"Rant Number 1" by DJEvil

A prelude to a rant: I'd just like to say that the following in no way represents the views and opinions of CHUD, but we all know that deep down inside they agree with them.

I woke up one night at 3 in the morning, and went straight for my laptop. What came of it were a small number of rants about music and the awkward state it's in. Why they were written, I don't know. What purpose they serve, I don't know. But I do know this: if you picture Dennis Leary saying them, they're actually kinda good.

What follows is my first rant. Enjoy.

You know what? I'm sick of people saying rock is dead. Know why? Cause it ain't. That's right. It ain't. Lenny Kravitz, STP, that ain't techno, baby. That's rock. Korn, Limp Bizkit, call it metal or pop-rock all you like, it doesn't change a thing. Rock isn't dead; you just aren't listening. You turn on the radio, Sugar Ray comes on, not the best example, they're a little light nowdays, but when they DO come on, WHAT do you think to yourself? Oh, Sugar Ray, nice POP band. Whatever. Red Hot Chili Peppers? What, you mean this entire time they were a symphonic group? Now, It's safe to say disco's dead. It had a life-span of about ten years, MAYBE. Rock has been around over 50 years. It ain't gonna go away just because U2 puts out a new album with loops and samples. (WHINY) "U2 sold out, man. They've lost their edge." Give 'em points for creativity, people. Classical music. You don't see people running around screaming, "Classical is dead!" (Then again, classical means "really old") Bottom line is, cut out the pop and hip-hop, and you have good old-fashioned American rock 'n' roll...sort of.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

The last great "rock" album was WISEBLOOD by Corrosion of Conformity. It featured the 4 VITAL things in rock music.

1. A group of people playing INSTRUMENTS. No turntables, and no dubs.

2. Guitar solos. Vistuosity. Rare.

3. Gutteral, but powerful vocals and a guy pouring it out.

4. Not a single nod to the hideous 90's music scene.

Rock isn't dead, but it's in I.C.U.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that digs them.

Hey, an open mind is a happy mind.

...No, wait. That's "An open mind is
perfectly succeptible to have someone poke your brain in different places, making your face do funny things." That's it.

Fairy music? It's your thing. Do what ya wanna do, Thom.
