Hey, does anyone on the board have one first of all.

Secondly is it any good?

I want to get one really bad, but then again with PS2 coming out later this year, I don't know.

A couple of my friends here at work have them, and I only hear good things about them. I want one, but I already spend way too much money on comics and DVDs. I don't need another addiction.

As of now, the Dreamcast is hurting in the quality games section. It's primarily still known as a sports console (NHL 2K, NBA 2K, NFoughtL 2K, with more sports sims on the way. I would wait for the PlayStation 2, which will launch here around Aug/Sept time and will be a DVD player, along with being backwards compatable for the old PS games.

Until Sega gets their act together, I wouldn't waste my money on it. Save up for PS2.

The DREAMCAST stinks. I have a friend who owns both the Japanese and US models, and between the two, I've seen two or three decent games.

Also, SEGA has a nasty habit of bailing on their hardware when it's defeated in the marketplace.

Mark my words-In September, PSX2 debuts. By X-Mas, it will dominate the market. By February 2001, the Dreamcast will be a very heavy, water-cooled paperweight.

hi,

one of my roommates has a dreamcast and imho, it's not worth getting... yet. the two games he has are sonic adventure (not so great a game, despite being the "flagship" title for sega's new system launch) and namco's soulcalibur (the best fighting game EVER, bar none). soulcalibur kicks all kinds of petard and asks for more. it must be worshipped as the single greatest platform fighter (beating my previous favorite, tekken 3 on playstation), without question.

but other than that game, the library of extant games are mainly in the vein of sports or action titles with spiffy graphics. there are some rpgs coming out, but i'm holding out personally for the playstation 2. if you've got the dough to blow, go get a dreamcast and soulcalibur, however. it's cheaper than owning the arcade version and the sega version actually has more moves, characters, better graphics quality (!!!) and more play modes.

caveat emptor.

/willko.
