Nickelback - The Long Road

Picked this disc up today since I was enthralled with their 'Someday' single. Consider myself completely blown away. These guys are not nu-Pearl Jam or nu-aggro-grunge or one of those subgroups. This band is straight out rock, or as close as any band's going to get to it. I realy can't see why Nickelback's getting the negative reputation it's been garnering over the past few years. The lead singer of the band, Chad Kroeger, has a total John Fogerty vibe going for him and it works in the over all scheme of things.

Oh and Micah, as you seem to be an against new bands playing in dropped tunings which forces them to play in one key, you'll be happy to know that they vary their keys and going from melodic sounding to harmonic sounding almost masterfully.

Hah...I'm honored at the mention. But you could mention that these guys have the routing numbers of billion dollar Cayman Island accounts screamed aloud at the end of every song, and I'd still probably have to weigh the risks before listening to a single note voluntarily.

They're that offensive to me.

STRAIGHT OUT ROCK? I had a comment, but I think I'll clean the vomit off of my monitor first.

O.K. That's better. Axl, I want you to puncture your own eardrums out so you can never listen to Nickleback again!

Why? They're not that great, but they're just one of many. What makes them stand out from the crowd?

I'm curious - what the hell is a Nickelback?

I think I'll make a band called Quarterside. Or maybe Dollarfront.

Jeez, any Nickelback haters out there? Well I must declare my position. Being a guitarist of 20+ yrs from a musical standpoint they're nothing new. However they can write reasonably well and with a hook, therefore increasing their popularity which is their job. I think they sound a stretch better than most shit out there calling itself rock & roll, but then again I like progressive rock, metal & hair bands...
On a personal note I chaperoned a bunch of boppers (my son included) who REALLY make these kind of bands popular to an outdoor bash this summer featuring Nickelback, Default, Tommy Lee etc. I learned whats new to these kids (what passes for rock these days wouldn't get 1/2 of these dregs signed in my day) but also got to meet Chad Kroeger. I told my charges where to hang out if they wanted a chance to see their heroes, and they spotted Chad tooling around behind the fence on a quad. They yelled at him, and lo & behold he rode over, came up to the fence to talk & sign autographs for the 8 people or so there, and stayed quite some time. Now I've met tons of rock stars in my day, and I bet most of the bands you Nickelback haters listen to would just've soon give you nail fungus as a dirty look, much less take the time to meet & talk to their fans.(And I've seen those kinds of 'stars' a hundred times before.) Chad was a class act, and that has earned my respect for him as a person & musician that day.Call me an old fart, but I'll take one Gene Simmons (or Chad Kroeger) to a hundred of most 'musicians' out there today.
PS anybody with a rock star story? Maybe we can start a new thread...

You guys are viscious! They're not THAT bad. I like some of their stuff, but, oh well.

Of course they are potheads. They're Canadian.

More than that, they're from Hanna, Alberta. I've been there. You would seek better living too if you grew up there, be it through chemistry or otherwise.

Anyway, I can understand a lack of love for the music, but the hate escapes me. It's not like they're Nirvana or something.
I'm sure that personally they're nice guys oblivious to how cliche-ridden and waterlogged their music is, but I'm sure there are nice brown recluse spiders out there, too, that don't mean to make your flesh decay painfully with a single bite, but it happens anyway...

Not Nirvana? Nirvana was a great band. I actually bought this album. I don't really know why but I figured it was only $10 so what the hell I'll give it a listen.

Can I have my $10 back? It just isn't any good. All of the negative comments made about the band here are exactely what's wrong with their music. Blah. Every song sounds the same on this one and they all sound like the ones that came before it. Not in a good way either.

If you guys want to see something funny, look around online for a video of Nickelback getting rocks thrown at them at some show in Portugal. Classic.

I'm still chuckling over this "Nirvana is a great band" business. The music is some of the worst guitar rock I've ever heard, and Cobain had a voice like fingernails on a blackboard. Unless he was moaning and mumbling. I can't figure out why they caught on. Wretched stuff.

They make Nickelback sound like Paco de Lucia in comparison.

Am I in the mirror universe?

Do you see a goatee on this face?

You may be wearing a sash under your shirt. Where's your dagger? What'll it take for you to retract this statement? Credits? A Command of your own? I can get that, too.

Power, Seabass?!.....I can get that for youuuuuuuu....
Nana Visitor in black leather might do it. If she brings a friend.

Doesn't matter which series it takes place in...anything with Star Trek and "the mirror universe" is just goofy beyond belief.

It also gave us a shirtless George Takei. THE HORROR.

That reminds me. I once bought this really stale Chic-o-Stick. I want my nickel back.
