Hell yeah, Pearl Jam gets a mention

Pearl Jam is the best band ever, glad to see them be mentioned in the Anakain article, as well as TEN, one fo the greatest albums of all time. Anyone else here a PJ fan?

Pearl Jam are the best.

Ten was their definitive album, after that, IMO they started regressing.
Not much of a regression - Vs. was at worst solid, Binaural admittedly doesn't have much going for it - better than most of the shit out there, but it just does not grab me, Riot Act is right in Vs. territory, very good but not spectacular, leading to what I consider to be PJ's most shining moment - Yield. Man, I love that album. Some of the tunes on there are truly transcendent.
No Code was the height of their creativity, in my opinion.
I'm of the opinion that Ten is their worst album. My favorite switches between No Code and Yield, although VS. is an excellent second album (I think it drags a bit in the middle though, and I can't stand Daughter or Elderly Woman). I really enjoy Binaural, but Riot Act suprised me quite a bit. While it is an extension of Binaural, it has an emotional depth (especially the second half) that I really wasn't expecting. As a result, I listen to it quite a bit more than Binaural.

I just realized that I sound like Patrick Bateman.

No Code has always been my favorite album of theirs. At least it's the most unique and varied. Yield is also fantastic. Ten is an important record and a very good one, but I think they improved, or at least grew, with each album.
Yield's my favorite, followed closely by Vs.

Lots of cool pj info

I can't agree or disagree with that - I sort of fell out of love with PJ after Vitalogy and only picked up Yield, Binaural, and Riot Act recently - No Code is on the to-do list.

Love, love, LOVE Pearl Jam.

Unlike pretty much everyone else is the world, it seems, Vitalogy is my favorite of all7 studio albums, but my all-time favorite songs are Breath and State Of Love And Trust.
I never liked Ten, consider it one of the worst albums I own. All the songs sound too alike to me. I wonder how much better and more compact it would be if I could just cut out all of Vedder's endless "yeah"s and "uh-huh"s...
The first half of Vitalogy is amazing. I think it seriously loses steam after Courdoury though, which is a shame. I love the sound on that album too, and it deserves recognition for being the first major step forward for them. Vs. is great and I think it's a really solid album, but in some ways it's really just 10 part 2.

I couldn't stand Riot Act.....too political

My favorite band in the universe... only Radiohead comes kinda close.

TEN: The album that blew me away. I don't listen to it much now, but every time I see them live and they break out Release, Deep, Even Flow, Jeremy, or Alive, it's like watching Led Zep play Stairway.

VS: I used to have this as the best ever. Love the stuff never played on the radio. Indifference is my all time fave, and W.M.A needs some love, too.

Vitalogy: The band gets more experimental. This is when the band had a ton of issues going on, too. I think it's reflected on the album. Courderoy and Immortality make me happy.

No Code: Most underrated. Why don't people love In My Tree or Present Tense as much as I do?

Yield: My favorite album. Why don't they ever play My Way live? Love Do the Evolution, too. Friggin' love this album to no end.

Riot Act: Politics or not, it's great music. It also seemed like it was a rebirth of the band. I expect to see them for a long time. You Are, Help Me, and Love Boat Captain I particularly dig.

This band has released albums for EVERY show over the last two tours. They treat their fans with all the respect in the world. They don't give the best tickets to radio stations or ticket brokers... they give them to the fan club members. They fought Ticketmaster without help from any other band.

Plus, I don't hear many people bitch about the politics of Neil Young or Bob Dylan. Oh yeah... I forgot... in today's world, if you don't like what the American government does, you're a communist.

No thoughts on Binaural? What about Merkin Ball and the 5 Musketeers Studio Sessions? (State Of Love And Trust, Footsteps, The Doors covers, etc.)

*edited because I have an intchy mouse finger today*

Me loves.

Ten = Daughter(fave off of this one), Glorified, Dissident & EWBTCIAST

Vs = Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy (absolute faves), Black, Garden, Release.

Merkin Ball is sweet. I love both tracks off that, although I Got Shit is the better of the 2. Not that Long Road isn't amazing, I just think it came into it's own more live rather then on the album. The performance at that September 11th benefit was great. And although it's not a PJ album, Mirror Ball- the Neil Young album that Merkin Ball is the companion to, is really pretty good as well. And they are Neil's backup band, so it's kind of almost like a PJ album.

Vitology is by far my favorite PJ album, followed by Yield and Vs.

I didn't buy Riot Act, partly because I am very lethargic about music right now (I haven't even bought the new Perfect Circle yet) and partly because of the tune "Bushwacker" (which is a very hypocritical thing on my part, as I own ever RAtM album).

THe question is, is it any good? I liked Binaural to a certain degree (better than No Code), so should I buy it?

But Immortality is a forgotten classic for that very reason.

Riot Act really is about 70% Yield and 30% Binaural.

Shit... wasn't even thinking...

Binaural... my LEAST favorite album. The song Evacuation grates on me, and it's really the only PJ song I don't like. Nothing as it Seems and Of the Girl blow my freakin' mind away. Love those songs.

Merkin Ball... Long Road is peaceful and nice. I Got Id is one of their best.

I'm looking forward to the 2 disc b-side album in a few months. I'm sure I already have most of it, but I hope there will be some new stuff.

Great B-sides

Alone
Wash
Dirty Frank
Red, Black, Yellow (with Dennis Rodman)
Dead Man

Boomstick, I got to see them play No Way live in '98. One of the maybe 3 times they've played it.

What the fucking, fuck? That's one of my favorites... Awesome... so there is a chance!!! At the end of this last tour they started playing Wash, again. That's one of my favorites that I haven't seen live yet... I've seen them 8 times. I'm also holding out for W.M.A when it isn't on the back end of Daughter. I know they played it in Atlanta back in '94 or so, but that's the only time I've noticed.

Excellent news, Hester. I can count on you for keeping me up to date on all things Pearl Jam.

I do find it funny how the bands I like tend to release things on the same day and I end up not interested in buying any new releases for months in between. On the 11th, I have both Pearl Jam releases, the new Robert Bradley disc, and the Dave Matthews Band in Central Park set to look forward to.

Whoops. You're correct, Smirk. Sowwy.
Must purchase everything!!

I hope I get some of the concert footage from the shows I went to in the montages... Doubt it.
