Just rented this DVD. I have high hopes for it after seeing a documentary on Italian films by Scorcese. His narration got my ass off the couch and out to Hastings.

You should enjoy it, it is a treat to watch.

I rewatched 'La Dolce vita' just last night - Fellini's from 1960. Another great one if you get the chance, although I had to get a VHS copy as I don't think there is a DVD lurking around R1.

La Dolce Vita has yet to be released on DVD, I think last I heard it's in Artisan's hands, but that can't be right ebcause it'd already be out by now if that's the case. There's an R2 in England which isn't that good, but like the farmer said to the pig "That'll do."

La Dolce Vita is one of my favorite films ever, and easily my favorite Felini. 8 1/2 I've never loved, but there are some undeniably brilliant moments in the film, especially it's opening. But one must wade through layers of narcisicism throughout that can be (or was for me) off putting.

Did you ever see 1962s 'L'Eclisse' by Antonioni? Its a much more tedious film than La Dolce but I always loved how the characters in both were dealing with similar situations and coming from similar backgrounds, yet went through their life in such different ways. Some see it as an incredible waste of time, but I enjoy it.

And back on topic 8 1/2, again, is quite good.

L'Eclipse I may have seen in my college days, but I've never gotten into Antonioni. I tried to watch La'Aventura when the Crit disc came out, and couldn't get through it. But I liked La Notte, the one with Delon.

I've never thought of La Dolce Vita as boring, though it may be about a bored character. I still think it's very modern, probably my favorite film about that sort of cultural malaise.

8 1/2 was the first movie i watched this year. I've got to watch it again. I liked it a lot, but there is so much in it, I'll have to watch it with the commentary. Love the intro, first 15 min. Love.

If you're gonna buy this, you must get the 2-disc Criterion edition. The commentary is brilliant, and the interview with Fellini's mistress actually left me in tears. Extraordinary film!

Forgot about some homework I had to get done last night. Still haven't watched it. I can't wait to see the damn thing.

I think that is the only version around on DVD.

I've seen another version at Best Buy, actually. It looked like a single-disc set by Criterion, but maybe they just changed the packaging. Either way, don't let the cost change your mind. It is definitely worth it.

The single disc is a featureless rerelease by Image. It runs about $20, while the Criterion runs $40.

Cool. I was unaware of that, and yes, the Criterion version rules. Don't cheap out.

That movie rocked my world. My favorite scene had to be the reuninion of all the women in his life. I particularly loved the dismissal of the woman who was over 26. Very good flick. I will write more on it later.

Yeah, the criterion is the only way to go. Not only do you get all those extras, but the transfer is just BEAUTIFUL. First time I saw the movie was on video, and it looked like shit.

God Bless Criterion. They be expensive, but sometimes it's worth every cent.

That transfer exceeded every expectation I had for it. The menus are fantastic too.

It's been a while since I've last watched this, but it's been on my mind. I think I'll be giving it a rewatch after I get through all of the Criterion Blus I picked up this month at B&N's half off sale. This is certainly one of the more poetic films I've ever seen, though. Some moments are just breathtaking in their beauty. And I must say, this is the movie that got me on the Blu Ray bandwagon. It looks incredible in HD.
