Help Me Pinpoint the Moment Billy Joel Became Worthless - Page 2

Fair enough Raspberry. But you can't hold that against him.

I think Billy Joel is a superb pop craftsman that was just perfect for the baby boomer generation, his songs certainly reflect that. Storm Front was the first Billy Joel album I ever bought, We Didn't Start the Fire is firmly burned into my brain, I've memorized the lyrics.
I think Joel is constantly at war with himself over which he wants more, success or critical respect.

...and run!

I like Joel's output from Turnstiles to An Innocent Man. I don't consider the rest worthless, just not my cup-o-tea.

Yeah, some horrible shit has been done in the name of "Piano Man," but I'm not going to hold that against the song.

I'd probably have to go with Goodnight Saigon, And So It Goes, Miami 2017 and Captain Jack as my favorites. He's no Bruce, but I feel his songs right in my heart muscle.

Goodnight Saigon is pretty underrated. The lyrics are very moving. And the song has just the right level of bombast without getting too schmaltzy.

I actually really liked Storm Front when it first came out, especially the song "I Go To Extremes." As long you own a Greatest Hits record from his early years, your BJ collection is complete. The Stranger is ridiculously good, though.
So you tuned out at his last album?
