"Want One" by Rufus Wainwright

I haven't seen too much talk about Rufus here, but his new album "Want One" just came out. I am going to pick it up after work today, but I was wondering if anyone had heard it yet. Thoughts? Opinions? Grievances?

If you like Poses, you'll like this, too. I've only heard it once all the way through, but it sounds fucking great.

It's an even bigger production than the last album, but the melodies aren't squashed by the arrangements (lots of strings, lots of horns). I'll probably have more to say after listening to it a few more times, but it's my girlfriend's copy - she's in love with it and loathe to part with it. So, if anything, she'd recommend it thoroughly.

I second that recommendation. I'd be wearing it out right now, but I'm also enthralled with the similar new records from Belle and Sebastian and The High Llamas. Orchestral pop is a fave genre of mine.

But back to Rufus...yes, this latest album is rock solid. His grandest yet.

Well, I was a couple of days late but I did finally pick it up. After a few listens from start to finish I have to agree with you guys. I'm a long time Rufus fan but this is his best album yet. It is amazing the leaps he has taken with his music from one album to the next, maybe not lyrically, but in the depth of the music and instrumentation itself. Great stuff.
