip a dvd over if they don't have to. The widescreen anamorphic transfer that already exists is fine for me, as is the dolby 5.1 mix. It wouldn't hurt to have an ensemble commentary by all the primary actors.

Dazed and Confused. This sunday morning hangover movie deserves much more. Sooner or later I'll have to replace the vhs copy due to wear and tear...I hope a new edition comes out with an Anamorphic transfer and 5.1 dolby/dts surround sound mix. Especially considering the soundtrack is nice. Linklater and cast commentary would be icing on the cake.

so there it is

Hopefully that BladeRunner ultimate DVD is coming soon.
The restored director's cut of "The Crow: City Of Angels". It needs to be released, but Jeff Most and the scissor-happy fiends at BV won't let it happen. If it ever sees the light of day, then maybe the film would get some respect.

I most certainly agree with having an official Ridley release of a “Blade Runner” Special Edition loaded with both cuts, a Scott commentary and maybe a gag reel with ol’ Rutger Hauer getting shit faced, naked and threatening Scott with violence. Perchance this could also be a first look at some of the footage mentioned in Paul M. Sammons’ “Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner” book and maybe even snagging a glance at this third version of the film that like “Redux” was reported to not exist.

Speaking of “Redux”, I too would like to see “Apocalypse” with the compound getting destroyed at the end. I saw pieces of it years ago during that “Painting With Light” documentary on Vittorio Storaro and I’ve been awaiting it’s release ever since. I would also like to echo the commentary sentiment on “Apocalypse” though I’m not sure if Francis could do a better job than his wife did on “Hearts of Darkness”. A document that truly highlights the torturous experience of making the motion picture.

Most of all I’d love to have the definitive edition of “Dawn of the Dead” and though I know that it’s coming sometime next year I have my wish list nonetheless. I would like the theatrical cut and the directors’ cut of the film and I’d like George to personally deliver it to my house with a smile and a case of Corona. Barring that, I’d like to at least have a commentary track, deleted scenes and maybe a sweet arsed collector’s case as innovative as the “Evil Dead: Book of the Dead” release.

I too would like a Fincher commentary on a directors cut of Alien 3 but maybe Criterion should handle that so David can blast the red rectum off of Fox for hosing his movie… and yes I would also like him to say “fuck” repeatedly.

Besides that I think that an UNRATED version of “Howard the Duck” would be a nice addition to the collection.

According to Ridley, Blade Runner will have:

-The Theatrical Cut
-The 1991 "Director's" Cut
-A Brand new real Director's Cut
-The original Rough Cut
-Commentary

I saw the footage of Deckard visiting Holden in the hospital on his iron lung thingie. Was a bit lame, to be honest.

The "Westerns on DVD" thread reminded me of a flick that needs to be on this list, The Wild Bunch. It desperately needs a better DVD release than that flipper that keeps punching me in the cock every time I want to enjoy this flick.

Four cuts of Blade Runner? Suddenly, I'm not happy this got pushed back 'til next year...

My list:

Darkman: Somebody at Universal needs to license this one out to Anchor Bay.
Flash Gordon: Likewise.
Buck Rogers: Why? 'Cause I like my cheesy sci-fi.
All four Batman flicks: what the hell, just do the whole series right, then burn the remaining prints of Batman & Robin...
Apocalpse Now
The Untouchables
The Back to the Future series (not long, now...)
The hell with Stanley Kubrick's will - I want to see a Clockwork Orange SE with a Malcolm McDowell commentary, or something substantial.
Speaking of McDowell, I'd like to see somebody release If... and O Lucky Man! on DVD.

I just bought this tonight, and got kinda miffed at this.

the SE dvd of Stargate

They should redo this to a decent set, and make it at least ANAMORPHIC! It's irritating having to change the widescreen settings on the TV because the suits are too cheap.

"The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, anyone?"

YES.

Also, Dead Again. And a host of others, really.

SJR just reminded me of this: I want The Incredible Shrinking Man and Tarantula on DVD, dammit.
